"ミシシッピ"・ジョン・スミス・ハート（"Mississippi" John Smith Hurt, 1892年7月2日^[1] ミシシッピ州キャロル郡テオク（Teoc）生 - 1966年11月2日ミシシッピ州グレナダ（Grenada）没）は、ブルースシンガーでギタリスト。

ミシシッピ州アヴァロン（Avalon）で育ち、彼は9歳でギターを学んだ。若い時期のほとんどは、1920年代に入るまで、農作業のかたわら、友人やダンスのためにオールドタイム音楽（w:old time music）を演奏して過ごした。1923年、彼は時々、いつものパートナーのシェル・スミスの代理で、フィドル奏者のウィリー・ナムール（w:Willie Narmour）をパートナーにした。ナムールが1928年のフィドル・コンテストで優勝してオーケー・レコーズ（w:Okeh Records）で録音するチャンスを得た時に、彼はオーケー・レコーズのプロデューサー、トミー・ロックウェルにジョン・ハートを推薦した。彼の自宅での「マンデー・モーニング・ブルース（"Monday Morning Blues"）」を聞いて選考した後に、彼はメンフィスとニューヨークシティで二つのレコーディングのセッションに参加した。「ミシシッピ」という名前は、セールス用のギミックとしてオーケーによって加えられた。完成した盤の商業的な失敗と、不況の間にオーケー・レコーズが業務を辞めたことで、ハートはアヴァロンに戻って、小作人として人目につかない仕事をしながら地元のパーティやダンスで演奏した。
