"Faceshopping" is a song recorded by the UK-based recording artist and producer Sophie featuring vocals by Cecile Believe.[1] The song was the third and final single released ahead of Sophie's full-length debut album, Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides.[2][3][4] It was considered one of the best songs of the year by Mixmag[5] and The Line of Best Fit.[6]

Background and release

[edit]

In October 2017, Sophie released the single "It's Okay to Cry."[7] The song and accompanying music video marked the first instance Sophie's face and vocals appeared in the artist's own work. A second single, "Ponyboy," was released later in 2017.[8]

"Faceshopping" was released on 16 February 2018.[8] Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides was announced on 5 June and released ten days later.[2]

Music video

[edit]

The music video for "Faceshopping," directed by Sophie and Aaron Chan, was released on 4 April 2018.[9][10] The video features Sophie's face distorted as the song's lyrics and images of high-end beauty products and other commercial goods flash across the screen.[11][12]
