The 68th Jaeger Brigade "Oleksa Dovbush" (Ukrainian: 68-ма окрема єгерська бригада імені Олекси Довбуша) is a brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 2022.[3]

History

[edit]

The Brigade's units are designed to conduct combat operations in forest and swampy areas, and are staffed by military personnel with experience in combat operations or with civilian activities related to the specifics of the Brigade.[4]

During the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive, the brigade took part in the Eastern Ukraine campaign in the Donetsk Oblast, Lyman direction.[5] On 11 June 2023 the brigade, alongside several territorial defence battalions, took the village of Blahodatne marking the first settlement to be liberated by Ukrainian forces during the counteroffensive.[1][6][7]

As of September 2024, the brigade was still in Donetsk Oblast, defending the front against the Russian offensive. It had fought and lost the battle for Novohrodivka, suffering "a lot of losses" according to a commander.[8]
