c/n 1871 Built 1944 by Goodyear as an FG-1A with the US Navy Bureau No14862. Shipped to UK in November 1944 for Royal Navy service as a Corsair IV with the British military serial KD431. Retired in December 1945 and became an instructional airframe at the Cranfield College of Aeronautics. Joined the FAA Museum in 1963 in a move made possible by the Historic Aircraft Preservation Society (HAPS). Underwent removal of 1963 paint between 2000 and 2005 revealing original paint. While historically of great value, I personally feel that this now leaves the aeroplane looking a bit of a mess and not accurately representing the history of either the individual airframe or the type. Just my opinion though. Seen on display in Hall 2 of the Fleet Air Arm Museum RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset, UK.
