The 1964 United States presidential election in Tennessee took place on November 3, 1964, as part of the 1964 United States presidential election . Tennessee voters chose 11[ 1] representatives, or electors, to the Electoral College , who voted for president and vice president .
Goldwater was an opponent of the Tennessee Valley Authority and stated that it "was a big fat sacred New Deal cow". He received significant criticism for this statement and later wrote that "You would have thought I had just shot Santa Claus" about the response. Peter O'Donnell , a financial backer of Goldwater's campaign, wrote a memo criticizing Goldwater for "shooting from the hip" and "kicking a sleeping dog".
