Both Vary and I seem to think that if the articles are radically shortened and put in a list of 10th Kingdom characters (per WP:FICT for lesser important characters), there'd be no need for deletion. I'd even be willing to do the grunt work. Would you please return to the deletion debate and consider changing your vote to a shorten, merge and redirect into a list? - Mgm|(talk) 09:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Middle-earth tense[edit]

Thnks for your recent edits to the Middle-earth related articles. I have only one objection: using of present tense. WP:WAF indeed states that articles on fictional characters are to be written in present tense, but M-e related pages are among the few exceptions. The reason is that not a book plot is being discussed, but rather a history of a world - indeed, as JRRT himself wrote, the history of our own world. A consensus was reached on WT:Me to use past tense, and before editing pages to present the discussion at least must be renewed - though there's little hope in changing current standards. Your additions to the List of Fictional Astronauts[edit]

Thanks for your additions to the list I've tended to focus on the literary side of things and left the film/TV side of it slide. In answer to your question about the Zeus crews from Dr Who I'd suggest that you put them in the 'Futuristic' section. It's what I did with 'Hunter-Killer' where you have something that does not quite fit into the orderly sequence of things. Just remember to include both date of publication and the date the episodes are supposed to be set which is the 1980's from memory.Graham1973 (talk) 11:57, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where did you find a copy of Apollo at Go? I've been looking for it where I am for while now.Graham1973 (talk) 14:21, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I ordered Apollo at Go by inter-library loan from the Boston Public Library. Gildir (talk) 14:25, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you've changed the reference format for Apollo at Go. I'd like to propose we reformat the whole reference section (Books at least) to conform to the same format. Obviously it's going to be quite a time consuming task, so perhaps we split it?Graham1973 (talk) 02:09, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am certainly willing to work on this as time allows.  :-) Gildir (talk) 22:26, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw the changes you made, thanks for doing those. Though you did beat me to it I had planned to work on it tonight.Graham1973 (talk) 11:30, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Samuel scott leaping from a bridge.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Samuel scott leaping from a bridge.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 22:09, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this message is to let you know about disambiguation links you've recently created. Re:File:Dewey_Smith_through_viewport.jpg

Thank you for uploading free images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view your previous uploads). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading! Bulwersator (talk) 23:28, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Dewey Smith for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Dewey Smith is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dewey Smith until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 15:36, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I think it's personally acceptable for you to recommend a "keep" or "delete" article author or not. You have a say in this just as much as any editor. Feel free to change your comment into a "keep". Jauerbackdude?/dude. 00:46, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Dolgov PI.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Dolgov PI.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:08, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Middlemore[edit]

Hi Gildir, I've just started a page on Thomas Middlemore, and when I clicked on the tab 'What links here' I saw that you have made a page on him (more extensive and better than mine) but haven't uploaded it yet. Apologies. These things happen. Would you mind incorporating your material to mine? I only made the page because a user oddly linked Middlemore in the Les Droites page that I started to a page on the saddle company and I told this user that I'd start a page on Middlemore himself. Had I known of your work I'd have added to it when you uploaded it. Ericoides (talk) 17:57, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. Thanks! Gildir (talk) 18:12, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just seen your WIP on Henri Cordier. Was it not Louis Cordier who married a niece of Ramond, rather than Henri being Ramond's nephew? It would be interesting to know what Henri's relation was to to Louis. Ericoides (talk) 13:24, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
According to Henri Cordier's obituary in the Alpine Journal, he was a grandson of the geologist and a great-nephew of Ramond. I have corrected the WIP accordingly. Gildir (talk) 20:47, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Gildir, thanks for your good work on Middlemores Saddles and Thomas Middlemore. I just thought of this, my first article was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Sir_William_Hawkslow_Middlemore which was rejected 3 times on notability, can you make it acceptable at all? After 3 rejections I wasn't ever expecting anything more, so if you can't - no problem :) Middle More (talk) 23:14, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem re Maund; it's nice that you're starting all of these interesting pages. I don't do DYK any more, but I see that you do: it would be good, if you can be bothered to do so, if you could propose a hook including Middlemore, Cordier and Maund (best be quick as Middlemore was written on 12th; 17th is therefore the deadline). How about ... that on the first ascent of the Cordier Couloir on the Aiguille Verte, Thomas Middlemore, John Oakley Maund and Henri Cordier were "nearly obliterated by rockfall"? Ericoides (talk) 21:15, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the suggestion, Ericoides. I have now made the nomination, using your suggested hook as the first of three alternatives (see below). Once again, I really appreciate your help and collaboration. :-) Gildir (talk) 21:47, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great, good show (US: job)! I've added a pic to the nom. Ericoides (talk) 07:58, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, Graham. I always enjoy contributing to List of fictional astronauts. :-) Gildir (talk) 14:50, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure -- I'll have to look again. Gildir (talk) 13:13, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to add as many details of the fictional Apollo 18 mission as the author provides (Excepting the real astronauts he names.) If you have the publication details (Title, author, publisher, year, isbn) feel free to add them to the reference listing.Graham1973 (talk) 17:07, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thank you, Graham. :-) Gildir (talk) 23:55, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Saw your latest updates, I'm going to have to start sorting out the books on my "to do" list. Something else I plan to sort out is the "Apollo ??" situation, there are a number of books where you have Apollo missions mentioned without specific mission numbers ("'The Falling Astronauts'" has two for example.) and I cannot help feeling we need a better way to distinguish them.Graham1973 (talk) 11:14, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just had an idea, where it is clear that the fictional mission went to the Moon (& landed) use Unnamed CSM/LM instead of Apollo??. Also regarding the fictional missions in "The Cassandra Project", perhaps refer to them as AS-(Number), author Joe Poyer did this with his fictional Gemini mission where instead of calling it Gemini IX he called it GT-9.Graham1973 (talk) 07:07, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have now replaced Apollo ?? with Unnamed CSM/LM for the Cassandra Project missions. The Cassandra Project gives no numbers for the two missions at all; since they preceded Apollo 10, presumably the authors didn't want to get into the issue of whether they should be Apollo 8 and 9, or 7 and 9, superseding the real missions with those numbers. Gildir (talk) 13:38, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Kramer Williamson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet WP:NSPORT, WP:NMOTORSPORT or WP:GNG. Tragic for his loss, but WP:NOTMEMORIAL.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File source problem with File:Alberto Ascari.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Alberto Ascari.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 09:42, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Glen H. Taylor, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Texas Ranger. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Coming back to the list of fictional astronauts[edit]

I've come back to this after a long break. Got back into the cleaning up of the references where possible. Something I noticed when watching the extended Audi 8 advert from 2016, the very first shot of the advert reveals that the unnamed astronaut is also a Mercury veteran.

I thought I'd discuss that with you prior to making the edit. Graham1973 (talk) 02:57, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please, go ahead and make the edit, Graham. Once again, it's good to have you back, and thank you for everything you're doing. :-) Gildir (talk) 13:24, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Having problem with a footnote on List of fictional astronauts[edit]

I've created a footnote for the List of Fictional astronauts to indicate that the authors name for the novel version is a pseudonym, but for some reason it is not appearing and there is a very unhelpful error message at the bottom of the rerence listing.

I have not been able to figure out just what I did wrong, you might want to have a look at the formatting and see what you can do.Graham1973 (talk) 13:06, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the formatting, and the footnote now appears in the list of references. If you would rather have it appear with the footnotes, I might be able to do that, too. Thanks, Graham. Gildir (talk) 15:31, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the fix, was trying to get it to appear in the footnotes rather than the references, if you can get that to work fine, but if not, I'm not that worried. Still searching YouTube for anything interesting film wise.Graham1973 (talk) 16:02, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've now put the footnote in the list of footnotes. Thanks again for everything you're doing, Graham. Gildir (talk) 16:12, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, both for your assistance and for keeping the list going, as noted it may never be completed, but it's a fun journey researching and finding new things to add to it.Graham1973 (talk) 01:08, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Sheriff & The Astronaut[edit]

I was just doing a curiosity search for the unsold TV drama "The Sheriff & The Astronaut" and stumbled across an old 'Coming up Next' promo on YouTube, looks like the only(?) episode produced may have aired, but from the looks of it I can see why it didn't prosper.

The clip is linked below, this might and I stress might be worth further research.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOjOCSydBKg

I've also managed to locate via GoogleNews a TV listing dated May 24, 1984 that confirms that it was planned to air the pilot and another article from May 31, 1984 confirming that it did in fact air. I'm now wondering if it made it onto VHS.

The Free Lance-Star, May 24, 1984 - The TV listing is on page 16 https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=9fRKRCJz75UC&dat=19840524&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

List of Fictional Astronauts[edit]

I've added to the talk page a music video with a space theme, that you might want to watch. It is a possible for inclusion but I wanted a consensus about it if possible. Also I am going to be going over the page to fix the titling. Book titles are supposed to be in italics not "quotation marks".Graham1973 (talk) 23:30, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Graham. I should have watched it already but I have a lot going on this week. Hope to see it in a few days. Always great to work with you on the list. Gildir (talk) 22:06, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you can run down a copy of the spy novel (Assignment - Mara Tirana) I added to the list. I could only go on what was included in the summary. I've no idea what details the author included in the book. Given the year of publication it's most likely a Mercury capsule, but you can never tell with these authors. Graham1973 (talk) 22:36, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I read the first 39 pages of the book and skimmed the rest. Stepanic's spacecraft is launched by an Atlas rocket with a second-stage Thor-Able (p. 17). The capsule is described as a "one-ton mushroom bell", "not more than ten feet long and six feet wide" (p. 121), but the name "Mercury" is never used. I found one occurrence of the name "NASA" (p. 122). Gildir (talk) 14:25, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to why I deleted the image of the accident, I have the article at FAC, and the image review noted there is no clear source for the copyright holder on the image. As I wrote in my reply on that, I would prefer to keep the image there (as it is indeed a defining part of the article), but couldn't find the original owner (the image's information links to a user-upload on Youtube, which is clearly not the copyright holder). So if/when that is sorted out, it is probably best to keep the image off, though if you can find the original owner of the video and update the image's information, that would make it easier. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages.
