I appreciate you taking the time to discuss this rather than quickly reverting the reverts! My main concern was that the exact same text was inserted into four different articles (Quetiapine - diff, Clozapine - diff, Risperidone diff, and Ziprasidone diff). If the information does apply to all four, perhaps the information should be placed in atypical antipsychotic along with any necessary exclusions. IE: "4 of the atypical antipsychotics, www, xxx, yyy, and zzz, have the following issues rasied:"

I looked up the first reference you noted (PMID 1565705) on Google Scholar and found an interesting article that calls into question many of the possible conclusions that your edit proposes: What Did the WHO Studies Really Find? -- Schizophrenia Bulletin So I wonder about the validity of the remainder of the references.

I also think that the criticism sections should have come later in the article; it seems that most articles place criticism sections later in the article.

Beyond these points, the points you bring up are interesting and informative; if the tone was lightened up a little, perhaps more people may consider the information rather than immediately discount it.

Hi. The issue that concerns me primarily is that there is nothing but positive information on the wiki pages for all of these drugs. However, this is far from an accurate reflection of the way they are seen in the academy and by mental health advocates. Reading the talk page for seroquel I learned that the article was subject of a news story for biased editing by the drug company. Since many people will read these pages who are considering taking these drugs, I believe it is important to show the full range of cautions. Neuroleptics as a class of drugs are considered dangerous by several noted academics, journalists, and mental health advocates. They are being phased out of use in Scandinavia. The drug companies spend billions of dollars each year for marketing, and most of the positive studies can be linked to their funding. My hope is that people be fully informed prior to taking them due to the withdrawal side effects. How do you recommend I proceed?

Hello. In addition to MeekMark's well thought-out comments, I would like to add a few. The proposition that “these medications ... can ... lead to the growth of new dopamine receptors over time” is news to me. However, it seems to be based on claims in the book “Mad in America: Bad Science, Bad Medicine, and the Enduring Mistreatment of the Mentally Ill.” Anyone can say anything in a book. A reference to the primary literature is needed.

Also it is not true “there is nothing but positive information” in Wikipedia regarding these drugs. The quetiapine page contains the following negative statements: 1. “quetiapine was found to make cognitive functioning worse in elderly patients with dementia”, 2. the article lists akathisia as a side affect and the akathisia page describes this side affect as “chemical torture” and 3. “The rare, but life-threatening, neuroleptic malignant syndrome may also result from quetiapine use.”

In addition, it does not follow from the fact that these drugs harm some people that they harm everyone. It is important to show respect for the rights of individuals who can benefit from these drugs.

Postcrypto's main point appears to be that mentally ill individuals are being mistreated. I certainly agree with this proposition. [1] There is already a stub for Mad in America on Wikipedia. Thank you for the help on the migraine surgery and edits. I added an external link to the department of plastic surgery. I think this would be more formal and not considered advertisement etc since it’s a university. I also wanted to include the American Migraine Center since its one of the major institutions specializing in migraine surgery. What do you think?

Wikipedia articles, and specially a FA as multiple sclerosis should rely on secondary sources which in the case of medical articles are peer-reviewed reviews in reliable journals.(See WP:MEDRS) Your addition is a primary source and gives most probably undue-weight to a characteristic that is prone to occur in MS. Hi, I undid your change to “ASCII” because I think using redirects to link to sections makes the link easier to remember and easier to maintain if somebody moves the section around, and because there is a guideline that says WP:Don't fix links to redirects that are not broken (itself a section redirect to WP:Redirect#Do not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken).
