Finally, a woman who works in category I know something about - I spent many days, years, fishing with grandpa (in freshwater ponds), I eat fish, but I'm no expert on their science. LOL If you have the time or inclination, could you give her a copyedit? SusunW (talk) 19:51, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: I know absolutely nothing about fishing and have never been tempted to stand still for hours on end hoping to catch something. Very little to do on this one. I noticed you capitalized Deputy Director General but not director. I am not sure whether there is any guidance on this but I would not usually capitalize such titles unless they were used to designate an individual, e.g. Director General John Smith. On checking, e.g. Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biography#Titles_of_people, I see this is also recommended for Wikipedia.--Ipigott (talk) 07:48, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The point of fishing with grandpa is that it was always productive (i.e. pond hopping) and he told stories. I could listen to him for hours. He had this keyring that was a big as his fist (the size of a grapefruit, really huge) that opened every farm field gate in the county. He literally stocked every single pond for miles around in exchange for a key. We always came home with a huge haul because if they weren't biting, we'd just hop to another pond. I was very fortunate, he lived until I was 46, so I got to hear tons of stories and he was a fabulous story teller. Thanks for your help. I appreciate you very much. SusunW (talk) 14:30, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My grandpa used to tell stories for hours on end too but they were sadly often about his experiences in Flanders in the First World War where he lost a lung from mustard gas and was sent back home. He had an amazing memory for literature and could remember all the details of Dickens' novels, often quoting large chunks verbatim. I remember reading The Pickwick Papers when I was ten or eleven, just to be able to follow what he was talking about. Your fishing experiences seem to have been far more rewarding and you were lucky your grandpa lived so long. Thanks for introducing me to the interesting concept of "pond hopping".--Ipigott (talk) 15:03, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from PrimalBeingToken (13:04, 4 March 2024)[edit]

Hi, I'm new to Wikipedia and would like to create a new article. I've seen the suggestions that I should make smaller edits first, but for various reasons I would like to go straight to creating a new one. I am a volunteer at the Portuguese nonprofit organisation Batoto Yetu, which has a Portuguese Wikipedia article. I would like my first artcle to be an English version of that. How would I go about this process? I've done some prior reading before creating my account, then the website assigned me a mentor so I figured you could give me some useful pointers. --PrimalBeingToken (talk) 13:04, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there, PrimalBeingToken, and welcome to Wikipedia. In my message on your talk page, you'll find links to guidance on how to edit on the English Wikipedia. I note your interest in translating Batoto Yetu into English but I must first warn you that it is considerably more difficult to create articles in English than in Portuguese. Furthermore, it is not recommended that people closely associated with an organization should create an article about it. Nevertheless, if you really want to go ahead, it is important for your article to be based on reliable secondary sources, i.e. sources not related to the organization itself. Unfortunately, the Portuguese article is completely unsourced and a translation would not be accepted on the English wiki. As new articles should based on at least three secondary sources, you may be able to put something together on the basis of sources such as "The African roots of fado and “Preta Fernanda”: the stories of Africa in Lisbon discovered by Batoto Yetu", Highlighting African communities in Lisbon and "Lisbon (finally) inaugurated street signs that tell its African history". In any case, I suggest you start with a fairly short well-sourced article, presenting the essentials. Once it has been found acceptable, it can always be expanded. You'll find more guidance at Help:Your first article. If you decide to proceed along these lines, please let me know when you think you have created an acceptable first draft and I'll provide feedback. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 14:04, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Norma Gregory[edit]

Hello again Ipigott, I hope you are well. I have drafted a page on Norma Gregory. I wonder if you might take a look at it? I have tried to find better categories this time. No hurry from my side. I know you are always much in demand! Balance person (talk) 15:57, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
Hello, Ipigott! Your name has delighted my notifications countless times with new page reviews and article assessments, and browsing your userpage leaves me in awe of such a talented contributor. Here's a barnstar to say thank you for all your much-appreciated work! IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 15:52, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you very much, IgnatiusofLondon. You have really been doing a wonderful job yourself with all those interesting articles in connection with Rimini. I've just upgraded three more of them to B class. Once or twice a week, I take a look at new articles under WikiProject Italy. So I'll no doubt be coming across more of your creations in the coming weeks and months. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 17:56, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Slow going, but I think I finally scraped together enough sources to write the article. If you have the time and inclination, it could use a copyedit. I appreciate you. SusunW (talk) 19:21, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: I'm no expert on tropical diseases but you seem to have done a pretty good job on this one. Always a pleasure to look through your articles although in this case there was not much to do. Looking forward to the next one.--Ipigott (talk) 12:02, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is getting harder to find people in the chain that meet GNG source requirements for sure. When I started on her, the only 2 things I could find were the AFWST report and the list of members of the academy of science. Days of searching her name finally changed the algorithms enough that I could scrape together sufficient material for an article. That marriage record, which confirmed her maiden name in the Cambridge records, was totally a lucky find. I genuinely appreciate your help. Next one is an Indian woman who has lived almost all of her life in Africa. SusunW (talk) 14:00, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I finished the next one. Deepa Pullanikkatil, if you want to give it a once over. No worries if you are too busy. SusunW (talk) 16:43, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: Been though it pretty quickly. Not many changes.--Ipigott (talk) 17:07, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Newpagesfeed[edit]

Hello @Ipigott, hope you are fine.

I am a little confused about my contributions to Wikipedia. I contribute mostly to NewPagesFeed. Now, whatever article comes in Newpagesfeed, I try to improve that article. But many times those articles are created by sockpuppets, so when Checkuser investigates, they also doubt on me. What should be the solution for this? Is there any problem for me with this? And I think most of the people contribute from Newpagesfeed only. Thanks Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 16:21, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Youknowwhoistheman: I'm happy to see you have been trying to improve some of the articles you find in New Pages Feed. I'm surprised to see you have unintentionally been editing some created by socks. Unless you have received any warnings, I don't think you should worry too much about this. In future you should perhaps concentrate on improving articles created by well established editors. Let me know if you face any specific problems in this connection.--Ipigott (talk) 16:42, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Ipigott, in future I only concentrate on improving articles created by well-established editors. once again thank you for your time. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 19:20, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Mariamne (Q10326261) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Alison Heydari[edit]

Hello again! I have attempted a short page on Alison Heydari If you had time, could you say if you think it is enough to qualify? Thank you if you can. It is very short but she is pretty unusual. Balance person (talk) 18:11, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person: You've done a pretty good job on this and moved it successfully to article space. I changed her various job titles to lower case as upper case is only used in conjunction with a person's name, e.g. Director General Joan Doe. See MOS:PEOPLETITLES. It's good to see you have also made progress with categories. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:37, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the lower case tip. I will note that for the future. Balance person (talk) 21:59, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Query re process[edit]

Dear Ipigott, A query! Right from when I started drafting new pages, I have checked them with you to make sure they are good enough and you have kindly moved them to main space for me and done wiki data and all sorts to complete the process. I understand from hanging around the Tea Room that another way is to submit an article for consideration but it seems, as there are few admin checkers, that that process can take months to complete. You and another very experienced editor have encouraged me to move drafts to mainspace myself when I figure they are good enough. SO my query is this... if I do this, who checks to make sure the page is up to scratch? Are there new page patrolling admin editors? Do I have to contact them? Is it safer for biographies of marginalised people to be shepherded through by someone such as yourself who belongs to WiR or WiGreen or...? Are there any help pages on this? I am so happy discussing my draft pages with you but I know you are really busy so wonder if I can/should be more independent. Balance person (talk) 16:32, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person: I check new pages almost every day, especially those in connection with women. As there are many other new page reviewers, your articles are unlikely to go unnoticed. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol. If somehow your new page is missed or you need further assistance, you can always let me know.--Ipigott (talk) 06:38, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! That is great, thanks. I always wondered how it all happened. So I will try to move Alison Heydari and hope that you spot her! Balance person (talk) 08:59, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yay! It worked. Thank you! Balance person (talk) 09:19, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Table[edit]

Hey @Ipigott, Hope you are doing well!

How to update a table? in Wikipedia?

Actually I want to update Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons article, but I am facing problem in making the table, recently 2 women journalists have won this award. Thanks you. Youknowwhoistheman ([[User talk:{{|talk]]) 12:42, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Youknowwhoistheman: I suggest you just look carefully at how the table has been set up in edit mode and then try to add the two new prizewinners. If you really can't manage it yourself, please let me know.--Ipigott (talk) 14:10, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Thanks @Ipigott, I'll try. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 14:15, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Ipigott, kindly update this article Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 14:23, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) The answer to "How to update a table" is "Take a deep breath, look at the code for the existing lines of the table, and add similar new lines. Use Page Preview. If it's gone horribly wrong, try something slightly different. If no success at all, use Cancel." Have you had a go?
But I see that here the person who added the last year, 2022, didn't format it quite right either! I'll have a go at adding 2024 - have you got a source anywhere for 2023, which is missing? PamD 19:08, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that was a nice little rabbit hole to fall into: the answer to the missing 2023 award turns out to be that they've changed their system, so the 2022 award was made in 2023, but in 2024 they made the 2024 award - reported so in several sources! I've added a note to clarify.
Updating the table perfectly took several steps, as this was a year of two recipients, only one of whom had a credit for the "Associated Media House" column, but by taking it a step at a time, and copying the format of existing examples, I got there. (I don't do a lot with tables but enjoy the challenge of getting them right.) PamD 19:36, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I now notice it's a "Featured list", so it's disappointing that no-one had noticed the careless update for 2022. The list would also probably be better if individual recipients appeared on their own lines (with the date spanning the two or more lines), so that the list could be sorted on the surnames of all recipients, not just the first-named for each year. But I don't feel interested enough in it to put in the work to make that change. PamD 19:40, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your efforts, PamD. I'm afraid I simply did not have the patience to look into it.--Ipigott (talk) 15:23, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Super Silver WIR education award (and bar)
Hi Ian, thought it important to mark your creation of Elisabeth Söderberg... your 24th article in our year long Women in Education editathon. It also has to be noted that someone I know has run 300 editathons... amazing. This ethereal barnstar comes with a thick layer of virtual silver plating and thoughtful polishing. Thank you, Roger. It was something of a challenge to find 24 Scandinavians who were not only notable in education but also had images available either already on Commons or suitable for uploading. Arte about Swedish artist Peter Klingberg Geschwind[edit]

Dear Ian,

Like PrimalBeingToken I'm new too to Wikipedia and would like to create an article about Swedish artist Peter Klingberg Geschwind, who passed away in 2021 and who worked in Stockholm. I have a joint text with all necessary materials and chapters and code for it, but unfortunately my article was deleted. May I please ask you to help with this material? W.editor.a1 (talk) 12:46, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, W.editor.a1, and thanks for getting in touch. I see your page was deleted on the basis of copyright problems. When creating articles on Wikipedia, it is important to rewrite what you find in your own words. On the basis of this obituary, Peter Geschwind certainly deserves an article on the English Wikipedia. I see you drew on this site which also provides useful coverage. And there is also a link from SR. If you would like to create a new draft on the basis of these resources, I would be glad to help you along. Let me know how it goes. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:17, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Ian, thank you, I have rewritten the text and would like to try posting it again. Can I ask for advice on what else I need to consider or should I do better in advance? W.editor.a1 (talk) 18:46, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
W.editor.a1: Please provide a link to the text. I can't see anything under your contributions.--Ipigott (talk) 20:43, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, could I please ask you to tell if this link works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:W.editor.a1/sandbox W.editor.a1 (talk) 12:57, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
W.editor.a1: The link certainly works and much of the biography is quite well presented; but as you've run into copyright violations before, you need to be careful not to raise further problems. According to this analysis, the section on Shows is taken almost without modification from here, which in any case is too closely related to the subject. I suggest you rewrite the section, selecting a few key exhibitions rather than presenting a long list. If you wish, you can include the Peter Geschind source under External links. The other problem is that several paragraphs have no citations. It's important to include at least one reference in each paragraph, preferably at the end of the paragraph. I'm surprised you did not draw ofn this site which looks very reliable and contains many useful details. I suggest you now try to improve your draft along these lines and let me know when you would like me to look at it again.--Ipigott (talk) 16:14, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Ian, I have changed the text of the article, taking into account your recommendations. May I please ask you to look at it again? Do you think anything additional needs to be corrected at the moment? W.editor.a1 (talk) 21:55, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@W.editor.al:: Thanks for following up on some of my suggestions. I've tidied it up a bit, added wikilinks and references and moved it to article space as Peter Geschwind. Now that you are becoming more familiar with the requirements of Wikipedia, you might feel inspired to write biographies of some of the artists he worked with. I think it would also be useful if you could say something about your background and interests on your user page. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:05, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your advice and help, I learned a lot! I also managed to obtain the original photograph of the artist from the copyright holder, which I would like to place in the article.
However, as far as I understand, according to the licensing policy, a photo can be published in an article only if it was previously made available (published somewhere else) under a license Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)? W.editor.a1 (talk) 13:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@W.editor.al: Under these rules from Commons, the copyright owner can send an email confirming permission to use. Alternatively he can add the photo to Commons directly as his own work.--Ipigott (talk) 14:05, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Geriatricians[edit]

assuming no one is in multiple nationalities, which I suspect we have at least one or two who are, there are 66 articles in the geriatricians tree. With that size I think we should eliminated all the categories. I think we should establish a bare minimum size at which we will split by nationality an occupation. Specifically an occupation that is a tertiary sub-cat of scientists. I think we should bite the bullet and place everyone a rung up and group all geriatricians in one category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:13, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Johnpacklambert: I am no expert on categories but I see that geriatrics is a rapidly growing profession. In the United States alone, I see from here there are today some 7,300 practicing geriatricians. We can certainly expect articles in these categories to grow over time, especially if we have a drive on improving coverage of medical specialists.--Ipigott (talk) 06:29, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Number 22. The chain is longer than I thought possible. If you have the inclination, it could benefit from a copyedit. Thanks! SusunW (talk) 18:01, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Hardly anything to do on this one. I took out "from her" in "Musyimi-Ogana pledged the support of people and resources from her to assist them" but perhaps you meant to say "from her native Kenya".--Ipigott (talk) 12:15, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was supposed to say from her department. But I am not sure if that is necessary. Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it very much. SusunW (talk) 14:22, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2024 United Arab Emirates Women's Quadrangular Series[edit]

Hello, you recently classified 2024 United Arab Emirates Women's Quadrangular Series page as a list-class, whereas it is an article about a tournament to be held in April. Can you explain how it got classified as list-class? Thanks in advance. Cric editor (talk) 15:19, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contacting me on this, Cric editor. It's always useful to receive feedback. As the article is mainly devoted to various listings rather than descriptive text, I thought List would be more appropriate than Stub. If you look through Category:List-Class Women's sport articles you will see that a considerable number of tournaments are also classed as lists. I have nevertheless looked into quite a number of cricket tournament articles and have not found any others classed as List. I have therefore changed the class to Stub and will try to remember to avoid List on other articles about cricket tournaments. If you come across inappropriate classes, you are of course always free to change them yourself. But please let me know if you encounter any other cases where you think I have chosen the wrong class. (While I was looking into this, I also took the opportunity to process several of your other articles awaiting assessment.) Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:56, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply, it was just first time I encountered such case, so I was curious to know. And also, thanks alot for reviewing my other articles. Cric editor (talk) 16:18, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, what should we do now to get this draft as an accepted article? I also need to link this on The NEXT Museum page. Thank you again for your amazing help on the Electronic Literature Wikipedia project!!! LoveElectronicLiterature (talk) 17:39, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LoveElectronicLiterature: Now in mainspace but you need to add more citations. Many statements appear to be unsourced. Maybe you can use the sources already mentioned, just making sure that no paragraphs are without a citation. In general, it's a good idea to make sure there's a citation at the end of each paragraph. I'll check it again tomorrow. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 17:58, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ipigott, I continue working on a series of articles about influential women. However, my recent article about the notable emotional intelligence coach, Svetlana Whitener, has been moved to draft space. Could you kindly review it and consider recommending its move to the main space? This article is not an orphan; Svetlana was referred on the European Mentoring and Coaching Council page. Thank you for your time and consideration. Jacob0790 (talk) 04:34, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jacob0790:: I've looked carefully at the article. For a living person, the sources are not strong as they nearly all seem to be related to her involvement with Forbes (which is not considered reliable). The award for her company CTI seems useful but it dates back to 2010 and only appears without comment in a list. Perhaps you can find supporting coverage in the press. Overall you really need to find reliable independent sources in accordance with the advice in the WiR primer. The article also comes over as promotional. Let me know if you are able to improve on sourcing and I'll take another look. On the other hand, I really enjoyed reading your recent Joy (dog) which I've promoted to B class. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:22, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ipigott, thank you for your time and detailed review. Unfortunately, when someone writes an article about a living person, it's obvious it's because this individual has made notable contributions in a certain field. It's very challenging to describe these accomplishments without them being flagged as promotional. I will continue looking for the reliable sources. Thanks. Jacob0790 (talk) 15:50, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Ipigott:, Happy Easter! Do you think this article Joy (dog) good enough to be nominated for WP:DYK? Thanks, Jacob0790 (talk) 21:08, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jacob0790: Yes, it's certainly good enough. I think you should nominate it. Happy Easter!--Ipigott (talk) 05:45, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Jeromeenriquez. I've looked through your articles and carried out the necessary reviews and assessments. You can see the results here. I'm afraid I'm not involved in reviewer applications. I suppose you are already familiar with Wikipedia:Reviewing pending changes. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:25, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wilhelmine Lohmann[edit]

I thought this biography regarding Wilhelmine Lohmann, German educator and temperance leader, was worth creating, even with scant EN-language sources. I think it is okay as is, but improvements are welcome, particularly if you have access to additional references, in EN or DE, and/or a photo. Pinging also @Dr. Blofeld and Gerda Arendt as they may have access to things that I don't on this side of the pond. No rush, and if you're busy with other things, no worries. Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:07, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What started out as an article on the peace train organized by Litha Musyimi-Ogana mushroomed when I realized how many of these have occurred. I would love, love, love to have photos, but I doubt any are free to use. If you have the time or the inclination, your input and copyediting would be very much appreciated. Question from Jeromeenriquez on User:Jeromeenriquez (21:17, 30 March 2024)[edit]

hello, can you review my article, Paul Kyung Sang Lee.

thanks --Jeromeenriquez (talk) 21:17, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi once again, Jeromeenriquez. I spent quite some time yesterday reviewing your articles. I think other reviewers should now be given an opportunity to review your more recent creations. I see Draft:Paul Kyung Sang Lee is waiting to be reviewed under the AfC process. Given your considerable experience of editing, there is nothing to prevent you moving the article to mainspace yourself where it is likely to be reviewed more quickly. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 05:42, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Translation/Deciding the name of the article[edit]

Hello @Ipigott! I have found your name in WikiProject Intertranswiki/Spanish. I was wondering if you could help me decide how to properly name this article: Draft:Hispaniola (battalion). The unit calls themselves "Эспаньола" which directly translates to Hispaniola, but I think that maybe its more proper to call it in a transliterated way "Espaniola" or just simply "Española"? Thank you for yor time. F.Alexsandr (talk) 08:49, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, F.Alexsandr. I see from here it's called the "Española battalion"- That seems to me to be the best choice for an English title. Hispaniola is a Caribbean island. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:21, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

April music[edit]

story · music · places

I like to see Appalachian Spring on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed, and bringing the woman behind it to be pictured), and I also made it my story. - How do you like the statue (look up places)? - I was undecided so show three versions ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:46, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The statue is of Hildegard of Bingen, and as it happens, her Physica is on the Main page today, and Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:04, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing this out, Gerda.--Ipigott (talk) 15:20, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:50, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My story today is about a piece composed for the Second Sunday after Easter 300 years ago, and I just returned from a (long) opera about the same age, with soprano Pretty Yende --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:12, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
relief: the last of six RD articles in one week is now on the Main page - yesterday a great recital with many anti-war songs by Jewish composers whose music was banned by the Nazis. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:25, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fascinating life story. I hope I got it right. The German was a bit hard to translate in the two published biographies p 221, pp 321-329 I am also not sure of the translation of "Villa Kummerkasten", Google gives Villa of Box of Sorrows, Yandex Box of Grief Villa. If you can help, that'd be lovely. SusunW (talk) 17:25, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Discovered this after an 11-hour road trip from Luxembourg to Denmark -- so I might not be as attentive as usual. The name Tugendhat has always intrigued me, no doubt because while I was working at the European Commission, Christopher Tugendhat was a ritish Commissioner for a few years. In articles like this, I am faced with the difficulty of distinguishing between "history of art" as a topic deserving attention and "art history" as an subject taught in universities. I've more or less left things as they are but thought I should draw it to your attention. As I have had close associations with culture in both Austria and Czechia, I found the article really interesting. Not much to do in copy-editing though (except perhaps for eminent!). Looking forward to the next link.--Ipigott (talk) 15:16, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at the sources and saw she was "Austrian" but that her family were Czech and ended up in Venezuela, and I knew I had to know more. (We have dear friends from here, wife is Czech/husband Mexican, who moved to a village near Prague. Beautiful country.) Yes, the sources say art history, but it seemed to me that she is looking for historical clues in art for what they depict about the social and political status and perspectives of women. One of the things I find fascinating about women's studies is how it encompasses so many fields. Glad you arrived safely. I wonder if your British politician is related to her, seems likely. I appreciate your help, as always. SusunW (talk) 15:36, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Box of Grief" probably slighty better, but how about "Box of Troubles" or "Troubles Box Villa"? Just a suggestion.--Ipigott (talk) 15:41, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It just seems like there is a verb or punctuation missing in English, i.e. Villa is a Box of Troubles or Villa, Box of Troubles. I get that headlines are often not grammatical, but nonetheless, it makes it difficult to translate. SusunW (talk) 16:05, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is meant as a name (though invented by the journalist) in the context. Although the actual name is "Villa Tugendhat", he uses "Villa Kummerkasten" in the title. The word "Kummerkasten" literally means "box of sorrows" and is the standard word for a suggestion box (where you can make anonymous complaints). Something starting with "Villa Ku..." immediately brings up the thought of "Villa Kunterbunt", the German name of Villa Villekulla and an extremely popular name for buildings in Germany. Anyway, the journalist just wants to make a point that there is trouble with this box-shaped villa, so he calls it "Trouble Box Villa" (it might be better to put the "villa" after the name). It is not the most brilliant word play. —Kusma (talk) 16:23, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Kusma. I think we can agree on Trouble Box Villa.--Ipigott (talk) 18:27, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your Opinion?[edit]

Hi Ipigott, I hope you are well. I am grateful for your kindness and good advice in the past, and would appreciate your opinion about this series of edits on one of my articles:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yvonne_Rokseth&action=history I’m starting to feel harassed. Do you have any thoughts about how I could handle this more effectively? Thank you,

T. E. Meeks (talk) 17:26, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, T. E. Meeks, for bringing this to my attention. I understand why you are somewhat frustrated. The other editor involved may simply be trying to improve the presentation. I see from here he has written quite a number of biographies in relation to music. I think perhaps Gerda Arendt is the best person to advise on this.--Ipigott (talk) 19:03, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Michael Bednarek is one of the most diligent, competent and helpful editors project classical music has, also kind. He writes good edit summaries. Try to understand them, and if you don't, ask on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:18, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Gerda Arendt, that was my impression too. I hope this will satisfy T. E. Meeks.--Ipigott (talk) 19:23, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input.

Question from IriniKonstantinidiJazzVocalist (18:51, 13 April 2024)[edit]

Hello! I just started my Artist Page a while ago and have placed all relevant information verified with external links. I haven't understood if I should do something about the COI problem (since I'm writing about myself) and if it applies in my case, in the first place. Please, let me know if I have done everything correctly and whether I should do something extra to avoid my page being blocked or deleted.

Thank you very much! Best regards, Irini --IriniKonstantinidiJazzVocalist (talk) 18:51, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, IriniKonstantinidiJazzVocalist, and welcome to Wikipedia. On your talk page, you will find links to guidance on how to edit Wikipedia. Your user name seems to me to be promotional and could soon be deleted. I suggest you change it to "IriniKonstantinidi" (see Wikipedia:Changing username). You can use your user page to give basic information about yourself, where you come from and why you are interested in Wikipedia but this should not be promotional. Wikipedia strongly advises against writing about yourself. Instead you should create articles about other topics or notable people. Writing about people you know falls within COI. Please let me know if you run into any more difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 05:39, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi and thank you for your reply. I chose this username for me because IriniKonstantinidi was already used by someone else and I couldn't use it for me. The purpose was to start my Artist page, which I read on several Google results that it is possible on Wikipedia. If it is not, I have no problem deleting my account completely. IriniKonstantinidiJazzVocalist (talk) 08:23, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IriniKonstantinidiJazzVocalist: It may be possible but is not recommended. But if this is your only interest, then it may not be a good idea to continue editing on Wikipedia. However, if you decide to stay, you could indeed use the user name "IriniKonstantinidi" as it is not yet in use (unlike Irini Konstantinidi with a space).--Ipigott (talk) 09:07, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response! I will try to see how I can delete my account. If I don't manage to delete it myself, I hope that it will be deleted eventually, since I will not be using it.
Thank you for your help. IriniKonstantinidiJazzVocalist (talk) 09:37, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Twister screenshot (00:00, 16 April 2024)[edit]

I am Kovtan, I joined wikipedia because I need to teach people how to properly edit. I know more than you do, because I am a dominator and my father, Papa Kovtan taught me how to edit. I don't need your help, I already know what to do on Wikipedia, maybe I could teach you how to edit --Twister screenshot (talk) 00:00, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia, Twister screenshot. You may think you know how to edit but you certainly should not make any more disruptive edits on Wikipedia articles or you will be blocked for vandalism. If you want to experiment, please use your sandbox. I would be happy to help you along if you are really interested in contributing and are ready to adopt a less confrontational attitude. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:02, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ipigott, I noticed you've moved Nandipha Magudumana from start-class to c-class and I was wondering if you could please assess Tyla as it is also on start-class. I was thinking of nominating the article to GA standard but I'm currently working on rectifying minor problems such as MOS and adding more relevant content where needed. Please do reach out, I'll be on the lookout for your response. dxneo (talk) 06:46, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, dxneo, and thanks for getting in touch. I've reassessed Tyla (album) as B class and have also assessed or reassessed a number of your other articles. If you intend to continue writing about women, you might like to join WikiProject Women in Red where we are trying to improve Wikipedia's coverage of women. You can sign up under "New registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:17, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you by any chance think that the current state of the article stand a chance to become GA (aiming for A-class 'cause FA looks like a far reach)?? If not, where/what do you suggest I should improve? I structured the article referencing Invasion of Privacy and Ungodly Hour, however I would like to get a composition like that on Madame X Thank you I'll be on the lookout for your response. dxneo (talk) 16:41, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
dxneo: I'm no expert on pop music but it looks pretty good to me. If you nominate it, the reviewer should help you to improve any shortcomings.--Ipigott (talk) 20:00, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
