A by-election was held on 25 August 2009 for the Penang State Legislative Assembly seat of Permatang Pasir.[1] The seat fell vacant after the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman.[2]

Mohd Salleh Man got 9,618 votes, beating Rohaizat Othman who got 5,067 votes.[3]
