Thanks

[edit]

Just want to give you a personal thanks for your additions and revisions to the page for the Journey album, Revelation. Always nice to see fellow contributors. 4RM0 (talk) 13:02, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to thank you for your very detailed response to my unnecessary edit on One and Only (Miho Nakayama album). I am still learning to become a better editor and feedback like this helps *quite* a bit. Jake (talk) 21:53, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:27, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note

[edit]

You may want to take a look at three images you uploaded, File:VF-1S-Strike-Valkyrie-02.jpg, File:VF-1S-Strike-Valkyrie-01.jpg, and File:VF-1S-Strike-Valkyrie-03.jpg, then take a look at how they fall under Template:Non-free 3D art. These images don't qualify for release under a free license unless you get the permission of the manufacturer of the toys. However, they do qualify for fair use, as the aforementioned template states. I was made aware of these photos as a result of a request in the IRC wikipedia help chat, so any questions can be directed towards me (on my talk page), #wikipedia-en-help connect, or via Template:Helpme. Thanks, Ks0stm If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. 17:20, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What's the tag code for said template? - Areaseven (talk) 00:20, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is explained in Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline, but to be honest, it is usually easier to find another, similar image and see how they did it. For example, File:Ultramagnus-universe3.jpg, File:Armada-thundercracker-zapmaster.jpg. Note, you will need to use a {{Non-free 3D art}} thingy and a {{Non-free use rationale}}. Hope that helps; if you need more help with it, put a {{helpme}} on this page, or talk to us live, with this.  Chzz  ►  15:00, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, dude. There will probably be no end to Jaja Delera's hoaxing here (or any site that has to do with cars, trucks, planes and Filipino celebs). Still, he seems to have a promising career as a politician or tabloid journalist. - Areaseven (talk) 05:38, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Areaseven

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Jajadelera

[edit]

It's good to see that Jajadelera is once again trying to remove the blocknotices and warnings on User talk:124.6.181.60 because it shows that our blocks (including a probable range block on his normal range of IP addresses) are hitting him and preventing him from editing/vandalising WP. Thomas.W talk to me 09:25, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, but for him to stay in one IP address is very uncharacteristic of him. Something's not right. - Areaseven (talk) 09:26, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have atleast a couple of hundred car related articles on my watchlist (out of almost 2,000 articles on the list...), including what I believe is every article Jajadelera has vandalised so far, so his chances for evading detection are very slim. Even if he gets a new range of IPs to operate from. Thomas.W talk to me 09:40, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think it's advisable to create a Long-term abuse report on him, or is it too early? Also, based on his numerous Facebook pages, he may have a legitimate mental issue (possibly autism, like Bertrand101?). - Areaseven (talk) 10:09, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would probably wait a bit before making a long term abuse report, and I wouldn't speculate about mental issues since we know very little, if anything, about him as a person. In theory atleast the Jajadelera on Facebook could be a totally different person. All we know is that "our" Jajadelera has an obnoxious habit of vandalising Wikipedia. Thomas.W talk to me 10:16, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, it's the same guy. All of Jajadelera's Facebook pages have nothing but bus pictures. - Areaseven (talk) 10:48, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You shouldn't speculate too much about that, even though it seems very probable. Until Jajadelera hemiself clearly admits on Wikipedia to being the guy on Facebook we have to treat them as separate individuals, otherwise we might violate the rules about outing. Rules that clearly state that posting someone's contact information, whether any such information is accurate or not, is harassment. And Facebook pages will most probably be seen as contact information. Just a piece of friendly advice. Thomas.W talk to me 11:17, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think he needs to admit to anything. Just look at the pages below. - Areaseven (talk) 11:26, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

His various other sites definitely pass the ducktest. Since he is so very generous in sharing himself I am not super worried about "outing" him, but I agree that this should only be used as supporting evidence and not bandied about all over the place. I think it is of some relevance in a block discussion. Meanwhile, I am back in school so I won't be able to spend much time on this. Cheers,  Mr.choppers | ✎  00:10, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jajadelera socks

[edit]

Hello. Please don't add a "suspected sockpuppet" tag to Jajadelera socks before each sock has been blocked. I deliberately never do it, because it only makes Jajadelera discard his socks and create new ones. It's better to have him believe that he hasn't been detected yet, both because he creates fewer socks then and because continued edits provide more evidence for the SPIs. His latest sock, User:AvangeJD seems to have already been discarded by him after seeing the tag. Thomas.W talk to me 14:09, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe, but he'll know that his edits are being reverted every time he logs in via the Notifications counter. So regardless of whether or not his sock has been tagged, he's well aware that we're watching him - Areaseven (talk) 15:24, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Being reverted is not the same as being revealed as a sock, the former is just a temporary setback while the latter means an indefinite block. Thomas.W talk to me 15:26, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do you suppose he's reading our conversation right now? - Areaseven (talk) 15:27, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No. I don't think he's that smart. Thomas.W talk to me 15:45, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Areaseven. I noticed that you were placing "related users" info on various IP talk pages. I think that is useful. Some of those IPs are related to this list User:MarnetteD/Burton-on-Trent Vandal that I started a couple years ago. Now this might not be the same person that you are tracking but I thought I would let you know about it just in case. Thanks for your efforts and vigilance. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 15:10, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've been using that format for years, but at this point, I think we should open a sockpuppet investigation. - Areaseven (talk) 23:19, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. While I have filed a few reports over the years I haven't dealt with one that is solely populated by IPs. This editor goes back so far that I don't know how we would find a starting point. You might ask the editor who got Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Voice Cast Vandal going. OTOH if you know what you want to do please proceed. You can always point to the page I started to help explain to admins just how long this has been going on. Best regards. Many thanks. I am glad to have the link to the SPI. I either missed it or forgot about it so it is great to be able to refer to it. Cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 02:27, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Location of IP addresses by the LTA

[edit]

While your theory of this reasoning about this mass vandalism by the LTA re static range IPs seems reasonable, mine was that I was thinking that the LTA may have moved countries to Indonesia since the Philippines were under a typhoon on the island Manila is in. I don't know what the definition of static and dynamic is and I always thought that IP addresses used by everyone is located on their home places. However, I've noticed that User:Zzuuzz has blocked one of the IP addresses giving the reason "blocked proxy", another thing I don't know about. Iggy (Swan) 20:24, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, MRY has been occasionally using open proxies for the last few weeks. Open proxies are IP addresses which can be used by anyone in the world. There's no indication they've moved - they're still editing from their home ranges. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:37, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with User:Zzuuzz about the open proxy theory. I also suspect that MRY is autistic or has a condition within the autism spectrum, as I faced a similar case years ago. - Areaseven (talk) 02:58, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for Page Protection

[edit]

Hi, Areaseven! I see that you still dealing with that prolific sockmaster My Royal Young. Today you placed a request at Requests for page protection that I don't understand. I have declined it there, and let's figure it out here. Your request was to full-protect a redirect, Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum. As far as I can tell, you created that redirect yourself yesterday. (A few days earlier it had been created as a vandalism page by one of the sock accounts and had been speedy deleted.) I don't understand why you created it, or why you are asking for it to be protected. If you are concerned that the troll might use that title (one of his favorites), let's get the page deleted (you can tag it with {{Db-g7}} since you are the only author), and then we can create-protect it so it can't be used again. Ping me and let's figure out what to do about this. Wouldn't it be nice if that jerk would get another hobby? -- MelanieN (talk) 00:16, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I made it a redirect, as it is the name of a character in the game. What I wanted was the redirect to be protected to prevent My Royal Young from vandalizing it. - Areaseven (talk) 02:32, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that makes sense. I will full-protect it. -- MelanieN (talk) 16:01, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Static IP tagging of User talk:101.164.19.58

[edit]

Hi Areaseven! I noticed that you tagged the user talk page of 101.164.19.58 as a static IP address. I was curious and wondering... how did you locate and verify this information, and that the IP address is, indeed, static? If you could point me to the resources or documentation, or show me how you did this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been meaning to gain some additional tools and knowledge when it comes to IP users and identifying information about them (such as IP address type, whether or not its an open proxy, and other such things), and this would be a big help! :-) (Please ping me in your response so that I'm notified) Thanks! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:19, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I use What Is My IP Address and Google Maps. - Areaseven (talk) 10:21, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. I tested my own IP on whatismyip a bit ago, and it said that my assignment is "likely static". That's not true at all; my IP is totally not static at all... lol. Hence, I dismissed the information that whatismyip gave as unreliable. Really, Google Maps? How exactly does that help you determine if an IP is static vs dynamic? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:27, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's not 100% accurate (especially if the user is on a VPN), but it's useful for recording vandals who use multiple IP addresses. Once the website pulls up all vital information, I take the latitude and longitude info to Google Maps to get an approximate location. - Areaseven (talk) 10:36, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, got'cha. Thanks for the information. I appreciate it very much! :-) Happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:08, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging sockmasters

[edit]

Hi Areaseven, I'm a trainee sockpuppet investigations clerk and I reviewed Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FAFFG Gaming. I noticed that you tagged the sockmaster's userpage with a sockmaster tag. In the future, would you mind commenting on the case page if you think an account hasn't been tagged correctly rather than doing it yourself? In this case, sockmasters who are only temporarily blocked usually are not tagged as sockmasters. If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them. creffett (talk) 01:14, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, and thank you for adding the missing soundtracks. Do you suggest adding a separate listing for the original soundtrack vol.1? It contains tracks 1–35 from the first OST in the same order, and the rest 10 are differently arranged. Do you think it is notable enough to add, or would it be too repetitive? I was skeptical at first because I'd have to create a separate article for it, but since you have merged all of them into one, maybe it can be added now?
