San Antonio–Austin metroplex

[edit]

Hi Radom1967! Thank you for your updates at San Antonio–Austin metroplex. I had a question about the some of the updates you made. How did you pull the population amount, density, and the sq mi / km2? I accessed both sources you cited for that but didn't know what to input. If you let me know how you pulled it I can go ahead and add a note so that our readers know what to do if/when they access the source. I was able to figure it out for the GDP piece because it was simply adding both Austin metro and SA metro. Thank you! Morogris () 18:26, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Both Greater San Antonio and Greater Austin has their own Wikipedia articles with area and population info. Since San Antonio–Austin metroplex is a combination of San Antonio MSA and Austin MSA i just combined area, GDP and population data with sources from original articles Radom1967 (talk) 18:40, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think i will just change population with this one https://www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/datasets/2020-2022/metro/totals/cbsa-est2022.csv Radom1967 (talk) 18:46, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha, thank you. I need to double check if we are allowed to add CSV files as sources. But the link is reliable b/c of the domain so I don't see a problem. I'll just add a note saying that the numbers were added manually from the CSV file provided. Now, for the sq mi and density, is that in another source we can cite? Thanks again and sorry if I caused any confusion. Morogris () 18:57, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you don’t want CSV you can add this link.
https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/popest/2020s-total-metro-and-micro-statistical-areas.html#v2022
There you can find that CSV file also Radom1967 (talk) 18:59, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For area
Austin area source
https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Bulletin-20-01.pdf
As of March 2020, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget defines the Austin–Round Rock-Georgetown MSA as including Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties.
San Antonio area source

sources says what counties make MSA. So just need to combine area of each separate county Radom1967 (talk) 19:08, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Radom1967, hope you are doing well. You're apparently the GDP expert on Wikipedia! But respectfully stated, I object to the ranking of cities (metropolitan areas) by their PPP GDP. The nominal GDP is the figure that needs to be prioritized. For example, NYC's GDP is listed as 1.8 trillion dollars and Tokyo's as 2.2 trillion dollars, which is extremely misleading. In reality, both cities have a nominal GDP in the 2.2 trillion dollar range, and within a few years NYC will likely surpass Tokyo. Most rankings of countries display the U.S. first because it has the highest nominal GDP. In rankings where China is listed as having the highest GDP by PPP, that table is usually an add-on table to be displayed, not as a standalone table. Furthermore, the table in this article isn't properly sourced by either the content or by the reliability of Visual Capitalist, which doesn't even have its own Wikipedia article. The table also doesn't display the year the GDPs represent, and I suspect that the figures are at least several years outdated. Finally, it really doesn't look good to add "by Visual Capitalist" in the section header. Would it please be possible for you to create a new and updated list of cities table by nominal GDP, with reliable sourcing, from a reliable source which at minimum has at least its own Wikipedia article and which actually supports the content stated? Best, Castncoot (talk) 20:08, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I haven’t added Visual capitalist data myself. I just edited table a bit recently. It was someone else while ago. I can agree data was good back then but now it’s quite outdated. And actually New York already surpassed Tokyo. New York MSA has GDP of $2.2T while Tokyo JP¥ 222 trillion (~$1.5 trillion at current exchange rates) since Japanese currency dropped in value. I can believe that Los Angeles CSA can surpass Tokyo which is at $1.5T right now. You ask me to make new table but there is already long list of cities. I can see people all the time are increasing numbers for Paris, London and Seoul that they have 1 trillion but that’s not true. I don’t know how to stop these editors. Seems like this article gonna be mess for long time because there is Nominal and PPP, so much cities are growing fast and people are adding way bigger numbers than it actually is. For excample people add that Moscow metro is 550 billion which is not true. It’s like ₽31.3 trillion Rubles (~$350 billion current exchange rates). I don’t know maybe I can try to create something TOP 20 cities by GDP list but I don’t know Radom1967 (talk) 20:39, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I can collaborate with you then, keeping in mind that you're the expert. Would you have an objection to creating an updated Top 20 Nominal GDP table and then we can use it to replace the current table? People will then have to build onto that table only with additional cities' nominal values and citing reliable sources. We can then justifiably do so using the edit summary, "Update and replace outdated table." Best, Castncoot (talk) 03:47, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I need create entire new article like “Largest metropolitan areas by GDP” where each continent will have like top 10 or top 20 largest economies. Because this list is too long it has like 300 cities. Also if I change it or delete it someone can revert it. Also people will add fake data anyway. I think creating entirely new article is way to go. To have full control of it and people wouldn’t add fake data. Radom1967 (talk) 09:41, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for creating that article Radom1967! Perhaps it can be named 'List of metropolitan areas by GDP' – and then 'Metropolitan areas by GDP', 'Largest metropolitan areas by GDP', and 'List of largest metropolitan areas by GDP' can all redirect to it. Best, Castncoot (talk) 02:27, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've deleted the table for largest metro areas by GDP since we both agree that it's garbage and disinformation. If someone happens to revert, it would be very appreciated if you as the expert step in and explain why that table is just plain erroneous. Best, Castncoot (talk) 02:50, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked as a sockpuppet

[edit]
Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abusing multiple accounts as a sockpuppet of User:Eimukas22 per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Eimukas22. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  — Newslinger talk 22:38, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I recognize that you have made many constructive edits on this account, so I strongly recommend taking a six-month break and requesting an unblock per the standard offer. The unblock request will need to be made from your original account (Eimukas22). Thanks. — Newslinger talk 22:50, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
what Radom1967 (talk) 04:46, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t know I think this “using multiple accounts” policy is stupid. Because I only use this one. Even tho I if have old accounts there is no option to delete them. If i could I would have deleted them. You don’t offer any solution for user just create new account. I can appeal after 6 months? What is this prison sentence? Radom1967 (talk) 05:03, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So what to do now. I wasn’t blocked blocked for disruptive edits but for using multiple accounts in which case I can’t delete them and you can’t delete them. I can appeal after 6 six months but you will definitely reject appeal. No solution. Radom1967 (talk) 05:23, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You were originally blocked for disruptive editing in January 2017 (see User talk:Eimukas22 § January 2017), but since you abused multiple accounts after the original block, the block reason now includes both issues. Per Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry § Inappropriate uses of alternative accounts (WP:ILLEGIT), using another account to evade blocks or sanctions is prohibited. This is because the block applies to you as an individual, and not only your initial account.
I have no way of knowing how your eventual unblock request will be received, but there are a couple of ways to increase the chance of a successful unblock. As Wikipedia:Standard offer states, you have the option of mentioning that you would like to go through the second-chance procedure when you request your unblock in six months. Additionally, you have a higher likelihood of qualifying for a conditional unblock. You can also submit another unblock request after a longer period of time if your first one is declined.
However, creating another account before you are unblocked will cause your edits to be reversed (see the block evasion policy) and make it more difficult for you to edit again. As you are not blocked on other Wikimedia projects such as Lithuanian Wikipedia, you may continue to edit there, but please note that your track record on other projects will be evaluated when you make an unblock request here in the future. — Newslinger talk 06:20, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn’t edit Lithuanian Wikipedia even for money. I made I think couple edits year ago and they were reverted. Don’t like community there. Seems like Lithuanian Wikipedia is stricter than English one. So I lost interest in that. My last interest in Wikipedia is GDP data. If not it would have left Wikipedia at all. Because seems like regional GDP data is neglected and very outdated.
User:Sbaio originally blocked me for setting Lithiania to “Northern Europe”. Seems like I’m not going to edit Lithiania at all. I’m done with this country.
Also I was accused of editing European countries by average wage to much. My bad it was really stupid since so many people are increasing kinda fake wage data to look their countries better. I think that Article is done. Also these non stoping Turkish data wars
after this block I just lost my mood Radom1967 (talk) 07:03, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have done 12,000 edits on Wikipedia and nothing happened. I have done 1 edit on Lithiania article and I got banned. This shows how Lithianians hate other Lithuanians I talking to you user:Sbaio. What user:Sbaio you have 120,000 edits on Wikipedia? Wow most of them are NHL edits. And sports are for dummies. Radom1967 (talk) 07:33, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don’t even unblock me I’m done with this account Radom1967 (talk) 07:35, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand this is a frustrating experience for you, but please do not make personal attacks against other editors. Insulting other editors will make it more difficult for you to request an unblock if you decide to return in the future.
Since future unblock requests need be made from the original account (Eimukas22, through User talk:Eimukas22) and not this account, I am disabling talk page access on this account. See you in six months or more, if you choose to request an unblock. Take care. — Newslinger talk 08:07, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
