Mense Octobri 2007, Americana octo militum paracopiarum decuria per splendida lunae lumina trans silvanum montis dorsum in Valli Korangal movebant,[2] cum plus quam duodecim proeliatores Talibani[3] insidias ex tribus lateribus ordinatas conlocabant.[4] . . . Iosua Brennan Decurio, punctum ambulans, saltem sex vulnera glandibus accepit. Giunta, tum ordinis specialistae, quartus miles in linea ambulans, est pectore vulneratus, sed a subucula ballistica servatus.[5] Alia glans arma super tergum torsa destruxit.[6] De commilitone vulnerato, Giunta inquit:

Per imbrem glandum cucurri ut viderem quod ei fieret, numque nos pone eundem lapidem celare possemus coniunctimque tela intenderemus. . . . Iam conscius erat. Spirabat. Morphinum rogabat. "Exibis", inquii, "et tuas heroicas narrabis fabulas," et mihi respondit, "Narrabo, narrabo."[7][8]

Brennan autem chirurgiam non superfuit. Secundum patrem, Michaelem Brennan, Giunta "non solum Iosuam [filium meum] periculo liberare [conabatur] . . . sed revera dimidium decuriae liberavit."[9]

Die 10 Septembris 2010, Aedes Albae nuntiaverunt Giuntam summum reipublicae ornamentum militare accepturum esse, primum quod homini vivo post Bellum Vietnamiense depositum concesserit.[10][11] Giunta est quartus Clipei Honoris receptor ex Bello Afganistaniensi, post Archigubernum Navalem Michaelem P. Murphy, Decurionem Primi Classis Exercitus Iaredem C. Monti, et Decurionem Legationis Exercitus Robertum Iacobum Miller. Clipeus Milleriani nuntiatus est uno die ante nuntium clipei Giuntani.[12][13]

Haec sunt edicta commendationis ab Aedibus Albis verba:

Salvator A. Giunta tum Specialista se rebus gestis virtutis summo suo periculo supra ultraque postulationem officii distinxit dum decuriam scopulorum longorum in Centuria B, Manipulo 2 (aereo), Cohorte Peduum 503, ducebat per certamen contra hostem armatum in Valli Korengal Afghaniae die 25 Octobris 2007. Decuriá Giuntae in duas partes ab insidiis rebellibus diffisá, seipsum telis prae se emissis obiecit ut salutem commilitoni adferret. Hostes etiamtum oppugnans et ad reliquam decuriam redire conans, Giunta Specialista duos vidit adversarios suum commilitonem auferre. Cito eos appetens, alium occidit, alium vulneravit, vulneratoque commilitoni auxilium medicum parabat dum reliqua decuria perveniens incolumitatem eis suppeditabat. Sua extremo telorum coniectu audacia ductusque decuriae vincendarum insidiarum commilitonisque Americani ex manibus hostis recuperandi facultatem penitus fecit.[14]

Giunta Living with Honor autobiographiam conscripsit, quae a Simon & Schuster profertur.[15]
