The 2022–23 Philadelphia 76ers season was the 74th season for the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA).[1]

The 76ers led the NBA in both free throw percentage (83.5%) and three-point field goal percentage (38.7%) during the regular season.[2][3] Philadelphia clinched a playoff spot on March 21, when the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Brooklyn Nets.[4] On April 22, the Philadelphia 76ers swept the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs, following a 96–88 victory.[5]

They were eliminated in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the third consecutive season by the Boston Celtics after being defeated by a score of 112–88 in game 7 of the series. Following this loss, Joel Embiid was criticized heavily on social media for his 15-point performance after being awarded the MVP just a few weeks prior, as well as his comments postgame about his team when asked about he and James Harden's future.[6]

This was Doc Rivers' last season with the team as head coach; the 76ers fired him on May 16, 2023.[7]

Draft[edit]

Round Pick Player Position(s) Nationality College / Club
1 23 David Roddy Guard United States Colorado State

The 76ers entered the draft holding their first round pick.[8] They owe two second-round picks at 50th to the Minnesota Timberwolves that the Denver Nuggets previously owned and at 51st to the Golden State Warriors that the Toronto Raptors previously owned. They initially owed another second-round pick to the Miami Heat that they initially acquired from the Nuggets, but the pick was forfeited after the league found that the Heat violated tampering rules with Kyle Lowry in free agency.[9]
