GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive[edit]

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:00, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive[edit]

Hello! Just a friendly reminder that the GAN Backlog Drive has begun and will end on December 31, 2013!

If you know anyone outside of the WikiProject that may be interested, feel free to invite them to the drive!

If you have any questions or want to comment about something regarding the drive, post them here--EdwardsBot (talk) 23:55, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive[edit]

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive[edit]

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup[edit]

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup[edit]

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

Dusty Rhodes[edit]

Thanks for the help! I've been chipping away at it slowly and it's kind of sad that his role as a non-regular wrestler was so incredibly detailed (I chopped it down before you got to it) but his active career section has little detail (with some things like his feud with Flair and the Midnight Rider being mentioned almost in passing). Nickname numbering[edit]

I respectively disagree, but am curious, how many times do you think a nickname needs to be used before you consider it a nickname? Ranze (talk) 04:24, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

In most wrestler articles I do not see 3rd party sources mentioning the nickname. For example at The Undertaker#In wrestling "The Phenom" and "The Deadman" and "The Last Outlaw" all merely link to his WWE.com profile, isn't that a 2nd party source? Ranze (talk) 09:03, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you recognize that 'last outlaw' was used during one of his feuds though. Instead of immediately removing a nickname not mentioned in a source, I think it would be valuable for us to instead let it remain but fact-tag it for a while to give people a chance to find the source.

If you simply remove it then people don't even know to look for one, and unless you're keeping track of what's removed on the talk page, the chance to look it up is lost.

I think for something as simple as a nickname we do not need 3rd party sources. That level of proof is needed to interpret data, like what is the 'most popular' nickname, or something like that. Simply that something WAS a nickname is not an interpretation, even a primary source should be enough to make note of it. Ranze (talk) 10:13, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How many times was Summer Rae called "First Lady of NXT" though? The PWinsider and Pro Wrestling Torch references only establish its use in 2 consecutive events. Does that mean if I hear 'submissive summer' or 'sweet summer' or something along those lines, it would be adequate? Ranze (talk) 12:09, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Jiro Kuroshio[edit]

Hi, just a courtesy note to say I have removed the proposed deletion notice from the above article. I can't blame you for nominating the article in the condition it was in. It is not the first time I have come across that editor's work. I have translated the biography from the Japanese wikipedia, so we now have something legible to work with. Unfortunately, of the references used in the Japanese article, only one is available online so a lot of it appears unsourced. On the other hand, his name does receive more than 100 google news hits. They may be just passing mentions, but I think it deserves more scrutiny at an AFD rather than a PROD. P.S. If you ever come across similar articles about Japanese wrestlers in the future, drop me a line and I'll have a go at cleaning it up. Regards, AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 07:17, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Roddy Piper[edit]

Being ill is fundamentally different from being dead. The death section also includes tons of information which is about the reactions to his death as well as his funeral and tributes, which has absolutely nothing nothing to do at all with his personal life whatsoever. I have no idea what you mean by "helps distinguish it as real". Why on gods earth would anyone assume a section way beneath his performans career would be non-real?★Trekker (talk) 02:33, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could we please keep this discussion confined to one talkpage please? It's impossible to have a conversation when there is comments on the different places.
As for your points, I don't see what other articles have to do with this situation. If there is enough information to fill a section there might as well be a section. I don't see what need there is to have a stone hard policy regardign this when it's definitely a case by case situation. In Pipers case it seems to me to make much more sense for it to not be a subsection of the personal life section.
"Being ill leads to being dead in most case" this is fundamentally untrue. People can be ill or sick many times, you only die once, which is definitive and irreversible. Many illnesses don't lead death.★Trekker (talk) 02:59, 21 March 2017 (UTC) PS I did not see your edit to the comment before I wrote this. Hi, I am a Wikipedia editor, and I just read some of the information that you supply and I am very impressed as you seem to know a lot as you are very well sourced with your info, can you please help with some current problems that I am having with Wikipedia right now? (being I need to know how to restore pages that were unnecessarily merged with other pages and shouldn't have been as they should be stand alone articles). Also think of the people who spend all their time making those articles and all for nothing just to see their work go right down the drain. Also just like you I am a wrestling fan and have written articles on wrestlers as well. Davidgoodheart (talk) 07:54, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I hope Nikki311 is ok with me giving input on their talkpage, (sorry if you think it's inappropriate Nikki).
Hi, Davidgoodheart, the thing is that we can't keep an article just because you, me, or anyone else has put a lot of effort into it or are very proud of it. One of the articles that I've made is most likely going to be deleted soon and it probably won't even be merged. You just kind of have to deal with it even if it's disappointing.★Trekker (talk) 12:31, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Davidgoodheart: The very nature of Wikipedia is that other people can change, merge, or delete your articles and unfortunately sometimes that means your hard work goes down the drain. If you have a question about a specific article, please link to it, and I can probably give you more information. Nikki311 12:35, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help on sourcing and organizing the Draft:WhatCulture Pro Wrestling[edit]

Hi Nikki

I need your help currently I'm making Draft article of WhatCulture pro wrestling and I wanted to make an at least a good article, but I don't know if it is well organized or if it has notability enough under the WP:PW/RS, so could you help on organizing and sourcing the article?

Thanks for the time

TheBuilder456 (talk) 22:52, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@TheBuilder456: Before I say anything, I think it is important to note that this page was recently deleted via community consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/What Culture Pro Wrestling, so this draft may not become an article for a long while. With that said, I will give you come pointers to help improve the article in the meantime. First of all, the page is kind of busy, I think that leaving off the tournaments might be a good place to start. A list of winners is fine, but all those brackets seems overboard. Second of all, not all of the sources listed at WP:PW/RS prove notability as they are industry specific and report mostly WP:ROUTINE results (ex: CageMatch). The websites listed under "Mainstream" will help prove notability if they have significant coverage of the subject (not just match results). Adding more mainstream sources is the only way to help prove notability. Nikki311 01:44, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Fab Moolah and Richter.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Fab Moolah and Richter.JPG. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.

changing profile picture[edit]

Hello, I was asked to change Ashley Massaro's profile picture on here as she doesn't like the one she has now. I did and it was changed back, just wondering if the picture up now could be changed to something else as she herself as said she doesn't like that one.. Your edit to the list of YouTubers[edit]

Hi, I just noticed that in your edit of the list of YouTubers you overwrote two existing entries in the list. Was that intentional, and if so what was your rationale? Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 20:37, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Hiromu[edit]

"It is WP:OR to just see a move and describe it as different (unless you are an "expert in the field"; or even if it is obviously the case). Wikipedia isn't always about commonsense, unfortunately. Nikki♥311 00:21, 1 August 2017 (UTC)"

I understand, and remember, the logic of this stuff but it really is complete nonsense when OR applies to things with everyones own eyes. Years and years ago I got in a wiki fight with someone over Chris Hero of all things who made up false descriptions of moves based on their names, and was guessing what they were - most memorably Rubiks Cube they kept changing to Octopus Hold.

The problem was the Rubiks Cube is an electric chair driver, and no amount of being told it was OR from using video to show that changed the situation. It's OR extended perversely. Like I said I'm older now and have the perspective to not fight on Hiromu Takahashi over a wrong description, based on sources that are google translated from Japanese, but it is frustrating that wikipedia has become the respository of move lists on the internet and thus there are no other sources for moves (nor was there before wikipedia, it was assumed knowledge) so you end up in weird cases like this. –– Lid(Talk) 05:40, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Josh Lewis wrestler page[edit]

Josh Lewis wrestler page does meet criteria Hello Nikki. Just looking over everything here. And it seems to me that this page does meet criteria for professional wrestling. I do agree with you that it doesn't meet criteria in bodybuilding. References are very good examples Pro Wrestling illustrated. NWA website. As well as various other sources. I have no affiliates will NWA or anyone else. But I've done a lot of editing on this page. I was proud of the work I've done. I've noticed you delete a lot of NWA pages. I know what haven't spoken in a while, but I'm here to ask a favor: I'm trying to get nominated to become an administrator and since you and I are friends, I was hoping that maybe you could nominate me. You don't have to give me an answer right away. You can take your time and think about it, but I hope you say that you'll nominate me. I hope to hear from you soon, friend. The King Gemini (talk) 23:19, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@King Gemini: Why do you want to be an administrator, and what do you hope to accomplish? Nikki311 01:18, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I want to be an administrator not for my own personal gain, but because I am a natural born leader. What I hope to accomplish is to make sure that the rules apply to everyone and not just certain users. There's more, but I can't think of what I had prepared to say. But what I put is it good so far? The King Gemini (talk) 01:28, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@King Gemini: I'm going to decline. I see you were recently in an edit war, and one of the biggest expectations of an administrator is that they can work well with others and help solve disputes. Keeping a list of users who you don't like makes it seem you like you won't be fair and impartial. In addition, as far as I can tell, you have little experience participating in policy discussions, AfD, and writing Good or Featured Content. You can nominate yourself, but I don't recommend you do that at this time. Work on these areas, and try again in the future. Nikki311 03:08, 16 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WWE HOF assessment[edit]

Hey, just wondering why you changed the HOF event articles to a list assessment, such as [1]? Looking at the article itself WWE Hall of Fame (2017) it focuses on the event itself and then the list is further down, after the event section. - GalatzTalk 13:32, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Galatz: The list is the most important part if the article. In my opinion, all the inductors can be added as a separate column in the table. With few exceptions, the information about what they talked about during their acceptance speeches is fluff and should be deleted. If more information about the event was added like ratings, venue, reception, etc. that would make these more like articles than lists. For example, I left WWE Hall of Fame (2014) as C-class because it had the most developed prose (the "Aftermath"). But overall, it won't hurt my feelings if you change it back. Nikki311 15:42, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, the way I am trying to expand the articles, its making the article about the event itself rather than just the class. Based on the discussions prior to breaking it out, that seemed to me to be the more notable thing, was the event, not the list of people. In 2018 for example it has a background section rather than just the list. I haven't had a chance to watch the ceremony yet, but when I do I will add an event section. I know these articles all still need more work, so perhaps once they are done, and more like 2014, we can revisit. - GalatzTalk 16:00, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not stepping into the move discussion but...[edit]

If I wanted to get involved again I'd be on the side of defenders and bringing them in. Years ago I argued that the moves in wrestling are part of the story and to remove them is to remove direct aspects of the sport/entertainment. Pro wrestling is a carnie combination of entertainment and it occupies an odd area, but being in an odd area doesn't mean it's wrong or a walled garden.

Oh and seeing the Zack Sabre stuff someone kept removing my source, https://twitter.com/zacksabrejr/status/946509572524662784?lang=en no idea why –– Lid(Talk) 19:59, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Devon Moore and others[edit]

Hi. I see Devon Moore has been deleted. Can you give me your opinion about these wrestlers? They are similar to Moore, just worked in CZW/OVW. Kenny Bolin Niles Young Jamin Olivencia --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 16:02, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. I'm busy at the moment, but I'll take a look and let you know my thoughts. Nikki311 23:38, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@HHH Pedrigree: Bolin seems not notable to me. Most of the information about him online is routine results, random podcast appearances, and his self-published book. Young also has mostly routine and primary coverage, so I would also deem him not notable. Olivencia, however, is probably borderline notable. He just did a quick search and found some coverage [2], [3], and [4]. So that combined with his stunt/TV/film/theater work and his professional wrestling career...I think he passes WP:ENTERTAINER. Hi, Nikki. If you see carefully, the second source describes the F5 as Lesnar's finisher. "after kicking out of four F5 finishers from Brock Lesnar". The first one is for the technical description. Proposing a new article to replace a redirect you put up[edit]

Hey there! I posted a question over at the Wikipedia help desk, and User:Orangemike said you were the person to get in touch with. So, back in 2007 you merged Rib (professional wrestling) into Glossary of professional wrestling terms. The way you described the article and its examples was "cruft." I had to look that up! Anyway, I've never written an article before but I saw an old (2005) post on the glossary's talk page that suggested someone write an article on ribbing. I knew other wrestling terms have gotten their own articles (like Heel and Face, for example) and I knew I could find plenty of sources - so, long story short, I wrote the article. I didn't realize at the time, though, that if a redirect has been put in place, you can't just delete the redirect and submit your new article. I assume the article back then was poorly written and poorly cited. Mine is not, so at least that won't be an issue. I also made a serious effort to write it in a narrative, encyclopedic manner instead of just making it a list. I don't know if you think it's too much of a ... niche subject (but hell, we have plenty of articles on much more obscure topics on here), but I think that my article is of Wikipedia quality and is definitely preferable to the 9 words ribbing is given in the Glossary. I posted the article I wrote in my Sandbox, maybe you'd like to look at it? I hope it's up to the standards I think it is, and that my 5 hours of Internet research and writing weren't in vain! "Yes...It's Raining" 00:09, 26 July 2020 (UTC) I’ve looked at the history of the original rib article and it was a poorly cited list before being redirected in 2007 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rib_(professional_wrestling)&diff=141685290&oldid=140944427. Also, could you link to the sandbox entry since that would help in determining if it’s meets the standards to be an aricle? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.157.254.92 (talk) 06:01, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm sorry. You can go to this link for my sandbox and see it as I see it, right? I'm also having this discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Professional_wrestling, so let's talk there as much as possible so we're not having a convo on Nikki311's Talk Page (Nikki311, I brought my proposal there since I didn't know when I'd hear back from you, feel free to answer here or there whenever you want or get a chance).
I've replied there. Nikki311 08:55, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review[edit]

In 2019 you participated in a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Plastique Tiara, which resulted in a consensus to redirect to RuPaul's Drag Race (season 11). I have now taken the article to deletion review, at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2022 September 28#Plastique Tiara. I am informing everyone who participated in the deletion discussion, except two indef-blocked accounts and an IP address which last edited two years ago, in case they would like to contribute to the deletion review.
