Missing history?[edit]

Hi, Scott. I'm hoping you can help me with another history investigation. At some point in February I created Draft:Untitled Suicide Squad spinoff series, and then in May, I created a separate draft at Draft:Untitled Amanda Waller series. The two were related, but it wasn't clear that they were the same topic. The two were later merged when it seemed they were the same subject, but then they were split again. I am trying to find the history that used to be at the first article, but it seems to just point me to the latter. When I check the logs, though, it doesn't look like Draft:Untitled Amanda Waller series has a deletion logged (such as from a G6 move), nor can I find a deleted listing on XTools, so I'm confused where it went. Is it possible to move over draft histories without leaving a deletion log entry and have some kind of hidden history interwoven behind the non-deleted content? Are you able to see anything like that as an admin? Do you think you would able to help me find this history in the event that a history merge or split is needed? Thanks for any help you can offer. -2pou (talk) 23:06, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, @Scott, the other page involved is Draft:Untitled The Suicide Squad spin-off, where I thought it was moved to back in Feb. That probably would have been a relevant link to include. -2pou (talk) 05:31, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@2pou: I'm not Scott, but I'm just passing by while doing some relevant link-fixing, inspired by a bizarre history merge I found thanks to this news story. The February 2022 page history is at Draft:Untitled Suicide Squad spinoff series and the May 2022 history is now at Draft:Untitled The Suicide Squad spin-off series, after this page move. Re the former history, the history of a redirect is behind the link on a "Redirected from ..." notice. Graham87 04:24, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@2pou and Graham87: Hey, I've just seen this. Thanks Graham, sterling work as always!  — Scott talk 23:22, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Graham87 and Scott: Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. It looks like I had to look back one more page move in the history to find Draft:Untitled The Suicide Squad spinoff series actually started in January 2022. These have had quite a confusing history to them, but now that I found them, I tried to make a crude representation of the histories below. Are one of you able to bring these histories back together? There looks to be a slight overlap in May 2022 that might make a simple move not work. Thanks! -2pou (talk) 03:36, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Current page location Revision dates What happened
Draft:Untitled The Suicide Squad spinoff series 28-Jan-2022 - 3-May-2022

Belongs with Draft:Untitled The Suicide Squad spin-off series

Mistakenly redirected the Suicide Squad topic to a different topic at Draft:Untitled Amanda Waller series with Special:Diff/1086135803)
Draft:Untitled The Suicide Squad spin-off series 3-May-22 to 3-Jun-2022

Belongs with Draft:Untitled Amanda Waller series

26-Jun-22 to 7-Jan-23 Mistakenly changed the Amanda Waller topic to the Suicide Squad topic in this edit Special:Diff/1095059987 instead of restoring the prior history.
Draft:Untitled Amanda Waller series 26-Jun-22 to 7-Jan-23 Original history mistakenly moved away to a new location in this move Special:Diff/1095057856)
I don't think there are any straight cut-and-paste moves in these page histories (i.e. all the text having been cut into another article), so I don't think a history merge/move is appropriate here ... but I'm fairly conservative regarding these things. Graham87 08:47, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Graham87, I understand. Well, thank you for taking the time to look! -2pou (talk) 15:35, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

History undeletion[edit]

Hi, Scott. Would you please be so kind as to recover the old revisions of "Super Mario 63"? Regards, Elominius (talk) 09:08, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Elominius, I've restored the article and moved it to be one of your subpages at User:Elominius/Super Mario 63. The most recent revision is a redirect. Best,  — Scott talk 10:16, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is very kind of you, Scott. I have also seen that you have undeleted the history of some pages such as Justin Bieber for wikiarchaeology purposes. Have a barnstar. ☺ Elominius (talk) 12:36, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Scott, for making ancient page histories available to wiki archaeologists. Elominius (talk) 12:37, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why was Super Mario 63 userfied?[edit]

It's just a redirect. The former content can be copied into userspace from the history without the end result being deletion of a redirect that was accepted at WP:AFC/R and that page protection was removed to create. Am I allowed to recreate the redirect? I don't know, I'm not active enough here. No valid reason has been given for deletion, so I'm leaning on the side of Hitchens's razor, and restoring it.

(Sorry if this comes off aggressive – something weird is affecting my mood IRL and I'm not making good judgment on what comments are fine and what aren't. I'll strike it if anything's out of line, and you're free to wipe the comment as a whole.) Skarmory (talk • contribs) 20:17, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Skarmory, I was just about to move the page back into article space with the redirect being the most recent revision, but noticed you re-created the redirect. I recommend overwriting the redirect you created and moving the redirect page with the original revision history from 2010 back into article space so anyone interested can find the 2010 revisions under the original title. Since you have the extended mover user right which includes delete-redirect (move pages over existing single revision redirects regardless of target), you should be able to do it (shortcut). Alright, apparently I'm a klutz and managed to move it to User:Super Mario 63, and then delete-redirect just decided not to give me a yes/no on the "Are you sure you want to delete this page by overwriting" or whatever that message was. I still got it back to Super Mario 63 – let me know if anything's wrong, or feel free to trout me, because I feel like I deserve one today. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:41, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No need to stress out, my friend. 😊
Could you please also move User_talk:Elominius/Super_Mario_63 to Talk:Super_Mario_63 and overwrite the redirect I left because I don't have suppressredirect? And watch that drop-down menu this time. 😉 Elominius (talk) 22:48, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Found the missing yes/no for deleteredirect, it's next to the other checkboxes, don't know why I didn'tthink of that. Anyway, move should be good to go, this time with attention paid to the drop down menu. :) Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:51, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well done, Skarmory. Elominius (talk) 23:00, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi both, following the link Elominus provided in their section above this to the deleted revisions of that article, I misread it as having been entirely deleted. Sorry! Thanks Skarmory for fixing my mess-up. No worries about the tone of your message, I hope your mood improves soon.  — Scott talk 21:09, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't mind, could you please update File:Yearly change in number of admins on the English Wikipedia.png? It's two years out of date. Thanks QueenofHearts 06:25, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, thanks for the reminder! Stuff got in the way of last year's update and I just never got around to it. Done!  — Scott talk 15:24, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
