20:55:51, 30 June 2015 review of submission by Etna805[edit]

Hi Elee,

I was wondering if you could give some clarity around the article and what made you feel like it read like an advertisement. The article feels fairly objective when I re-read it and if there were any details you felt stood out I would be interested in helping remedy them so that the page might be able to serve the Wikipedia community.

"The Program" and the "5 Pillars of Change" may have appeared to be "promotional" but highlighting these characteristics seemed valuable to me when you consider that this approach to treatment unique and innovative within the more broad category of how other therapeutic boarding schools facilitate treatment.

Any feedback would be appreciated, I really believe this would be a valuable asset to the Wikipedia ecosystem.

Etna805 (talk) 20:55, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Etna805,
Lets see, first by looking at the references first. The first reference pointing to the institute itself does not follow WP:RS. The second reference is only a link to the NIPSA website, and not to something that tells one for sure that the school is accredited by them. The third is a general note, nothing relevant to the school. The fourth is your first potentially reliable source but iffy at best. "bestplaces.net" doesn't really fulfill WP:RS, now does it? :^). The BBB reference is something, but only notes location. The Seattle Times reference is a good one - keep at that! Seven is once again from the institute itself.
You get the pattern, right? The only reference here that really holds weight is the Seattle Times article. This was noted by the reviewer User:BenLinus1214 back in April.
Now in regards to wording. Please see WP:PEACOCK. The first big sore thumb is "is an accredited, coeducational therapeutic boarding school". The fact that I keep reading about the school's accreditation leads me to believe that writing this article is just for publicity. Same goes for the "terrible family tragedy". There's no other coverage about this school from WP:RS and just about the school. While perhaps true, "more than 1,000" sounds peacockish.
"The school's mission is to rescue teens from crisis, renew their beliefs in their own potential and reunite them with their families and a path toward success." - now this just sounds like pamphlet material.
All this is only but a start to the things that can be fixed in order to turn this draft into a proper article.
Get better references, especially reliable ones, fix the wording so it sounds less like an advertisement and more like a neutral encyclopedic article, and you'll be well on your way to a good article. Hope this helps, E. Lee (talk) 21:32, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP URGENTLY[edit]

Hi, please I need your help. This page Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi should be fully protected to prevent vandals from defacing the page.

Reasons of the request:

  • 1. Vandalism (delete information supported by reliable sources)
  • 2. Edit War
  • 3. Conflict of interest
  • 4. Sectarian and Ideological Bias

I really hope you will be able to help me. Your support would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance! BiKaz (talk) 06:07, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BiKaz - I've rolled back the edits since all they did was remove chunks of text, but will be assuming good faith and letting them know of that. If you see any additional edits that could be construed as vandalism, please see WP:RfPP. E. Lee (talk) 06:16, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you sooo much, I REALLY appreciate your quick response and attention! I have already made a request for a full protection against vandalism, but it was not accepted by User:Redrose64, and I don't know why. Anyway, thanks for your help and kind assistance. My very best regards to you. --BiKaz (talk) 06:49, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. It should be noted Redrose64 probably had a good reason for not granting the RfPP - I'm actually about to head in now and would not be able to give the article a good looksee now. That being said, if you go through the request process when the article is going through a high amount of vandalism then your request would probably be dealt with. E. Lee (talk) 06:52, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Elee: BiKaz didn't submit a WP:RFPP, there is nothing in their contributions that shows an edit to the page Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. I can't grant a request that was never submitted.
@BiKaz: I am assuming that by "a request for a full protection against vandalism", you mean this edit. That is not a request for protection: the {{Edit fully-protected}} template is used to make a protected edit request, that is, a request to make an edit to a page that has already been fully protected. I reverted you for two reasons: one, because you didn't actually say what you wanted doing; and two, because the page Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi was not protected at the time. There was nothing in your edit to suggest that you wanted protection to be put on the page - and if you had done that, I would not have reverted you but would have declined the request with the message "Not done: requests for increases to the page protection level should be made at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection." That page - also known as WP:RFPP is monitored by several admins who specialise in page protection.
Also please note that if you need something urgently, it's not a good idea to send messages to the talk pages of individual admins. They might not see your message for some time, if they are away from the computer, or are asleep - as I was (I live in the UK, where the time of that edit was 07:11 BST; it's now 10:45). In this case, you sent the same message to four people: Elee, Arjayay, Redrose64, and Stickee, so even if one or more of them saw it straight away, they may notice that you sent the same message to several people, and so might assume that one of the others is handling it, or they might ignore it as a duplicate thread, or ignore it as spam. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:45, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am a new user here and don't know much about the technical policies and procedures. All I know is that this person User:Obaid_Raza removed my edits, and wrote "false information removed"!!! Anyway, I am sorry for any inconvenience or confusion I might have caused you. PEACE. --BiKaz (talk) 13:11, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reference book in which you are using (from Ehsan Elahi Zaheer) funding from the Saudi Wahhabi regime was written just for criticizing Ahmed Raza Khan. Therefore, you can not use it. I saw your review of this draft. I'm not sure how you can consider the draft as you saw it when you declined it to have been borderline. What have I missed that you have seen, please? Article history[edit]

Hi Eugene, I've just seen this comment of yours, referring to the German tools for article history. They did say it could all be carried over, as I understood it. Is that going to go ahead, or did someone stop it? I didn't entirely understand your post, so any clarification would be helpful. We badly need that to be up and running again. Pinging Kudpung. Sarah (talk) 02:31, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(and Sarah) There is a general confusion here. I'm on the mailing list but I can't really make head or tail what's going on. It looks as if Cyberpower is still determined to write his own. A script that would take a comptent programmer a day or two to write or a couple of hours to port an existing version to en.Wiki is still not available despite having a whole team on it for weeks. I'm waiting/hoping to find out just to what extent the Labs server itsel is responsible for all tese delays. If I knew, I would be able to take it up with the WMF on the team's behalf. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:41, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Kudpung. The German one looks so nice, too, so it would be really great if we could have it, and that it seems to be working on the Labs server is a good sign. Who is in a position to copy it over, do you know? I'm wondering if there's someone else we can ask. Sarah (talk) 03:46, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Evening SlimVirgin, I'm definitely confused as well (regarding the mailing list). I came in because the current xtools team wanted a stack up and running on Tools, which I did. I'd be glad to port Apper's beautiful tool if he makes the source available. I can take it and ask for translations from our good friend Kudpung to translate relevant words to English and throw it onto Tool Labs. E. Lee (talk) 03:53, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I believe APPER agreed, or so I thought from this post. I understood that he would add Cyberpower as a maintainer so that Cyberpower had access to the code. The latter agreed, and that was the last I heard of it. Can you ask to be added instead? Sarah (talk) 03:59, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah you're right - I don't typically watch pages or amble about talk pages unless pinged. For the sake of time, I'll email APPER right now since its morning in Germany so he sees it immediately. Moment I get access, I'll set about with this new project. E. Lee (talk) 04:15, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's wonderful, Eugene, thank you! Sarah (talk) 04:19, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just an update - didn't hear back from APPER yet (hopefully it didn't go to spam) so I'm sending again via alternative email address to the email address he's provided on his talk page right now. Looking forward to more information! E. Lee (talk) 17:16, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I was on vacation - you now have access to the project. --APPER (talk) 18:00, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's brilliant news, APPER, thank you! Pinging Kudpung, Cyberpower678, TParis. Sarah (talk) 18:09, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Mail received, noodling about in the project (sorry for bothering you so much APPER!) - will continue verbose conversation via email. E. Lee (talk) 18:19, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanted to give a quick update - I haven't made any large contributions yet because of RL, but have been pouring over the source in my free time. I intend on working on this starting this weekend. I will provide substantial notes and details then as I go about getting the tool up and running for enwiki. Cheers, E. This is by far our biggest event of the year (over 200 participants in the last edition), and every extra hand counts, so please join and volunteer to help us engage new communities!

10:00am - 5:00pm (drop-in anytime!) at The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building at the Museum of Modern Art, 4 West 54 Street - between 5th/6th, New York, NY 10019
Please note that this entrance is one block north of the main 53rd Street entrance, closer to 5th Avenue.

And bring your interested friends and colleagues!

For those outside of the city, or unable to join on Saturday, check out Art+Feminism regional and global events as well. --Pharos (talk) 21:48, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan.

We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.

We will also vote on nominations for the global Wikimedia Foundation board.

After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!

Saturday April 30, 1-6pm: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa @ Guggenheim
File:Monir Portrait-exh ph021.jpg

On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Wikipedia edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia.

The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Asian Month, and Art+Feminism.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Can’t join us in New York? Visit our global MENA Artists Month partnership page to coordinate international and online events as well.

Time: Presentation: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Edit-a-thon: 2:30pm - 6:00pm
Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue (88th Street), New York City, New York 10128
Guests should enter using the 88th Street entrance via the ramp at 88th Street and Fifth Avenue

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) ~~~~~
