Hi Mdnavman - good to see a couple of new stubs for places in Nunavut. A couple of small things for future reference though, i case you're making any more of them - firstly all of Canada's provinces and territories have their own geo-stub templates now, so you can use {{nunavut-geo-stub}} instead of {{canada-geo-stub}}; secondly, you only need to use {{DEFAULTSORT}} if you want to have the article sort under something different to the first word of its title (you don't need to put it on articles like Grinnell Land). Maralia, I'd be happy to use a null edit ensure edit history continuity, etc., but \i don't know what a null edit is or how to leave one, nor do I know how to provide an edit summary that contains the prior edit history. Could you walk me through all of this so I know how? I hope it's not something too cumbersome, as I hope not to be deterred from unravelling overly merged ship histories (like the U.S. World War II seaplane tenders redirected to 1980s Philippine ship articles and so on). I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be obtuse. A 'null edit' is one that effectively changes no content and is made simply to add a note to the edit history. The edit is performed by merely adding a space in the article text (or a blank line at the end of it), and putting the note in the edit summary field. I have done so in this edit: [1]. In the future, if you split articles, when you paste content into a 'new' article, you could just mention where that content came from in your edit summary. Hope that explains everything. If an article should be retitled with a name that better matches the naming conventions, as was the case with USS Absecon (1918) → USS Absecon (ID-3131), may I suggest using the "Move" tab next time? You don't need to have any special privileges to move an article if the other name is not already taken, and don't worry about mistakes, since they can easily be fixed.

What you did in this case is called a "cut and paste" move, meaning that you cut the text from one article and pasted it into another. A "cut and paste" move doesn't preserve the edit history for the article, which is important for the GFDL license for the text. Using the "Move" tab also has the advantage of moving the article's talk page along with the article to preserve WikiProject notices and any discussion about aspects of the article that may have occurred in the past.

I've moved the talk page and have asked for assistance to correct the article's edit history, so you don't need to do anything else, but I wanted to let you know so that you can avoid this in the future. Well done on the excellent work. I was wondering, are there many Vietnamese naval vessels that have not been included on Wikipedia? Also I have moved some of the titles because it is quite obvious that they are typos, like Ngo Quyen, Ly Thuong Kiet and Pham Ngu Lao, all famous warriors. What do you think of changing the footnote to point out that the source was erroneous rather than an alternative spelling, as it isn't a case of Muhammad and Mohammad, for instance. I saw you had created a substantial number of Categories of the name "[Year] ships", like Category:1784 ships. When the new ship years/decades/centuries system was setup, the consensus at WikiProject Ships was to not have categories for individual year categories prior to 1850 but to only categorize ships by decade before that (or by century only for 16th-century vessels or earlier). The rationale was that for ships prior to 1850 (based on the articles already in existence on WP), no individual year category would have more than a few ships in it, reducing the utility of such a category. The rule of thumb agreed on for determining whether or not to create a new categories was if there was more than one screenful (i.e. 200 articles) in a decade category, then create the additional year categories. I would also like to ask that you not recatgorize ships prior to 1850 into the year categories that were created. Hi. I've recently been clearing up some WWI photographs, and stumbled across File:HMS Cornwallis (1901) firing at Dardanelles 18-19 February 1915.jpg.

As far as I can tell, the metadata on this has got garbled at some point before you scanned it - it's a version of commons:File:HMS Cornwallis broadside Suvla December 1915.jpg, which is recorded by the Imperial War Museum as Q.13682; "December 1915. HMS CORNWALLIS firing at Turkish positions after the evacuation of Anzac and Suvla. The CORNWALLIS was the last ship to leave Suvla Bay."

Reid (APD-119) is much disfigured by your decision, against MoS guidance, to link all dates. May I give you some tips about articles that will save both of us some time? I don't want this to come out the wrong way but some constructive criticism is in order here. Since I seem to be the only ship project member that assesses most of the new articles there are some things you could do to help me out.

• Please place the {{WPSHIPS|class=|B1=|B2=|B3=|B4=|B5=}} project tag on the talk page of every new article (including categories, templates and disambiguation) you start. If you don't feel like assessing the article that's ok; I will get to it eventually. There is a bot that tracks new articles but it sometimes malfunctions or doesn't run for several days at a time and that's when I miss articles. Today I found about 50 articles you started that weren't tagged.
• See wp:overlink. A lot of the wiki links you place in an article aren't really needed so this may save your fingers from having to type them all in.

Hey, I just saw some of your edits to U.S. submarine class categories where you had added era/conflict categories. The WP:SHIPS consensus is not to add era or conflict categories to ship class categories, but it's okay to add them to ship class articles, though. You might take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Categorization to see what the project's consensus on categories; the section "Ship class category categorization" specifically addresses ship class categories. Great work on uploading all of the submarine photos you have been working on! They really help out the articles quite a bit. One thing you might consider doing: since all of the photos seem to be official U.S. Navy photos, you might consider uploading them to Wikimedia Commons instead of Wikipedia. (Your same Wikipedia login information should work there.) Any photo with a free-use license—U.S. Navy or government photos are public domain, and thus free-use—are welcome there. If they are uploaded at Commons, you can still use them in Wikipedia in the same manner (just use the [[File:Imagename]] format just like you do now), but users on non-English Wikipedias can use them as well; when they are on the English Wikipedia only, they can't be used on other language projects. Also, free-use images on Wikipedia are eventually moved to Commons anyway, so by uploading them there yourself, you save the time of other editors. (There are over 18,000 files in Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons waiting to be moved.)

It looks like from what you've uploaded that you're aware of this, but one other thing to keep in mind about photos from NavSource is that not all them are public domain photos. If you stick to those that are identified as U.S. Navy photos (or photos from other U.S. government agencies) everything is good. Can I just ask when you create any aircraft articles could you please add them to the list at Wikipedia:New articles (Aircraft) - this allows editors in the WP:AIRCRAFT project to know when new articles have been created. Thanks for you reply -just a note about aerospecs, currently the project is using Template:Aircraft specs which is more flexible than aerospecs. In the new template is has a number of fields like more performance which allow free text entries for info that had not a standard field. If you have any problems please let me know.
