The WPVG Newsletter (January 2009)[edit]

  • Newsletter delivery by xenobot 00:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:WikiProject Entertainment articles, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:WikiProject Entertainment articles has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:WikiProject Entertainment articles, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Image copyright problem with File:Astropopcover.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Astropopcover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 04:41, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Lostplanet2cover.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lostplanet2cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:46, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Wwgameslogo.png is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Nuvola apps kbackgammon engine.png. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Nuvola apps kbackgammon engine.png]]. I have nominated List of New York Mets managers after rewriting the lead and adding the general manager section based off of another FL (List of Philadelphia Phillies managers). It seems to me that you were the main contributer before my work, so I have added you as a nominator. Just a heads-up, I will be leaving on Wednesday, but Juliancolton has agreed to deal with all issues that come up after that. I don't anticipate there to be many. Hi. I'm asking all project members to participate in this discussion. Thanks!--Flash176 (soon to be rechristened as Ridge Runner) (talk) 05:17, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3 box art.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  æronphonehome  08:27, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you changed the file name... you also re-uploaded the same disproportionate image as before. Why? Take a close look at it, now look at mine. Can you not also see that it seems to be the bundle box art as well, without some of the CG effects and box logos, etc., pushed into the shape of a DVD case? Making the image mis-proportioned (meaning the woman on the cover looks misshapen compared to the bundle). The logo is also smaller than it should be, I've seen the DVD case. That is not what it looks like. If you would PLEASE expend half of the effort you are using trying to force a bad looking image onto the article and find one that looks like the marketed case? Thank you.  æronphonehome  08:33, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Xboxelitepackage.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 00:20, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Thanks for uploading File:Ionassualtcover.jpg, File:Invinclbetigercover.jpg, File:Bubbleneocover.jpg, File:Xbox games on demand.jpg, File:Xbox live video marketplace.jpg, File:Puzzle Quest- Galactrix cover.jpg, File:Droplitz cover.jpg, File:CellFactor- Psychokinetic Wars cover.jpg, File:Shadow Complex cover.jpg, File:'Splosion Man cover.jpg, File:Worms2armageddon.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:14, 14 December 2009 (UTC). A valid source must be specific. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 03:14, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It has been superceded by changes to the File namespace and I wanted to let you know, since you have a transclusion on your userpage or user talk. If you need to respond to this message, please do so on my talk. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 21:41, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

/* Christmas mottos */[edit]

The motto idea for those between 25th December and mid January needs consensus dtermined badly on which version should be used for which day or even whether the whole idea should be scrapped or postponed. Please help by discussion and determining consensus at WT:Motto of the day/Nominations#Christmas series and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/Specials. The deadline is Friday at 9pm UTC. A tag has been placed on File:BW21 (yellow).jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
