It is mostly grown in climates from cool temperate to sub-tropical. Propagation is from cuttings. As of 2018, The Plant List listed 245 species names published in Agapetes, of which 147 were accepted.[2]

In the UK, the cultivar 'Ludgvan Cross' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.[3]
