Sorry, what? Could you be more specific please? pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:01, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, right. I actually haven't updated that for ages, obviously, as I am well aware of the WelCom now...when I was primarily active on en.wp I used to alert quite a few people to the WP:AWNB. I had a Babelbox for it at one stage but I guess I removed it in the interests of succinctness. Thanks for paying attention, anyway ;) --pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:13, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dropdown menu script[edit]

For some reason, when I add that to my css, I can have no more than a few additional tabs, even if no dropdown menu tab is present. I am not sure why, something as acting as a sort of tab limit. If I remove position = relative, the other tabs show, but the menus is very wide.Voice-of-AllTalk 05:34, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA[edit]

Alphax, thank you very much for your support in my recent Request for adminship, it passed with a final tally of (65/3/3) - which I find both amazing and humbling. I wish I had time to thank everyone personally, but I'm afraid all I can offer is this token of my gratitude. I hope to live up to your expectations/hopes. If at any stage you need to contact me, for help or a request or to point out a mistake in my conduct, please make sure to tell me on my talk page. --Fir0002 08:22, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Hi Alphax, thank you for voting in my RFA which failed eventually at a result of (91/51/8). I do not plan to run for adminship until a later date. Once again, I would like to thank you for voting. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 14:44, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Group mentality[edit]

I seemed to have offended you somehow on IRC the other day (although I am still not quite sure why), but I nevertheless appologize for upsetting you in any way; I only meant our discussion to be a philosophical one on the morality of giving into group mentality, and not a personal one. Stop violating the GFDL! :O[edit]

User:Salman01 had been moving pages and I was reverting his moves. Since he had moved the page and I was using move as well back the the original source there was no GFDL violation because the history of the content remained intact. The move comment is from the MediaWiki software... not myself and I am not sure there is any other way to stop move vandalism. Did those pages have any content besides the automated creation of redirects? gren グレン 17:13, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't be condescending.... I know there is a protect button I didn't use it because it was not (I thought) a recurrent problem but a mistaken user who would stop once I explained to him. I think the problem is that I thought the only page content was the creation of redirects. I should have checked to make sure there was no content. The editor moved the pages multiple times which I hadn't realized. Next time I will look more carefully. Thank you for notifying me and for you and bookofjude fixing it. gren グレン 18:05, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I moved Sholay (film) to Sholay (2007 film) and I deleted again. This time I restored the content that had been deleted by the move. That means I didn't violate the GFDL, right? I just want to be sure. Thanks. gren グレン 12:44, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You obviously take issue with the topic of "outsourcing", especially the criticisms, but I don't think the issue is the existence of a division of labor in society but how labor is organized. Would you agree? (NewTools 16:58, 8 November 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for your input[edit]

Thank you for taking part in my RfA. The RfA was not successful, mostly because I did a pretty bad job of presenting myself. I'll run again sometime in the next few months, in the hopes that some will reconsider.

In the meantime, one of the projects I'm working on is A Wikimedia Administrator's Handbook. This is a wikibook how-to guide intended to help new administrators learn the ropes, as well as to simply "demystify" what adminship entails. If you are an administrator, please help out with writing it, particularly on the technical aspects of the tools. Both administrators and non-administrators are welcome to help link in and sort all of the various policies regarding the use of these tools on wikipedia in particular (as well as other projects: for example, I have almost no experience with how things work on wiktionary or wikinews). Users who are neither familiar with policy or the sysop tools could be of great help by asking questions about anything that's unclear. The goal is to get everything together in one place, with a narrative form designed to anticipate the reader's next question.

A second project, related but not entailed, is a book on wikimedia in general, with a history of how various policies evolved over time, interesting trivia (e.g., what the heck was "wikimoney" about?), and a history of how the wikimedia foundation itself came about and the larger issues that occurred during its history (such as the infamous "Spanish Fork").

Again, thanks for your input on the RfA, and thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide for the handbook. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 13:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr[edit]

Thanks for the heads up on Image:White Rock Lake 4.jpg. I had also uploaded a 1, 2, and 3 which I fixed. Are all photos on Flickr released like this? Like someone from the Wikipedia can go and take them without asking? I was given a set of links saying I could use any of them as long as I put them under CC 2.5 (I guess 2.0) and attributed the author. drumguy8800 C T 01:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Radar animation of 9/11[edit]

I'll fiddle around and try and generate something workable for wiki-purposes in the next few days. A full animation of the event is not possible unfortunately as atmospheric noise was high early in the day, blanking out the smoke (it is a weather radar after all). The conditions improved a little while after the towers collapsed and then stay good for a considerable time. This gives plenty of time, and an animation showing the smoke billowing out to sea can be created - which is ideal really. I'll have to look closely at the timeline and see if the collapse of WTC 11 is visible (I suspect it probably is).--Nilfanion (talk) 23:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do I deal with a complaints against an user?[edit]

As I have posted this to two other users for advice, I am writing to you on how do I deal with an user as he has given me and another user a vandalism tag for an edit which me and that user, as a result I tried to explain to him that I have not vandalised the article, just general editing, he went out to dish out the blame and this is become heated.

In order to post the full complaint, I have attempted to make use of the ARV button on my Twinkie, but the comments is too big for it, so how do I post this complaint against this user

Another one is, shall I reply back to him, knowing this one is more heated than his previous reply as I don't like to be the person to back down and allow him get his way, therefore I take the blame for a general edit? Willirennen 23:53, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NPA. It's a policy.

However, I've found this. I know it's a bit old... but I thought you were very harsh with this person. Had this person not been anonymous, I would have kindly asked you to apologise to him/her for such an inappropriate conduct.

Here's the anonymous person's message, from the cURL talk page:

(about someone who thought this article was hard to read to technically-uninclined people)

Sure, but if you are reading such page, you should know (as a basic) what are those protocols, operating systems, and other technical words. They are basic in the computer science world.

To which you replied

Sir, you fail at life and as a person for your arrogance. A reader could arrive at this page from ANYWHERE. They may have no idea what any of the "basic technical words" mean. [ælf?ks] 07:57, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note the "fail at life and as a person". How can a well-constructed comment, such as this one, be made in bad faith?

However, I don't find his/her comment arrogant, as it's clear that if you fall on an article about such a deep and somewhat obscure software application, you are bound to have at least basic computer science knowledge. (well, you don't need a PhD =))

I think I can assert you failed at it, this time. --Sébastien Leblanc (Talk|Mail) 12:16, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:NSVChittanMemberofLokSabha.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 13:20, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User talk:Ryan Moore, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User talk:Ryan Moore is pure vandalism; this includes redirects created during cleanup of page move vandalism.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting User talk:Ryan Moore, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Wikiproject Electronics collaboration[edit]

Hi, I am writing to you because you have listed yourself as a member of the Electronics WikiProject. Sadly, this project is pretty dead, but I propose to resuscitate it with a collaboration. The idea is to have a concerted effort on improving one article per month, hopefully to GA or FA status and nominate the very best of them for the front page. I have prepared a page to control this process at Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronics/Collaboration (actually, I mostly shamelessly stole it from Wikipedia:WikiProject Mammals where a collaboration of this sort was succesfully run). There you can make nominations for articles for collaboration or comment on the nominations of others.

If you want to take part you might like to place this template {{WikiProject Electronics Collaboration}} on your userpage which will give you a link to the current collaboration. If you are no longer interested in Wikiproject Electronics, please remove yourself from the members list, which is now at Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronics/Members

Thanks for listening, SpinningSpark 14:24, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
