Re: Fair use "overuse" in Little People[edit]

Hi, Damian! My reason for removing those images wasn't because of their size, but because it was a non-free gallery, which is strongly frowned upon. I won't be taking any further action though. :-) east.718 at 05:47, February 27, 2008

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Zoop logo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Zoop logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The problem was that {{future video game}} and {{future game}} were recursively transcluding each other. At the time I made the edit (2008-04-04T20:45:15), the template {{future game}} had just been moved to {{future video game ambox}}, and my edit appeared to fix things. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 17:29, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Emulator Fur[edit]

Hi. I must say I'm not really happy with your example wording of "To illustrate the appearance of this game under emulation in the context of critical commentary on the game or emulator." You see, this is still not a concrete statement about an individual image in an individual article. It's again something that people will just be copying in as boilerplate. Exactly what issue is the topic of critical commentary? We need an example of what it means to say something concrete about a particular case. Something that is so special no reader will even be tempted to just copy it over. Because that's just the point, you see? Do we have a case where this template has been used and somebody has really given a concrete description? Something on the level of concreteness of (silly invented example): "To demonstrate the special visual effect of the fireworks that are shown when a player has won, an effect that this game became famous for and which served as a model for many later ones." I'm sure you can think of a more concrete and less silly example... Fut.Perf. 18:02, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That Other Template ({{logo fur}}) has a choice of six boilerplate purposes in the Use argument. Do we have a case where {{logo fur}} has been used and somebody has really given a concrete description? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 19:07, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, OtherFURsExist is not really the best thing to argue here. I mean, what do these game screenshot images do? Is it really so difficult to pick one of them and describe in a few words what it does, I mean, real simple words and without all that "critical commentary" stuff? Or, asked differently, if some evil deletionist picked one of them and proposed it for deletion as failing NFCC8 ("doesn't make any substantial contribution to understanding the article"), what would you answer them in an IfD discussion? That answer should already be anticipated in the rationale. Fut.Perf. 19:29, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the time, an emulator-sourced screenshot is used to identify a video game or video game element in an article about said video game or video game element. For example, see the screenshots in the article Super Mario Bros. I just created {{emulator fur}} to provide reasonable defaults for emulator-sourced images. The whole "critical commentary" bit is in the other rationale templates such as {{logo fur}}; if you find it inappropriate, fork {{logo fur}} in your user space. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 00:10, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Do not want[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Do not want, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not encyclopedic

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. man with one red shoe 17:27, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with contact form on your website[edit]

I apologize that I am violating WP:NOTFORUM, but I don't know any other (reasonable) way to contact you; the contact form on your website doesn't seem to be working, and I am not sure whether "tepples at spamcop dot net" is still your preferred email address. Please feel free to archive or remove this message once you have dealt with the issue appropriately.

Anyway, the symptom is that when I press Send, the form simply goes blank instead of displaying a confirmation message. Further discussion is at uncyclopedia:User talk:Tepples#Problem with contact form on your website.

By the way, thank you for all your great work on Wikipedia, especially reverting vandalism. 131.215.159.229 (talk) 19:35, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not paying more attention here. Anyway, it seems that I need to clarify my question: Should I email you at the address I mentioned above, email you at some other address, or just try the contact form again? (Or register a Wikipedia account and use Special:Emailuser? By "reasonable" above, I meant that the issue doesn't deserve snail mail.) 131.215.159.229 (talk) 23:23, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
tepples[at]spamcop[dot]net should work, but I don't check it very often. Contradiction[edit]

Here, you've said that the article abuts wp:own. But your edit to the article contradicts the application of the rule (essay).

In wp:own, all wikipedia content (this includes templates, categories, and others, not just articles) ruled. But the only edit you've made to wp:don't revert limits it's application to only articles. So, it can't really abut wp:own, unless wp:own is changed.

Also, please read the section on the talk page I started. I say wp:brd applies, so those changes (except for you addition of the internal link (wp:brd) are not needed. (I support your inclusion of the internal link, btw.)

Pingas[edit]

Pingas was deleted several times because it was created as a redirect to Dr. Eggman (aka Ivo Robotnik), because of a silly Internet meme where Robotnik says "Snooping as usual, I see" on an episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. That's why it was salted, and even if it were re-created and locked, I think there would be a great deal of vandalism on the talk page. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 16:16, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am aware of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and YouTube Poop. (In fact, the video in which this word-trim debuted actually used "he's g[etting aw]ay" as the main gag, and "[snoo]ping as" was a side gag.) But I am also aware of the pornographic film Las Chupa Pingas, whose title uses "pingas" in the sense of the plural of the Spanish slang term. Perhaps a protected soft redirect to wikt:pinga might be warranted instead. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 16:24, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Hana Zagorová discography. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hana Zagorová discography. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Chicago replacements[edit]

Chicane. Calvin was not the best match, so removing that reference was probably a good idea anyway. ⇔ ChristTrekker 17:18, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Chicane found here looks nothing like Chicago. So how do we disambiguate these? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 20:00, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Conflation of "third tier" fonts based on name is a real problem. No one's going to come out with something called "Times New Roman" that looks like anything other than Times New Roman. But something like Chicane that few have ever heard of? Another designer likes the name and makes his own, totally different, face. I don't know if there is a good solution. You could link to the one you're referring to, but that's likely a temporary measure at best, because those free font sites come and go, and often the designer doesn't host them himself. If the designer is known (e.g. Bitstream) you could use that for disambiguation, but for obscure fonts like this it can be hard to track down. I'd love to see a good (i.e. long-term stable) typography wiki that could document this sort of thing. ⇔ ChristTrekker 14:42, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have unintentionally added "ditch mitch" to the "Suggested solutions" section here (reverted here). Was this perhaps a mistake in copying and pasting? 131.215.159.169 (talk) 03:10, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I was trying to type this political epithet into my web browser's search bar to gauge opinion on the Internets against Mitch Daniels or Mitch McConnell, but the confusing focus-stealing JavaScript in Wikipedia's new Vector skin screwed me up. My bad. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 15:40, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A while back, you contributed an audio file to the missing fundamental article. There are concerns about what it's demonstrating and whether it's effective, so I moved it out of the main article and onto the discussion page, at least until we can get something put together that's easy to understand and effective for all listeners. It might be a matter of rewriting the explanation, or maybe "the illusion of rich bass" just isn't something that can be demonstrated consistently enough to be worthwhile. —mjb (talk) 23:56, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. MBisanz talk 02:01, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Traumatic incident reduction requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. David Miscarriage listed at Redirects for discussion[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on David Miscarriage, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. New Page Patrol survey[edit]

New page patrol – Survey Invitation

Hello Damian Yerrick! The WMF is currently developing new tools to make new page patrolling much easier. Whether you have patrolled many pages or only a few, we now need to know about your experience. The survey takes only 6 minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist us in analyzing the results of the survey; the WMF will not use the information to identify you.

  • If this invitation also appears on other accounts you may have, please complete the survey once only.
  • If this has been sent to you in error and you have never patrolled new pages, please ignore it.

Please click HERE to take part.
Many thanks in advance for providing this essential feedback.

You are receiving this invitation because you have patrolled new pages. For more information, please see NPP Survey

The article Hana Zagorová discography has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Artist (if notable at all) does not warrant such a list of works containing her songs

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of Hana Zagorová discography for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Hana Zagorová discography is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hana Zagorová discography (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:44, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

R from Unicode[edit]

I'd like to remind you that {{r from Unicode}} exists. Also, I'm a little bit in doubt on the usefulness of the specific redirect 🍂. How likely of a search term do you think it is? Is there some policy or guideline I should study further? (Yes, I did look over WP:Redirect.) --SoledadKabocha (talk) 16:39, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't aware of that template; thank you. Anyway, I found U+1F342 🍂 as a red link in {{Unicode chart Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs}}. The name of the code point is "FALLEN LEAF". I created this redirect on the pattern that U+2603 goes to snowman, U+1F337 🌷 goes to tulip, U+1F4A3 💣 goes to bomb, and when you type the logo of MediaWiki ([[🌻]]) using U+1F33B 🌻, you get a link to sunflower. Is there a better article about fallen leaves than Abscission, or perhaps Deciduous#Botany? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 23:07, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I know of yet. Admittedly, I'm aware that a lot of {{r from Unicode}} redirects end up going to RFD ... where most are kept (and that's the point that I failed to make clear). --SoledadKabocha (talk) 19:34, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

July 2013[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Damaged good, but we cannot accept original research. Original research also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:27, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What's the approved way to say "I intend to provide citations before the day's over"? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 23:56, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article Damaged good is not a list of products that some Wikipedia editor thinks should use a different pricing strategy. If you have an independent source, who is in a position to know, who says that the product meets the defintion of a "damaged good", then cite it. Because a company decides to charge more for electronics with more features is not enough. They might want to avoid the considerable expense of customer support for development platforms. Selling the development version to consumers at a low price and telling them development capability is unsupported leads to angry customers and damaged reputation. There are any number of other reasons for such pricing strategies.

You don't get to decide what is a damaged good. Sources tell us that. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 00:22, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

One could make the same argument about the other examples used in the article, especially the Casio, so long as the cited sources happen not to use the phrase "damaged good". --Damian Yerrick (talk) 00:30, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Damaged good. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Dennis Bratland (talk) 00:11, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember having created any Pokémon pages, and I am not an administrator. You could try posting your changes for discussion on the article's talk page and then using the {{sudo}} template once discussion has reached a consensus. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 03:38, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Categorizing redirects[edit]

Some experienced Wikipedians have lost interest in WP:Categorizing redirects, but not all — I see no consensus not to do it either. It's probably worth reading up on the redirect templates before you try this. Example --SoledadKabocha (talk) 06:29, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify, my point was that you should attempt to categorize any main-namespace redirects you create, despite the lack of a perfect consensus on the recommendation level of WP:Categorizing redirects. If the creator of a redirect doesn't categorize it, someone else (like me) eventually will, and it's best to save them the effort.
When I saw this, it took me a while to realize that you meant #Contested deletion 23. In such cases, I'd normally change the section-title part of the edit summary manually, but I'm not aware of a consensus on this either. I probably ought to search Bugzilla to find any existing ticket about this behavior. But I digress... --SoledadKabocha (talk) 16:39, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the guideline was new to me. But now that I've reread the guideline, I understand the point: it's for choosing redirects to exclude from printed copies of Wikipedia subsets. I'll try to read over the most commonly used printworthy and unprintworthy categories. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 15:11, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I guess it's also important to track merges and moves for attribution reasons. In fact, I think this MediaWiki installation is configured to add the latter automatically when a page is moved. Anyway, I'll let you decide what you feel is worth categorizing. --SoledadKabocha (talk) 17:36, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Puyo guide images[edit]

Sorry for not noticing earlier. I wasn't sure whether to post here or on the article's talk page first. --SoledadKabocha (talk) 03:58, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware. You can usually at least check the talk page to see whether I've noticed the revert on my "poor-man's watchlist" (as you called it) and started BRD. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 15:05, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Microdrives[edit]

I think your change at CompactFlash is didactic; everyone knows what a "Microdrive" is, and that two are "Microdrives." However, if you wish to restrict a trademark to the uses its owners prefer, that's fine, except that you didn't do so consistently, for instance to the title of the next section down from the one that you edited. If you insist, please start over and edit the entire page. Spike-from-NH (talk) 03:17, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done in part. I've reworded much of the article to use a generic term. But changing a heading requires a bit more consensus than changing section body text, as anchors are generated from headings. I'll wait to see if my change sticks and then use {{anchor}}. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 04:07, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's better; thanks. Indeed it's wise to wait for any cataclysm from the first round of edits before changing section headings. Spike-from-NH (talk) 20:50, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
