Marcelle Narbonne (25 March 1898 – 1 January 2012) was, at the time of her death, the oldest living person in France and Europe.
Biography[edit]
Narbonne was born in Isserville in French Algeria.[1][2] She worked as a shorthand typist for much of her life. In 1962 she moved to mainland France when Algeria gained its independence from the French. Shortly after in 1963, Narbonne retired. Narbonne lived with her younger sister until her death at the age of 95 in 1999. From there, Narbonne moved to Capucines a retirement home in Argelès-Sur-Mer. On her 112th birthday in 2010, Narbonne was reported to be physically weak and walked short distances. She enjoyed poetry, a glass of champagne, and ate on her own. She was on no medications and spoke very little by the time of her death.[2]
Narbonne was succeeded as oldest living person in France and Europe by Marie-Thérèse Bardet.[3]
