Giggs interview with United mag

[edit]

Hi,

I see from this edit that you've added information about the first Premier League season. Could you please put a reference inline using the ref tags/or a citation template such as {{citation}}, (i.e. with volume/page numbers etc) as simply mentioning it in an edit summary tends to get lost after a while so people might remove it as being unreferenced.

Cheers, —User:MDCollins (talk) 23:09, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

wtf u do

[edit]

I have been updating the Spain national team article for YEARS, I did the latest changes and updated the article and now that i'm adding the 1 in bold and the 1 title LIKE ANY OTHER NATIONAL TEAM u deny it?

Don't do it again or I'll report u for vandalism, I'm making this article like anything else. If you have something against Spain don't show in on the Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.184.101.153 (talk) 00:55, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand Roundels

[edit]

I'mnot sure which way the roundel by itself as an amblem should face, however I do know that the Kiwi is to face the front of the aircraft when it's applied, which is why I turned it to the left, similar to the Aussie one which has the kangaroo facing left. I can turn them back though if you think I should. Fry1989 (talk) 20:25, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Sorry, I reverted your change to this editor's userpage. I can, however, try and help you set up something similar...? I'm an idiot when it comes to fancy HTML, but I could at least set up a User:VEO15/Newuserpage with a copy of HJ Mitchell's userpage, which you could personalise before copying it to your main userpage. Kits

[edit]

Hey man, excellent work on the World Cup kits! I was wondering, though, if it would be possible for you to go through a bunch of club articles to look for kit graphics that incorporate logos, and then upload logo-less versions for use here. I've given up on reverting User:Bruno-ban on Commons, so it seems that uploading logo-less versions is the only remaining options, and since you obviously have more talent for this than I do, I hope you'll be able to help. – PeeJay 23:51, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, mate. I realise my request was rather a bit much, and since I've got a lot of logo-less kits on my HDD, I can do that for ya. – PeeJay 09:42, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

questions

[edit]

Hello! Could you tell me where are the files "kit socks puma 2010 red" and "kit socks puma white" in the commons? I can find the green version, the gold and some other, but not them! And how did you change in the pattern the "_olympiacos1011h" to "_ocfph2010" since the file is "File:Kit body olympiacos1011h.png"? - Sthenel (talk) 10:23, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is there (and where) any discussion-decision that we shouldn't use kits with the logo of the sports company on them? What about the club logo? In some cases they are used. - Sthenel (talk) 14:30, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Tales from New York: The Very Best of Simon & Garfunkel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

album with no evidence of notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Finnish League and Cup articles

[edit]

Hi VEO15. I am making contact with those Editors that take an active interest in Finnish football on English Wikipedia.

For a long time I have been happy to work on Finnish football on Wikipedia without making contact with other Finnish football enthusiasts - basically I like preparing articles / undertaking tasks that interest me and contact with others has not been important. However recently some of my work was changed by a Wikipedia Reviewer and this has led me to question what approach I should be following and indeed what approach would other Finnish football enthusiasts wish to adopt?

The current issue I face is the naming of Finnish Football League and Cup pages. I have adopted the approach that we should always be using the Finnish name in the title, for example 2007 Ykkönen and 2001 Veikkausliiga. However, I am aware that words like Mestaruussarja mean very little to most English speaking Wikipedia users. I therefore have included the English name in the title as well in recent pages, for example, 1936 Mestaruussarja – Finnish League Championship, 1938 Suomensarja – Finnish League Division 2 and 2000 Kakkonen – Finnish League Division 2. I thought that this approach might be a suitable naming convention until the Reviewer changed "2012 Suomen Cup - Finnish Cup" back to 2012 Finnish Cup.

The basic question I am asking is whether Finnish League and Cup articles should have a Finnish or English title or some form of hybrid?

I provide examples below:

Finnish Title English Title Hybrid Title
2012 Veikkausliiga 2012 Finnish Championship 2012 Finnish Veikkausliiga
2012 Kolmonen 2012 Finnish Division 3 2012 Finnish Kolmonen
2012 Suomen Cup 2012 Finnish Cup 2012 Finnish Suomen Cup
2012 Suomen Liigacup 2012 Finnish League Cup 2012 Finnish Liigacup
1938 Maakuntasarja 1938 Finnish Division 3 1938 Finnish Maakuntasarja
1954 Suomensarja 1954 Finnish Division 2 1954 Finnish Suomensarja
1970 II divisioona 1970 Finnish Division 2 1970 Finnish II divisioona
1986 III divisioona 1986 Finnish Division 3 1986 Finnish III divisioona
1997 Ykkönen 1997 Finnish Division 1 1997 Finnish Ykkönen

I have read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) and Wikipedia:Article titles but have not reached a firm conclusion yet on the best way forward in establishing a consistent approach. The issue does matter with respect to the corrections I must make to existing pages and the tens of pages yet to be prepared. It could also carry implications for some of the articles that you currently contribute to.

I think that the matter would best be addressed on a proper basis and encourage that the issue is considered on the Talk Page of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Finland task force. If the matter is of concern to you as well, please add your name to the list of participants on the main page.

You may also wish to comment on the project structure that I have prepared.

Kind regards - (Finnish Gas (Finnish Gas 13:18, 23 February 2012 (UTC)).[reply]

List of expatriate Irish populations

[edit]

Hi, The change you have made does not make sense. For it to be logical the definition of the "British" category would have to be changed to "People of England, Wales and Northern Ireland native to Ireland, or with Irish ancestry." Downsize43 (talk) 04:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. To my simple mind, as an Australian descended from both Irish and Northern Irish, the following should apply.
1. All persons born in either Ireland or Northern Ireland of ethnic Irish parentage are ethnic Irish.
2. If they continue to live in either Ireland or Northern Ireland they are not members of an expatriate population.

Good point. Although knowing United, they'll ask Ajax Cape Town to wear their away kit so we can use one of our two new kits and then unveil a new third kit in a few weeks! – PeeJay 23:30, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PROD

[edit]

Just a friendly reminder that {{prod}} tag should be added to the article and not its talk page. Also, you should use an edit summary which mentions the term "prod" when proposing deletion for an article. Edit summary usage is always good, but it is especially important that edit summaries are used when proposing deletion. The reason for this is that articles proposed for deletion that later have the {{prod}} tag removed should not be proposed for deletion again, but rather sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. The only easy way to check if an article was previously proposed for deletion is to look at the edit history and the edit summaries people have left before. Thanks! KTC (talk) 23:15, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous quote marks

[edit]

V, quotes in quotes can't use the same marks, as your edits in Sign "O" the Times (song) have caused. That's what I was trying to fix when you called me "anal". Maybe it's not important to you to get such things fixed, but that's not a reason to revert the fixer. I'll give it one more try. Please respond here or on the article talk page if you see a problem with my edit. Dicklyon (talk) 00:16, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sign o' the times

[edit]

If you want to work on the typography of this title, please try to do so with some greater subtlety. Putting double quote inside double quotes give mismatched quotes, which is a malformed construct in any case. The double-quote capital O interpretation is rare in sources anyway. No petty bureaucracy. Your kits are not as detailed and were removed for that reason alone. Please explain why your kits should be used. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:46, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Manchester United F.C.. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:55, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RfC part II

[edit]

Hi. You participated in RfC on Talk:Frédéric Fontang. Per the advice of closing admin "This result sets no precedent for similar articles. To address the other articles, I would suggest a broadly-worded RfC" I have confirmed the title of the second RfC addressing the other 105 affected articles with the closing admin and that follow on broadly-worded RfC is at Wikipedia:Requests for Comment/Duplicate name in basic ASCII character set. Thank you. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:12, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vietnamese

[edit]

Thank you for your comment, but actually Vietnamese is not really an exception - although it's evident there isn't the SNOW support en.wp has for European Latin names, we had a RfC last year that confirmed 23-10 a majority (or 23-16 with canvassing) that the project favours treating Vietnamese names the same as Czech or French. Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Vietnamese) is not an adopted guideline, in effect an essay by one editor who has engaged in repeated sockpuppeting, for which he has been blocked in the recent past, and something between 1400 to 1500 undiscussed moves in his 1-man campaign against Vietnamese names. I have restored the "historical" tag. Perhaps if you're interested in Vietnamese (which I hope more editors would be) you could also add the page to your watchlist. All the best. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:02, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Every place I look, I find IIO lying and bullying. The RfC he is talking about was closed as "no consensus" and "too much of a mess to do anything else". If you read though it, you can see why. IIO did everything he could to disrupt it: repeated declarations that he would not accept the outcome, enormous photo galleries, personal accusations, and prosecutor-style questioning for those who dared disagree. There was no vote count. Kauffner (talk) 00:28, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This following is usual. 23 supported 16 opposed. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:16, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No one named you vote counter. You putting together the votes of everyone who wrote anything favorable about diacritics, even it was only on your talk page. These people didn't vote for any particular proposal. They certainly didn't vote for marking the page "historical", an idea that didn't even come up at the time. Hi there VEO, AL from Portugal,

what i meant in the edit summary with "i know my Spanish football" was nothing aggressive or similar, i meant i know how the Spanish football is "taken care" of in Spain and also in England. For what's important, this WP, i know that the club is known as ZARAGOZA as much as REAL ZARAGOZA in your country, same goes for Real Betis (known as solely Betis in England too) and many other clubs, only two clubs that need the REAL prefix all the time are Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.

However, seeing your last reversion and reply (basically telling me "Do what you want in the Spanish entry, leave this one alone") i know i don't stand a chance, don't worry, article stays as you say, not going to edit war over this.

Hi mate, happy new year! I just noticed that the 1999 FA Charity Shield article has been promoted to GA status, but that the Arsenal kit graphic looks a little off. The white sides are too wide, and there should be some navy blue trim separating the red and the white. The shirt apparently also had a white collar and red trim on the ends of the sleeves. Hi there VEO, AL "here",

first things first: i apologize if my reaction seemed aggressive, did not mean it like that. Now for the technicalities, he may have that in his shirt, but it's of no encyclopedical interest, player's know as Cissé, period.

Two examples, past and present: Sergio Busquets has "Sergio" in his shirt, is he known like that? No he's not, he's known as Busquets! Guti, in honour of his sons, printed the mind-blowing "Guti HAZ" in his shirt, should we name him like that? Of course not, player's known as Guti.

All in all I have not reverted you again, i am leaving WP for good in July, so can not be bothered to enter an edit war that will produce only negative things in my opinion. The "Sam" stays.

Happy editing --AL (talk) 17:49, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, i totally understand where you're coming from man, but we must keep data simple in my humble opinion. Sergio Ramos may have both his first name and surname printed on his shirt, but we must address him as Ramos no? Cheers again --AL (talk) 18:50, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:FLAG#Use of flags for sportspersons says:

Flags should never indicate the player's nationality in a non-sporting sense; flags should only indicate the sportsperson's national squad/team or representative nationality (and it is not an exception to #Avoid flag icons in infoboxes). Where flags are used in a table, it should clearly indicate that they correspond to representative nationality, not legal nationality, if any confusion might arise. (emphasis is mine)

In a globalised world, players are pursuing their careers abroad in increasingly large numbers. In the case in question, these flags are used to indicate their legal nationalities. Even if some of these are national squad members, I warrant that the use of flags to sex up the article against the players' names is gratuitous and a violation of the guideline. -- Ohc ¡digame! 06:25, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey over there. I noticed that you are also working a lot at that list, great job by the way. I just saw that you use references in this way "Cref2|Note 44|5". Do you know if the last number in this example (5) actually does something? I also did references in this way in the past, but I found it just unnecessary work and deleted them all, e.g. at List of foreign Bundesliga players and am using them in in this format "Cref2|Note 44". I think it's just really exhausting work without a real benefit. What do you think? Kind regards DrunkenGerman (talk) 09:30, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. It's nice that you share my point of view. What do you think about just deleting all of them? (Of course I just mean the numbering) DrunkenGerman (talk) 17:37, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Corinthians kits

[edit]

Hey man, how are you? I was looking for someone who update kits for clubs and they name you. Corinthians is launching its new kits this week (1st and 3rd kits, actually) and I'd like someone to create them so we could update the articles related. If you're willing to, I can send the pics for those new kits. The third is based on the template Nike's using for this season (like Internazionale, Barcelona, City...) The first one seems to have the same design as Atlético de Madrid's 2nd kit, but with different combinations obviously. Anyway, thanks! Gsfelipe94 (talk) 22:51, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Great Britain Olympic football team shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

Thanks for providing an explanation in the edit summary of your revert. Yes, I am happy with it - but don't agree. Those post towns are within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral as you rightly point out, but why change just them in the article? The lead paragraph mentions the CH postcode has 13 post towns and lists them (as do other postcode articles). Why not change the Cheshire post towns from Chester, Neston and Ellesmere Port to West Cheshire and Chester as well? By your definition you could also change the lead paragraphs of all the other postcode articles to list which borough or unity authority they are in then.
