Image Tagging Image:Latifa.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Latifa.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 04:14, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:LatifaElaToghatAlAlaamClip.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 04:46, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:LatifaAndCelineDionWMA2004.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Article translation

[edit]

Bashari, I'm appreciative that you're translating articles into Arabic, but they shouldn't be added here on the English Wikipedia. Take a shot at the Arabic one; I believe it's at http://ar.wikipedia.org , but you may need to double check that at http://www.wikipedia.org . Foreign language articles are hosted on their corresponding encyclopedia. For now, I've moved the page to your userspace at User:Bashari/Paint Shop Pro, so your work won't be lost. Thanks for your translation work; let me know if you have any questions. Tijuana BrassE@ 06:45, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bashari, thanks for the well wishes and note. The most help I can give you for the copyright question is to direct you to Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ, copyright questions can be quite complicated and I'm still learning the ins and outs of the policy myself. If your question isn't resolved in the FAQ, drop me another line and we'll figure out who to ask for more details. Again, I wanted to thank you for doing some Arabic translation, as there's a great need for it. Let me know any time you need help. Ah, and because you haven't ever received a proper welcome to Wikipedia, the following message will do it — it the impersonal, standard note I use on all pages, but you may find the links useful. Have a good one. Tijuana BrassE@ 07:03, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

Hello, Bashari, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Aboul-Qacem Echebbi

[edit]

Hi, This seems to be the commonest transliteration of his name. Wouldn't it be best to use it everywhere in Wikipedia? The version Abu Al Qasim Al Shabi gets some Google hits, but Abo Al Qassim Al Shabbi none at all (except where you've added it to articles). Also it might be a good idea to add the original Arabic in brackets after any use of the name. 11:50, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, It's doesn't really matter because Arab name could be written in many ways using English scripts. Many type my name "Bashar" this way but it's pronounced "Bashshar" with double "SH". I will write his name in Arabic script too ;)

Thekra

[edit]

Hi, Bashari. If you wanted to rename an article, don't create a new page. It is considred vandalism. This destroys the edit history. Instead, use the move button at the top of the article.

  • Also, the Image:Thekra2003.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you indicated that only non-commercial or educational use of the file is allowed. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with this restriction on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want it to be kept on Wikipedia, remove this message and replace this with {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want it to be used on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may replace this message with one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. --Meno25 02:39, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for edit summary

[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. --Meno25 02:44, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Bashari. The external links in Asalah Nasri should be deleted. Since you seem to be an inexperienced user (you have made less than 300 edits), I will try to use simple language in explaining why. Linking to sites such as: Flickr and Blogger should be avoided. The reason for this is that anyone can write anything in these sites and then use it as a link on an article in Wikipedia. However, note that Wikipedia does not have a consistent policy. If you want more information, please read Wikipedia:External links.

I, also, noticed your contributions related to the articles: Latifa and Thekra. Good work. --Meno25 08:25, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images, an issue!

[edit]

Hi Bashari. I noticed you have many image uploads. I think you are tagging them under wrong licenses, and not mentioning any sources. You cannot just tag an image with the GFDL license, when it is actually a copyright promotional photo. I hope you go through all your images and revise their licenses and provide sources where needed. Thank you. ← ANAS Talk? 00:57, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. Samahni idha la aqdir 'an it-tashrih bi'l-'arabi. I'm having trouble with another editor about the wording on an old coin with an Arabic inscription. He insists that the Swedish translation of the coin is correct, but I do not see those words on the coin at all. Part of the problem is that the picture is blurry. If you would be willing to help me get a correct, complete transcription of the coin, I can send it to the museum that has it and maybe clear up the problem that way. If you can do this, please let me know, and I will send you the URL. Shukran jazilan. Cbdorsett 10:20, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shukran marra thaniya. There are actually two coins. For one coin, there is one picture of the front and one of the back, and for the other coin, there are two of the front and one of the back. Here are the URLs:

Coin #15

Coin #14 - low resolution

Coin #14 - left image high resolution

These images are all linked from the page [1], which is written in Swedish. I will try to get someone to translate the Swedish, but I think it is not helpful at this point. It would be better if you transcribe and translate from your own eyes first, because I think the Swedish may be incorrect. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. Thank you for your help. Did you see the phrase 'ard al-khazar' (أرض الخزر) on any of the coins? Cbdorsett 04:17, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Latifa.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Latifa.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 02:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

Hi Bashar, how's it going. Yes, I did tag it for cleanup. The article is in poor shape and needs to be modified in compliance with WP:MOS and WP:AMOS. It also needs copyediting as it contains many typographical and grammatical errors. Regards, Anas talk? 12:31, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In order to keep these files, you should release them under a free license. The best free license to choose, in my opinion, is the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike License v. 2.5. To use this license, just tag your article with {{Cc-by-sa-2.5|Attribution}} and replace Attribution with the website/person you wish to be attributed to when reused elsewhere. This license allows others to use the image for free anywhere as long as they attribute it to you or your website. I would also suggest that you indicate in every image's summary that Latifa herself owns the copyrights and has personally allowed you to use them under the free license in Wikipedia. If there are any album pictures, you can release them under fair use licenses, because I think that she doesn't own the copyrights, but the label companies like Rotana do; such images should be released under a fair use license, in this case a {{Non-free album cover}} tag should suffice in addition to your source, of course. Your images should be very safe now. Good luck! —Anas talk? 08:47, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Desert Roses 2.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Desert Roses and Arabian Rythms II.jpg. The copy called Image:Desert Roses and Arabian Rythms II.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and remember exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. Fair Use images

[edit]

Under Wikipedia policies on fair use images, they are not allowed in lists/galleries (like discographies) or on userpages. I have therefore removed the album covers from your user page, Latifa, and Latifa discography. Because fair use image storage is only allowed if they are used in an article, I have marked all of them as {{Orphaned fairuse not replaced}}. If they are not used appropriately within 7 days, they may be deleted. If you create articles for them, or add them to existing articles, each one will need to include a fair use rationale. Please let me know if you have any questions about these policies. ~ BigrTex 17:22, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While the rules have been in place for a long time, enforcement of the rules is still catching up. I will review Tarkan discography this afternoon.
When you get around to creating the articles on the individual Latifa albums, you can upload the images again. If you need to, you could also ask whichever admin deletes the images to undelete them for use in the articles. I would also be willing to undelete the images as you have the article(s) ready. ~ BigrTex 19:00, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Wa Akheeran (International).jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wa Akheeran (International).jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. File permission problem with File:Latifa.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Latifa.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
