The American University of Bahrain (Arabic: الجامعة الأمريكية بالبحرين, abbreviated AUBH) is a private university situated in Riffa, Bahrain. Opened in September 2019 and licensed by the Higher Education Council of Bahrain, it is the first purpose-built American-model university in the country. AUBH is licensed by the Higher Education Council of the Ministry of Education of Bahrain. Dr. Bradley J. Cook is the current AUBH President.
The university is governed by a board of trustees.[1]
Academic leadership at (AUBH)
[edit]AUBH is the first comprehensive, purpose-built, American-model co-educational University in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is supported through the Mumtalakat portfolio. By the autumn season of 2019 when the university first opened, Dr. Susan E. Saxton was appointed as the founding president and first president since the university opened the campus.
Dr. Susan E. Saxton an experienced higher education leader having decades of experience in higher education in the U.S, Capella University by 1999 founding dean of the school of business and technology, and Lynn University 2002, Walden University 2006, University of St. Augustine 2015. Dr. Bradley J. Cook entered the role of the second president and higher education leader of AUBH and recently as president of Snow College, Ephraim, Utah.
In November 2021, AUBH announced the finalization of an academic partnership with California State University, Northridge (CSUN), part of the largest university system in the U.S.: California State University. CSUN in the city of Los Angeles accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.[2] This partnership is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain.[3]
Campus
[edit]The university's 75,000-square-metre (19-acre) campus is located in Bahrain's Southern Governorate, in Riffa. It was designed by US-based architects Ayers Saint Gross to accommodate up to 4,000 students and includes a library, four academic buildings each three storeys high, and an auditorium seating 250. The built-up area of campus totals 22,865 square metres (5.650 acres); there are 878 parking spaces.[4][5][6]
The sports center is located opposite the football field, consists of two floors, sports hall, nursing room, coach reception, located at the bottom. At the top floor is the fitness environment, treadmills, weights.
Accreditation
[edit]AUBH is licensed by t.e Higher Education Council[7] of the Ministry of Education of Bahrain.
On 3 June 2021, a WSCUC panel reviewed the appropriate eligibility criteria and determined that the institution is eligible to proceed with an Application for Accreditation.[8] In March 2023, the university formally gained full WASC accreditation.[9]
