question

[edit]

Chesley Sullenberger was in the news, again, this week. I thought I would to go Talk:Chesley Sullenberger, and review the arguments offered by those who initially argued for redirection or deletion. I was surprised at how adamant some of you were.

Do you still think this article should be deleted or redirected? Geo Swan (talk) 15:43, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your update. Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 20:21, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing out the bad image. Since the image has been replaced, would you mind striking that the list fails 5b (assuming all else looks good). Just trying to make sure I have done what needs to be done. Thanks! --Another Believer (Talk) 17:28, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is 3,4-Dichlorobicyclo(3.2.1)oct-2-ene. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/3,4-Dichlorobicyclo(3.2.1)oct-2-ene. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I want to upload a pair of Jack Finney's original covers pictures. They belong to defunct publishing companies. Do you know if I can do it? Apologize my English. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.137.158.172 (talk) 21:21, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry I'm not sure what this is about, are you sure if it was me you meant to leave the message for? My memory isn't brilliant so it's possible I've just forgotten, sorry if that's the case. I'm not an expert on copyright, depending on their age and if a copyright notice was given it's possible the images are in the public domain. If they are not then they would have to meet all the criteria set out at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria - assuming they haven't been released under a free license. The best thing to do would be to ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions where - if you give some more details - I'm sure someone with the appropriate knowledge would be able to help. Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 18:12, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Super Obama World has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Game is non-notable. According to WP:VG/GL, "Articles on video games should give an encyclopedic overview of a game and its importance to the industry." This article does not do that.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Yekrats (talk) 16:42, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, in the current state, the article is non-notable. Clearly WP:VG/GL would dictate that the article must state why it is notable as a video game. Is it more notable than any of the other hundreds of flash games about Obama available? -- Yekrats (talk) 04:12, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry if I'm out of line with the proposal, but I think I'm proper to renominate this. See Wikipedia:Guide to deletion#If you disagree with the consensus: from "If you think that an article was wrongly kept after the AFD, you could wait to see if the article is improved to overcome your objections; if it isn't, you can renominate it for deletion. If and when you do renominate, be careful to say why you think the reasons proffered for keeping the article are poor, and why you think the article must be deleted." If I made an error of protocol, please let me know... -- Yekrats (talk) 04:21, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. I removed the prod, and put up this. I'm sorry about the inappropriate protocol. -- Yekrats (talk) 14:15, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

House (disambiguation)

[edit]

Do you think that this information :("Named structures: When the occupant of a particular house becomes famous the building may take person's name. For example, Chatham House, the current home of the United Kingdom's"..., etc.) has another place on WP? I agree it's not pure disambiguation but it is key to understanding what the word "house" is used for. --Kevlar (talkcontribs) 22:36, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ursula Vernon - Digger (Webcomic) merge

[edit]

Hi. Can I ask about your rationale for merging Ursula Vernon with Digger (webcomic), as no discussion has been made about the move on either talk page? I believe the subject of the page meets notability guidelines and if a merger is to occur between the two pages it would make more sense to merge Digger (Webcomic) into the Ursula Vernon page under a 'Significant works' section or similar... Cheers - HelioSmith (talk) 16:04, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your prompt response. I agree that many of the articles relating to webcomics need work to improve them. Another user has already reversed the merge. I think the Ursular Vernon page certainly needs more work on it, especially in making her other significant works more clear. I'll give the page a work over in the near future. Cheers - HelioSmith (talk) 16:30, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merges

[edit]

It would be advisable to discuss most of the merges before doing so. The fact that you're simultaneously strip mining any webcomic-related links into smaller single pages and petitioning for the deletion of a relevant award page and related sections... well even though I assume good faith, you're not giving off the appearance of it.

Also, you're not gaining any credibility by the fact that you're linking "merge" to "Merge (SQL)". --Human.v2.0 (talk) 17:54, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To be short: If you intend to merge an article, post something on the talk page. I have numerous articles that are on my watchlist for "maintenance purposes". Just because a page doesn't have active edits doesn't men that it doesn't have people paying attention or that the article has lost merit. If pages could be deleted based on edit frequency, a good many would be long gone. Just don't do it. And don't simultaneously be nominating pages in a specific small category and be merging articles int hat category. This is akin to editing chunks out of articles and then nominating them for deletion; it's both unfair and disingenuous.
AfD ending in delete are kinda misrepresentive when involving a small number of editors keeping tabs on the page. You can claim all the pages ending in deletion you want, but how many people where aware of the situation? Aside from the few editors with an addition to AfD, the examples you mentioned are not something where you are going to have a lot of active editation involved. This isn't a sign that they should be deleted, though, just that they would almost automatically end in deletion.
With your "merge" edit I had to go with certain assumptions, but you've proven your own though process in your response. I just don't believe that it's correct. For starters, I don't see a need. Anything involving "webcomic" already has enough editors seeking wholesale removal. You can argue against that all you want, but there are very few examples that I haven't seen pages nominated for deletion after vote and vote-some-more with well-reasoned dissent. The merges do not seem to be all in the best interest, for the least of which reason being that they do not all seem to have been merged into the "more notable" category.
In the case of the one I first noticed, involving "Errant Story", the author/artist is notable for the work, not the other way around. Also, you have two works which have conflicting notoriety.
It's late, I'm tired, and I'll respond more in the morning. The fact is that the merges do not accomplish an actual goal, and when combined with AfD activity they only really lead to the possibility of unnecessary and unwarranted deletion.
More at a more reasonable hour. Human.v2.0 (talk) 04:33, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that Human.v2.0 commented on at least a couple of your recent slew of undiscussed mergers (you commented on his talk page that it would be good to have a central forum for such discussions. There is one: WP:PM). I am concerned that a lot of content and some categorization is being discarded in some of these mergers, though I can appreciate the desire to have topics become more compact if they are not being updated and involve short articles. As you know, I have opposed some of your proposals for deletion in the past, and it frankly bothers me that someone with a history of aiming to quickly destroy content in a topic area (webcomics) without engaging formerly active editors of articles in discussion about it is being so bold in that topic area again. At least with redirects, you're right, people can see what content has not been transferred and revert the merge, unlike with a page deletion. Netmouse (talk) 17:09, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Yum! Kitchen and Bakery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

1. no indication of notability 2. advert

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
