Proposed deletion tags[edit]

Hello Marchjuly,

You wrote on my talk page:

>> WP:DECORATIVE non-free use in JoJo Siwa#Other ventures which fails WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFCC#8. Despite the claim made in the non-free use rationale provided for this use, the single sentence about Siwa'a performance in the CBS Dick Van Dyke special doesn't require seeing this screenshot to be understood; so, the simple text description of the performance is more than sufficient per WP:FREER. Moreover, the screenshot itself isn't really the subject of any sourced critical commentary or otherwise significant to the reader's encyclopedic understanding of the relevant article content to the extent that not seeing the screenshot would be detrimental to that understand. Similar to films, screenshots for TV shows can be used when they are related to some technical, production, thematic, design, etc. aspect of the TV show that might be receiving coverage in reliable sources for one reason or another, but generally not to simply "show" someone performing in the show or some other plot aspect. A screenshot showing Siwa dancing doesn't really need to be seen by readers to understand that Siwa performed in the show, and it's hard to see how a low-resolution still image of one moment during her performance can portray the atmosphere of that performance to the reader. <<

(And you provided me with an identical paragraph pertaining to the Zachary Levi page.)

Considering your status as someone who Wikipedia administration assigns as an advisor, I'm not inclined to remove the proposed deletion tags which you placed on those image file captions.

In your paragraph above, you raise the following two issues:

1. The image file isn't "significant to the reader's encyclopedic understanding of the relevant article".

My response: The same can be said for every "free image" photo I've ever seen that has been placed on an article about a person.

2. .."it's hard to see how a low-resolution still image of one moment during her performance can portray the atmosphere of that performance"

My response: The atmosphere of the performances as captured by the still images jumps right out at me. More importantly, those images communicate the performers' aptitudes.

It's sad that the policies, as written, regarding fair-use non-free images have such a stifling effect on the content of an article. The Zachary Levi and JoJo Siwa images that are part of their respective articles are exactly what readers love to see. Those images are uplifting and make the reading of an article a greater pleasure. The main point of having an encyclopedia, as with anything, is enjoyment. The images in the articles of subject do not constitute anything false or misleading.

I hope you will remove the proposed deletion tags.

Freely licensed images and non-free images are not subject to the same policy so trying to compare the way such images can be used on Wikipedia is sort of like trying to compare an apple to an orange; they're similar in that they are both images and subject to WP:IUP, but there are way more additional restrictions placed on non-free use; moreover, Wikipedia's non-free content use policy has been set up to be even more restrictive than even the concept of fair use.
I disagree with your assessment of impact of these files; they might jump out at you, but that could be just because you were adding a number of screenshots from the Dick Van Dyke special to not only the Siwa BLP but also several other BLPs. As I posted in the rationale I gave when proposing these files for deletion; this type of non-free use is pretty much a textbook case of WP:DECORATIVE non-free use in that removing the screenshots will not be detrimental to the reader's understanding in significant way. You can disagree with my assessment if you like, and WP:DEPROD the files; however, I will then bring them up for discussion at WP:FFD, where I think you're going to have a really hard time establishing a consensus if favor of their non-free use unless you're able to find specific sourced critical commentary about the particular screenshot itself and add that to the respective articles.
I haven't been invested with any special privileges by the WMF or anyone else. I'm not a Wikipedia administrator, but even if I was that still wouldn't given any special status when it comes to something like this. I do, however, have quite a bit of experience when it comes to non-free content use and good grasp of what kinds of things are generally considered OK. So, before you de-prod the files, you might want to seek other input at either WP:MCQ or WT:NFCC. Either of those places is where you're going to find other Wikipedians familiar with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy, and if there's something faulty about my proposing the file's for deletion, one of them will almost certainly step in a de-prod the files.
Finally, the policy as written is what it is, and it's been that way for quite a long time. You can discuss the policy and propose changes if you feel it's too restrictive. The place to do so would be a WT:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:57, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TeaHouse off topic conversation[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
I've got nothing more to add to this. If you two want to continue the discussion, do it on your user talk pages. I going to do something that I don't think I've even done before and ask you both to not post here on my usertalk page anymore unless you're required to do so (i.e. an official notification of a discussion concerning me) by relevant policy, or you have a specific and legitimate question related Wikipedia editing. Anything else will be ignored/removed as I deem necessary. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:26, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marchjuly, I saw that discussion closed thing that you put on there. I tbh agree with u, there was some trolling going on in the conversation. I just wanted to help, and it said discussion closed before I got to it, I was trying to warn them about how the conversation was getting off topic and it was already closed by the time I got there. Hope u understand, Thanks! -Starixxgamerrix Starixxgamerrix (talk) 01:09, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The bold close of the discussion had nothing to do with what your or anyone else responding to the OP posted; it was entirely based on the posts of the OP since they were going nowhere and it didn't seem like the OP was going to stop anytime soon. If you want to continue the discussion and feel there's something to be gained by doing so, feel refer to revert the close. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To answer both you and @Starixxgamerrix I’m not trolling and I hate therapy. I hate whenever my posts about genuine discussion are shut down and everything I say discarded as trolling. It’s happened to me many many times and I’m honestly sick of it. I’m not mad, just saying. WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 01:40, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well.... I'm sorry, but the conversation was kinda getting off topic, and I was not the one who put the trolling thing. Why are we starting an argument about this, it was handled already. I don't want to get banned or Marchjuly or you, for fighting. It's one on Wikipedia's policies, I think. Starixxgamerrix (talk) 02:10, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@WhereverWeAreNow you are supposed to ask questions at the Teahouse, not a life coach, see on Wikipedia's policies of what Wikipedia is not Starixxgamerrix (talk) 02:12, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not arguing though? Just clearing things up WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 02:25, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t want to get banned either… WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 02:34, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry if that happens to you many times, Idk what is happening either... Starixxgamerrix (talk) 02:16, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If either you feel I acted out of order, you're free to continue this discussion at WP:ANI. Other than that, please post nothing more about this here on my user talk page, unless you're notifying me of an ANI discussion as required. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:50, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm sorry if we are bothering u. We will discuss this later at the ANI Starixxgamerrix (talk) 02:54, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
why not? Is it because you don’t want your page to be clogged up or because you hate me and want me gone? WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 03:02, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
uhm no and why would I want u gone? Starixxgamerrix (talk) 03:02, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
and I don't hate Starixxgamerrix (talk) 03:04, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not being bothered you per se. It's just that there's nothing more I can add about this other than what I've posted above, and I want to avoid having my user talk page be filled up with posts like this, this and this. So, please go interact with each other somewhere else before one of you (particularly WheneverWeAreNow) goes too far and gets hit with a WP:NOTHERE block. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:06, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then tell me where else to go. I’m sick and tired of being banned from every place imaginable, I just want to participate like everyone else. And there’s nothing wrong with what you linked. My conversations are already being shut down left and right (”archiving is just locking and it’s making me mad) so I can tell I’m not welcome here, like everyone else…WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 03:13, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly and @WhereverWeAreNow guys just stop please Starixxgamerrix (talk) 03:16, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Im tired of this arguing Starixxgamerrix (talk) 03:16, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Over one topic, I'm just tired of it, I was trying to help and this conversation has gotten out of control, so... Just Stop! Please... Starixxgamerrix (talk) 03:20, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You’re upset yet you put extremely upsetting content in your user boxes and just that alone makes me more upset than you ever will.

I made her mad and it’s all my fault… WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 03:29, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

what no I don't do that... just stop Starixxgamerrix (talk) 03:31, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ShawnPatrickStarry (00:36, 10 April 2024)[edit]

How do I make a page on myself? --ShawnPatrickStarry (talk) 00:36, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ShawnPatrickStarry. It's not clear what you mean by make a page on myself. Do you mean make a Wikipedia article about yourself? Do you mean create an Wikipedia userpage about yourself? There are different policies and guidelines associated with each, so please take a look at the following general information pages. For information about how to create a Wikipedia article, please read Wikipedia:Autobiography, Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest, Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing and Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. For information about how to create a Wikipedia userpage, please read Wikipedia:User pages and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. If after looking at those pages you still have questions, feel free to ask them here, at Wikipedia:Help desk or Wikipedia:Teahouse. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:56, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
