Thank youPaleoNeonate! It's a lot to learn (including figuring out the ways to quickly edit, cite, link and reference), and I'm working to take it in as fast as I can. Those links will be very helpful!Snapdginger (talk) 21:26, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome, and nothing is urgent on Wikipedia, as it's always a work in progress, of course. —PaleoNeonate – 22:37, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Paleo. I joined Wiki because I thought I could have a lot to offer in my area of expertise, but also because of my training in evaluating medical evidence and studies.

My first foray was into my own area: optometry. Coming up against another editor who staunchly refused to have any type of educated discourse, and made repeated punitive edits to the topic that violated the neutral point of view has soured my view of the process. I don’t know why I thought wiki wouldn’t have issues with ego and bullying, but I did.

Could you give the [vision therapy] page a read and let me know if I’m really way off base here?

If the circular logic and other tactics used in that talk page are really representative of the wiki approach, it would be helpful to know.

@Paleoneonate:. I realized it doesn’t tag you when I’m on my phone. Snapdginger (talk) 05:26, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Important message[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

reply:PaleoNeonate I really appreciate this and would like to take you up on the offer of appropriate edits and neutrality. I'm also struggling with a user who will use a source as reliable when convenient, but refutes them when the same source has a point counter to their narrative. This is evident on the Vision Therapy Page. I'm super conscious of not being a SPA (I'd like to be able to contribute more after this), but the inn-accuracy and lack of neutrality is what spurred me on to take the time to learn wiki.

Any chance you could read some of the back and forth? I realize I made a few mistakes initially with editing (I have since learned). Also, I'd like to find a way to ensure users I am not biased just because of my education and profession. Eg: A lot of vision therapy claims are quackery, but many are evidence based and it needs to be a more neutral explanation.Snapdginger (talk) 03:03, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was not aware of this question until just now. I think that so far you've done right to post at article talk pages and suggest sources. It's unnecessary to personalize or to accuse sources that recall of the mainstream view however (WP:FOC). For more input about a specific source in a specific context, WP:RSN (where I first noticed you) was also the right place. As for the message above it's a notice to all editors editing in the area of course (including myself, and the notice is usually renewed every 12 months, unless {{ds/aware}} is found at the top of this page acknowledging the previous reception). —PaleoNeonate – 23:39, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to sign talk page posts[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. —PaleoNeonate – 20:09, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
