Buck-Tick

[edit]

The band can say whatever they want, it doesn't negate reality. In the English language, dead people are written about in the past tense and can not "currently" be doing anything. Per MOS:BLPTENSE: "Biographies of living persons should generally be written in the present tense, and biographies of deceased persons in the past tense. When making the change upon the death of a subject, the entire article should be reviewed for consistency." If you wanted to re-add something to the "35th anniversary and Sakurai's death" section about how they said "BUCK-TICK will always be five", then that is acceptable. But Sakurai must remain in the "past/former" members section. Xfansd (talk) 14:24, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

wow you must've edited Jasmine You away from there too. Weiqwbo (talk) 14:28, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What you're linking and quoting doesn't say the dead can't be included in things that living people are doing. You're forcing your views on others. Weiqwbo (talk) 14:31, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you not understand the difference between present tense and past tense? It says to write articles about dead people in past tense. The word "current" is present tense, and the word "former" is past tense. By simply putting a dead person in current members, you are not following the MOS. Xfansd (talk) 15:25, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where Sakurai is mentioned in the article, the appropriate tense is always used. Regarding the list of members, he never left, he was never removed. The dead are always credited and very often still included in things they participated in while alive. "Current member" does not carry a connotation of "alive." If you're so inclined to note the fact Sakurai is dead in the members list, a cross can be added. The Latin/Christian cross character (✝) is often used on the internet to denote someone is deceased. Weiqwbo (talk) 15:51, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Where Sakurai is mentioned in the article, the appropriate tense is always used." No, that was the case until your recent edits, as I explained in my last reply. Yes, "current member" does imply the person is alive. Again, per my last reply where I explained the tense of the word "current". He left the band when he died, stop being ridiculous. Being "credited" in a work, such as an album released posthumously, is not the same as being listed as an active/current musician in an active band's infobox. And no, using "✝" is not allowed, per Template:Infobox_musical_artist#past_members, which says "with no other notation than names". Please don't make me waste more time with this discussion. If I only have the article protected again, you'll just return a couple months later making the same edits (or it can even be permanently protected). So this time I'll end up having to bring other editors into a larger discussion just for this specific issue so they can explain how ridiculous you're being, and then I'll be able to just cite/link to that discussion every time I revert you or someone else's addition of Sakurai to current members. But that takes time that I don't want to waste. Xfansd (talk) 16:34, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to waste my time with you either. "He left the band when he died." No, one action doesn't follow from the other. When someone dies, they're not automatically divorced—their spouse's status will be widowed. But I'm wasting my energy here, your preoccupation with the wrong meaning of a word can't be fixed, it seems (current is an adjective, it doesn't have a tense, if we're to be as pedantic as you seem to be demanding). I would say that some editors really should gather and discuss whether the current guides and templates are sufficient, whether they're serving a good purpose. But then ultimately they, any mystic editors from some random place, are just as much rando nobodies as you and I. So, I'll leave now and I'll just tell you that no one appreciates what you're doing. Do whatever you like, I'll make sure I never look at the article again. Weiqwbo (talk) 16:51, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
