Party Games[edit]

I think Crash Bash and Crash Boom Bang should get their own section as party games. You can revert this change if you want. I also seperated the Naughty Dog and Universal games. They are seperate series. Sam 23:18, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Nitro Kart[edit]

@Cat's Tuxedo: why are you moving Nitro Kart 3D and Nitro Kart 2 separate from Nitro Kart? The template doesn't imply they are ports of the game, but just part of a subseries. Your edit summary for the ever is suggesting we ignore the genre, the title, and the IP itself and that makes no sense. It's not as if the Nitro Kart sub-series is plot-driven anyways. The template has been revised (by me) to be more genre-specific with the spin-offs: Racing, Party, and Mobile (which I plan on nominating the article to be deleted/merged into List of Crash Bandicoot video games in the future anyways, so it might be renamed to "Other"). The Nitro Kart games are technically mobile games, but it makes less sense to keep them away from the other racing titles.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 21:23, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is no sub-series. In spite of the title, the mobile games don't share anything in common with that particular installment, in narrative or in presentation, and what reviews there are don't even bring up the prior game in any way. I couldn't tell you why the developers went with the title they did, but as a cursory glance at the gameplay would show, there's hardly any real connection. I have no objections to that merger proposal, so I'd be alright with moving the mobile racing games to the racing section, but they'd be better off being displayed as individual installments rather then being lumped into a non-existent "sub-series". Presentation and narrative are original research. Genre, title, and IP aren't original research.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 22:09, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It still stands that there is no publicly acknowledged connection between the mobile games and the original console title. Also, I have to call foul on the narrative matter being OR, since what narrative the two properties have is completely disconnected from each other, which is not something a proper sub-series does. Regardless of the games not being expressly plot-driven, that doesn't mean they don't have one. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 22:21, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Cat's Tuxedo and Blue Pumpkin Pie: As an uninvolved third party who (usefully, I think, in terms of my objectivity in this discussion) has also never played any of these games, I see two points of note here:

  1. According to List of Crash Bandicoot mobile games, several of the other games not listed in the "Mobile" Spin-offs section also had mobile versions, including the original Nitro Kart.
  2. According to its article, but un-like its similarly-names successors, the original Nitro Kart was a sequel to Crash Team Racing.
  3. (Also, as a very minor third point, Nitro Kart 2 is listed in its article as a sequel to Nitro Kart 3D.)

Taken together, this leads me to believe that "Mobile" may not be a particularly good differentiator for a Spin-offs category — even if it ends up being renamed to "Other". It seems to me that the Nitro Kart mobile games should be included in the "Racing" spin-offs section, because they are indeed racing games. They don't have to be part of a series with the original Nitro Kart, but nobody's disputing that they're racing games... right?

If that leaves On the Run! stranded all by its lonesome in a "Running" or "Other" spin-off category, well... sometimes that's just reality. It is (or will be) sort of a separate thing from all the other Crash games, from everything I can see. Sometimes the cheese stands alone.

Also, perhaps it's Team Racing that should become the start of a series (with the other three Racing games being subsequent installments), since the full title of Nitro-Fueled is Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled so it's really only Nitro Kart that fails to use the "Team Racing" name. And then if it makes sense, Nitro Kart 3D and Nitro Kart 2 become a second series of their own, for the mobile-only racing titles — or they don't and just stand separately, whatever best fits reality. But "Mobile" as a grouping, and separating out two of the racing games based on that distinction, feels incredibly artificial to me. Especially since several of the other games could also be included there, so it's actually not even as distinctive as it's being presented. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 06:48, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@FeRDNYC: The mobile section I'm not too concerned about. My main concern is how are we to determining that Nitro Kart/3D/2 are not in any shape related to each other? It seems like it's more original research to say they're not related than to say they are related. Nitro-Fueled is only the name of the remake of CTR which added additional content from Nitro Kart. This is why the original intention was to show in the Racing group to list it as "Nitro Kart (3D2)".Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 14:50, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Blue Pumpkin Pie: Yeah, the more I think about it the more that makes sense to me, just based on the name alone. But, like I said, maybe that's made more palatable — if we base it on the name alone — by making the Racing section be "Team Racing (Tag Team Racing · Nitro-Fueled) · Nitro Kart (3D · 2)". Which appears to broadly fit reality, as well, if you take full game titles into account.
(I even thought about suggesting just "Team Racing (Tag · Nitro-Fueled)" but that seems maybe excessive brevity for brevity's sake.)
That being said, the way you have it now seems fine as well, if Cat's Tuxedo objects to the games being combined purely based on name... and it's not as if the navbox is tight on space or anything. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 21:11, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I say keeping it as it is now is preferable. Grouping based on remasters or DLC makes more sense than trying to create a "sub-series" that isn't even acknowledged as such in the press. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 23:18, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave it alone for now just on that reasoning alone, and not the opinion that they are unrelated.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 14:15, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
