District Taco is a fast-casual Mexican restaurant chain with 17 locations in the Mid-Atlantic region. District Taco offers a customizable menu of tacos, burritos, and more featuring Yucatán flavors. It was founded in 2009 as a food truck in Rosslyn, Virginia, and opened its first traditional location in 2010 in Arlington. Since then, the company has opened many more locations serving the Midatlanic region of the US.
History
[edit]District Taco was founded in 2009 as a food truck in Rosslyn by Osiris Hoil and Marc Wallace. At the time, Hoil had just been laid off from his construction job during the Great Recession. His neighbor, Wallace, encouraged Hoil to go into business, selling tacos using his mother’s recipes. Together Hoil and Wallace would co-found District Taco. In November 2010, they opened their first restaurant in North Arlington. Hoil and Wallace saw large amounts of success leading them to open more restaurants throughout the DMV area and beyond. District Taco currently operates 17 restaurants including four franchised locations. They have also expanded their markets to New Jersey and southern Virginia.
Food
[edit]District Taco serves Yucatán-style food using Hoil’s family recipes and emphasizing flavors from his home state of Yucatán, Mexico. District Taco offers a variety of items on their customizable menu including tacos, burritos, bowls, and more. They make an effort to utilize fresh ingredients, something Hoil said his mother always stressed when he was a child. In addition to using fresh ingredients, District Taco keeps the authenticity by preparing recipes in-house using traditional methods.
