ITN[edit]

Do not try any more attempts to get English whisky stories on ITN, you are wasting your time and that of others. Stephen 01:37, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Stephen: Ok though I disagree with the second part of your comment, the submissions were made in WP:GF and citations were provided. ChefBear01 (talk) 05:30, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Has English Whisky made the front page of any national or international news publication, in print or online, that was not specialised at least to the food and drink industry, at any point in the past 30 years? GenevieveDEon (talk) 09:55, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@GenevieveDEon:
Please see the link below dated the 15th June 2024 in the Scotsman. It is a Scottish newspaper which does not specialise in food and drink and the topic appears in the features section.

The English whisky article can list the various places English whisky is cited. (ChefBear01 (talk) 10:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Which is why I specified making the front page. I've seen features articles about it myself. But you'll notice that nothing that runs only in features sections ends up on ITN. Outside of Recent Deaths, all of the stories in ITN are have made the front page somewhere. English Whisky hasn't done that. GenevieveDEon (talk) 10:39, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GenevieveDEon:, I would disagree as the section is called in the news (ITN) and not specifically in the front page of the news. ChefBear01 (talk) ChefBear01 (talk) 11:56, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Appearing on someone's front page isn't a strictly required criterion - I'm trying to give you an idea of the kinds of stories that are included at ITN. Have you, at any point, seen a non-emergency report about any foodstuff or drink item included at ITN? Lots of things are in the papers - we don't post literary criticism or restaurant reviews either. You seem very set on promoting English Whisky, but I'd encourage you to look at how ITN is actually used in practice, and reflect on its appropriateness as a venue. GenevieveDEon (talk) 12:28, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GenevieveDEon:, my knowledge with wiki is as long a topic meets WP:NOTE it can be included on Wikipedia. There are plenty of cites on the article to support it as noteworthy in the news. ChefBear01 (talk) 14:10, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The criteria for inclusion at ITN are different from the GNG. Please read WP:ITNCRIT. To reiterate my general point: it should be obvious just from looking at ITN that we do not indiscriminately list everything that is mentioned in the news. We have not, for example, covered Taylor Swift's Eras tour, despite its considerable prominence. GenevieveDEon (talk) 14:24, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
“The two main criteria for inclusion is
  • The event can be described as "current", that is the event is appearing currently in news sources, and/or the event itself occurred within the time frame of ITN.
  • There is consensus to post the event.” ChefBear01 (talk) 10:38, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am begging you to stop trying to rules-lawyer this, and look at how ITN is actually used in practice. GenevieveDEon (talk) 19:25, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GenevieveDEon: that was not my intention at all, you can see from the snippet I have read the criteria for the ITN inclusion as you instructed. In future I can use this as a quick reference if I need it to learn from.ChefBear01 (talk) 20:17, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GenevieveDEon: the conversation could have ended 2 comments down with my reply to your initial request but you chose to pursue it, I should not have answered past that point and should have just left it at that, I am willing to backtrack and strike back to that point if you would agree as well.
It can end as it should have with a differing of opinion which is acceptable on Wikipedia and the agreement that there will not be any further submissions. ChefBear01 (talk) 06:53, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki project[edit]

@Stephen:@GenevieveDEon:@Joseph2302: I would like to invite you to Draft:WikiProject food and drink industry in England, I think your experience and knowledge would be a great help and it would be hugely appreciated. ChefBear01 (talk) 15:43, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I won't be joining, as I don't see why this hugely specific WikiProject is needed. All articles would fall under the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink, we don't need a separate WP for England. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:18, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also think that ChefBear01's biases are extremely evident in the draft page - the prominence given to English Whisky, and to drinks over food, and Adnams in particular. I'd go so far as to suggest that it casts doubt on some of the claims made elsewhere on this page. GenevieveDEon (talk) 13:37, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GenevieveDEon I tried to add relevant articles but was unsure how which food articles to include. ChefBear01 (talk) 16:56, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph2302: ok thank you for your reply. ChefBear01 (talk) 14:38, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
