Divorce in the Black, marketed as "Tyler Perry's Divorce in the Black", is a 2024 American drama-thriller film written, produced, and directed by Tyler Perry. The film stars Meagan Good (who also produced), Cory Hardrict, Joseph Lee Anderson, Taylor Polidore, Shannon Wallace, Richard Lawson, and Debbi Morgan.
Premise
[edit]Ava, the daughter of a church preacher, is devastated to learn that her husband, Dallas, has deserted their marriage. His malicious actions eventually unravel as Ava gets a chance to find true love with her destined soulmate.
The story unfolds themes of resilience, self-worth and the difficult journey of leaving an abusive relationship.
PLOT
Divorce in the black is a drama about a woman deeply in love with her husband despite facing severe abuse from him. She endures physical and emotional maltreatment, including being beaten and spat on, yet continues to show him love and care. However, as the escalates, she reaches a breaking point and decides to file for divorce. Despite her attempt to end the marriage, her husband refuses to let go, frequently visiting her and causing further trouble.
Eventually, she takes a bold and courageous move, Ava takes a stand, making a powerful decision to protect herself and put an end to the turmoil.

[edit]In June 2023, it was announced that Good, Hardrict, and several other actors were cast in the film.[2]

Reception
[edit]On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 0% of 17 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 3.0/10.[4]
Andrew Lawrence of The Guardian gave the film one star out of five.[5] Mary Kassel of Screen Rant awarded the film two stars out of five.[6] Barry Levitt of The Daily Beast gave the film a negative review and wrote, "Good has been great for a long time, and while she can't save Divorce, her performance is a reminder that she's more than worthy of leading roles."[7]
