[edit]

Hi, I have just come accross a message you left for me at my ip address talk which said "Your edit to Bidhan Nagar, Kolkata on 26 December 2006. Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. --Victor 02:55, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

I went up and looked the edit you talked about, and I had just linked the city centre link in the article, to City Centre (shopping mall). How and why did you come to the conclusion that it was inappropriate, and that I was spamming, and moreover felt it was serious enough for you leave a message on my ip talk page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.176.105.35 (talkcontribs) 12:37, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

District templates

[edit]

We have not had occasion to discuss matters. I recently came across your note on the Rajarhat talk page. I have been working on the cities and towns for some time. I started with transfers of material from Ganeshbot and then got involved. Recently, I have put in a district template for all towns in West Bengal. Maybe, I have missed few here and there. Please have a look. Feel free to make corrections, as you deem fit. Regards -- P.K.Niyogi 03:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for your response and also your warning about the Bankura map. I have added it. Yes, slips do take place. I have been editing pages without any regard to personal attachments. It is a good learning experience. Regards -- P.K.Niyogi 04:41, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Hi Victor, Though it's a minor issue, I just want to point out that you cannot use "fair use" images at User:Victor.P.Das/Images I have uploaded. Such images are subject to strict usage guidelines, and any usage or display of the image must be on a page where the usage will be fair under the criteria (i.e. an article about the object).

I suggest that you remove the thumbnails to FU images and just link to them ... an example is like this Image:Logo hcs.JPG. Thanks. --Ragib 17:38, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, you can use thumbnails for images with licenses that allow for it. Fair use is just another name of using a copyrighted work under a strict and narrowly defined way ... you can ONLY use it to illustrate the object. Even if you had uploaded it, the image is still copyrighted. Any usage of it outside the strict fair use criteria isn't allowed, and so, user pages/subpages cannot have fair use images (see #8 on the criteria page). Hope this helps. --Ragib 18:03, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm a 5th grader, and am doing a prodject on Canada. I'm making a broture. I'm going to need lots of pictures, and was wondering if I could use your picture. Could I? Thanks! :) Write back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.228.149.235 (talk) 18:45, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am not a very active Wikipedian, but I try to make a contribution when I can. I was wondering if there would be interest in some of the Saskatchewan Wpers getting together some time in the near future. I suggest the Craik Eco-Centre at noon for lunch on Saturday, June 23. Here is my attempt to get things moving. I have set up (I think) a Wikimeetup at Wikipedia:Meetup/Saskatchewan. I'm not sure what is next except to sit back and wait, so I will now sit back and wait. Delzen 18:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:EastBengalNewLogo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EastBengalNewLogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:10, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

University of Regina

[edit]

That is a terrific photo you took. And in winter -- Reginans are always rather bashful about photos of their city when it is minus 30 degrees, but that is, when all is said and done, when the city is at its most characteristic. It is a pity, though, that you only took one. Or did you? It would be nice if there were photos that showed the new Wascana campus of the university to better effect: from the new oval, for example; or showing the new residences. Any chance that you will be in Regina again in the foreseable future? Or that you took a few other photos when you were last there? Greetings, incidentally, from Australia.Masalai 18:54, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, I suppose: with brighter sun the photo would have been even better; but as I say, that IS what Regina looks like much of the time and it is certainly the best photo there is. Masalai 03:35, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Saskatoon and District Soccer Association, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Finngall talk 21:33, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saskatchewan Portal Creation Drive
  • Please comment about the formation of a new concept - a Saskatchewan Portal

Take a peek at the Canadian Portal. There are four provinces, BC, ON, PQ, and Nunavut. There are also four Canadian cities with portals of their own as well.

Portals are pages intended to serve as "Main Pages" for specific topics or areas. Portals may be associated with one or more WikiProjects; unlike WikiProjects, however, they are meant for both readers and editors of Wikipedia, and should promote content and encourage contribution.[1]

A unique concept by Portal India was to add a quiz as well India/Quiz

Portals introduce the Wikipedia reader to new developments by the wikiproject showing selected biographies, articles, pictures to feature periodically, and archive the previous suggestions. The portal may list information introducing the portal subject, categories, did you know, to do, other wikiprojects and news features as well.

Whereas Wikipedia:WikiProject Saskatchewan is an organization created to promote Saskatchewan usage and participation in Saskatchewan article editing and development.

  • The Academics and alumni articles have been created to assist the U of S article
  • Category sorting - more to do - ensure all articles are within a category/multiple categories.
    • Photographs on Wiki commons have been resorted into categories and subcategories.
  • Prepare a welcome/invitation template for recruiting potential members
  • Create new articles (e.g. Sports in Saskatchewan, Health in Saskatchewan)...
    • Sports in Saskatchewan is a newly created article, and is receiving help from afield to further the sections and edit copy.
  • Associate famous personalities to their home communities (e.g. Lorne Babiuk to Canora, Saskatchewan)...
    • As New articles are created check the wiki link at the bottom of the article title 'What Links Here. Here related articles and biographies are listed which should have reciprocal links or information upon the newly created main article page.
  • Geographical classification of Saskatchewan (consensus needed, e.g according to Weather Canada/Environment Canada)
    • Discussion is invited to help organize the areas of the Saskatchewan Wikiproject.

Original Reporter - Victor D PARLE

What's New?

Northern Saskatchewan Focus' For the northern areas of Saskatchewan these are newly created articles: Ajawaan Lake, Nistowiak Falls. There are major expansions made to Prince Albert National Park, Churchill River. These are primarily natural areas, landforms etc. If others have this interest, there is a lot to do such as obvious entries such as Lac La Ronge (and the provincial Saskatchewan parks ), and some of the famous lakes in the north, some named for explorers and fur traders. Saskatchewan Roads and Highways Red links to Saskatchewan roads

When looking through some Saskatchewan Highway articles (especially those containing intersection lists), you may notice that there are red links to potential Saskatchewan road articles (especially Range and Township Roads). However, many of these roads do not appear on the List of Saskatchewan provincial roads. If you happen to read over any highway articles, and you notice a red link to a road that does not appear on the provincial roads list, please add the road's name to the appropriate section on that list. Image source problem with Image:Alliance Fr logo.gif

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Alliance Fr logo.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Thanks for uploading Image:AAFC_Logo.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talkpage. Thank you. OsamaK (talk) 12:05, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    What's New?

The Assessment Department is new. Please help to assess via quality and importance Saskatchewan articles by using the parent Canada wikiproject template {{WikiProject Canada |class= |importance= | sk=yes }} along with the Assessment guidelines.

See also wikiproject template for other work groups with their wikiprojects as well as provinces which can be added to the Canadian template

The new template and assessment table worklist is produced periodically and was created by Arctic Gnome. Thank you very much! Please take a moment to send an award or other recognition

    New Template Saskatchewan

    • AT Bot requests, another very kind user has also offered to help with the transition process (Thank you also to Ρх₥α )

The request conglomerated together the following tasks to help show the quantity / quality of Saskatchewan related articles:

    1. tag all articles in Category:Saskatchewan and all of its subcategories with {{WikiProject Canada |sk = | class=| importance=}} and if {{WikiProject Canada | class=| importance=}} already exists, then can just |sk=yes be added to the Canada template?
    2. all articles which have a Saskatchewan related stub Saskatchewan-politician-stub / Saskatchewan-stub / Saskatchewan-geo-stub to be tagged in their talk pages for wikiproject Saskatchewan and be classified as stub as such: {{WikiProject Canada |sk =yes | class=stub| importance=}}
    3. add GA or FA to to the class parameter of {{WikiProject Canada}} articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.
    4. add stub to the class parameter if a stub tag is present on the article page.
    5. Replace the old tag {{Saskatchewanproject}} with the new parent wikiproject tag: {{WikiProject Canada |sk =yes | class=| importance=}} and if {{WikiProject Canada | class=| importance=}} already exists, then can just |sk=yes be added to the Canada template?
    6. add to the class area FL for any Featured-class lists articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.
    7. add to the class area List if the Saskatchewan related item in category:Saskatchewan articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.

Watch Arctic Gnome's assessment table worklist for progression undertaken by Ρх₥α. It is a very exciting time. Please take a moment to send an award or other recognition

From the Saskatchewan wiki meeting held back on 23 June 2007 it was discussed to develop an article on Health in Saskatchewan, and to improve to feature status articles: Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Regina.
    5. The University of Saskatchewan became a good article to celebrate the 2007 anniversary of campus, and should now have a peer reveiw to continue on to becoming a feature article. The List of University of Saskatchewan alumni was developed to assist this article and help would be appreciated providing citations for each entry, and to help add to the list.

    Highway Picture Template

    • Just as there is only one image needed for upload for Saskatchewan locator maps, and then various towns can be updated upon this image. So, too there should be a highway picture template, so that the various numbered highways 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914, etc can all have their own image without needing to create a bizzilion numbered images online.

    2004 Election

    • Our 2004 Saskatchewan election has resulted in an amazing number of politician biographies coming online! This was an awesome achievement, and something to be proud of!
    • Qyd (talk · contribs) and Arctic.gnome (talk · contribs) are editors of a wide variety of Canadian related articles, and of note as of this date is the enormous amount of work they have undertaken to help amalgamate all the various provincial wikiprojects and Canadian sub projects into one umbrella assessment department. This unique assessment department means that Saskatchewan related articles can be assessed for their own provincial merit, and also belong to the Canadian wikiproject as well. It also means that editors from both Canada wikiproject and Saskatchewan wikiproject can unite in their efforts to provide banners and ratings to articles. This will result in a huge improvement in quality on wikipedia, resulting in Saskatchewan's spotlight award for Qyd (talk · contribs). January 2008 newsletter Please pop into the Spotlight Department and read all the brief introductory Wikipedia Saskatchewan bio. Welcome and Happy New Year!:

    • Just as panic begins to settle in as to what in the world the next newsletter should mention, new areas of development and growth come about. The coming year of 2008 should provide not only more Saskatchewan articles, but also more articles with higher ratings with the assistance of more editors, and a new assessment department umbrella. The highways and roads project has given a good base for development, and to strengthen the presence and notability of roads and highways and effort is being called upon to help these articles improve, now that they too are under the assessment umbrella.

    Saskatchewan Roads and Highways

Saskatchewan Roads and Highways The WikiProject Canada Roads is undergoing an overhaul. It is aiming to produce some Good articles and Featured articles of highway content pertaining to Canada, and for the Saskatchewan Roads and Highways for Saskatchewan highways. As Saskatchewan is still a work in progress this is a challenging endeavour for as the guidelines are followed as laid out at either Highway wikiproject, they become red link farms because wikilinked articles have not been developed regarding the communities, provincial and regional parks and rural municipalities which the highways meander through. Please keep apprised of the progress, and if any Saskatchewan articles rise above stub we will list it on the main page.

There is also discussion started about assessment and navigation boxes on the talk page. Please peek in to add any comments you may have.

If you want to add your name as a particpant to the Canada Roads wikiproject [here]. To join the Saskatchewan Roads wikiproject sign on the main here please.

Recently articles Saskatchewan Highway 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914 have been improved, but they need more help so they can become articles nominated as Good articles. Please help out if you are able, even to create community and rural municipality articles for these Highway articles would be an enormous help.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Logo hcs.JPG

    [edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Logo hcs.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion.
