Are bikers different from motorcyclists? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Salty Batter (talkcontribs) 22:38, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. The original reason for this template was a place to hang articles about US-style outlaw bikers and related terms. It grew a bit to encompass more of a world view (Bōsōzoku, Mat Rempit, etc.). Maybe we need two navboxes? Or a renamed navbox? Let's wait a bit to hear from some other people before deciding to overhaul. — Brianhe (talk) 18:41, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with the practice of giving 1% culture a privileged place. They are just one small part of the larger picture. The template might be organized to put that subcluture in a separate place from other subcultures. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:47, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So, just fold it into {{motorcycles}} ? Brianhe (talk) 18:26, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That template is pretty big already. I don't see a problem with having a culture navbox. We need it to include all cultures, not just the US and UK, so Bōsōzoku, Mat Rempit need a place to to go. The word "biker" is confusing, so it could be moved to "Motorcycling culture". Or just change the headers; readers don't see the template name. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 19:28, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can't think of a really good solution. Maybe leave it be for a while and see if anyone else can suggest something? If you have ideas please go ahead. I think maybe the real solution is to expand the culture-related articles to be more balanced, then the navboxes will make more sense. For example, clarifying the difference between chopper, streetfighter and cafe racer bikes, and the associated subcultures. Or deeper coverage of Iron Butt culture, Wingnut culture, etc. The ones not getting arrested for anything get way too little attention. We often delete articles about non-notable clubs, like the Harley-Davidson Riders UK, because they only get routine coverage. But when you take the coverage of all these clubs together, you can fold them into an article about the broader culture. Paul D'Orleans mentions a few times in Choppers The Real Story that the custom motorcycle scene often overlapped with the custom car scene. Maybe someone else has an idea. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 19:47, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
