History
[edit]CSM Roman was founded in 1954 as Laminorul Roman by the syndicate of the Întreprinderea de Țevi Roman (Roman Pipe Enterprises, currently Mittal Steel) and played for twenty years in the regional and county championship.
The club promoted for the first time in Divizia C at the end of the 1973–74 season, winning the Neamț County Championship and the promotion play-off against the champion of Iași County, Șoimii Iași (2–1 at Roman and 1–1 at Iași), the team was composed of following players: A.Bălan, Niserciu (goalkeepers) – Musceleanu, C.Iamandi, Onu, Procopoaia, Ene, Ciocârlan, Tudosie, Mircea, Maticiuc, N.Iamandi, Dinu, Peisic, Ivanov.[1]
Țevarii played in Divizia C for sixteen consecutive years until the 1989–90 season when was ranked 16th and relegated to Divizia D – Neamț County. In these years, he managed to finish the championship four times in 2nd place.
In the next season he returned quickly to the 3rd tier, but, despite the 6th position at the end of the 1991–92 season, he was relegated again because the Divizia C was restructured and only just first four ranked from every series remained in the third division.
Laminorul won the next two seasons of the Neamț County Championship, each time missing out the promotion, in 1992–93 against ASA Rapid Miercurea Ciuc (0–4 away and 0–1 at Roman) and 1993–94 after the matches against Mobila Iași (4–1 at home and 1–3 at Iași) finishing below the sixteen teams with the best aggregate results. For the pipefitters followed two consecutive seasons in which finished each time in the second place behind Cimentul Bicaz.
After five seasons in the fourth tier, Laminorul won the 1996–97 season of Divizia D – Neamț County and the promotion play-off against Metalul Botoșani, the winner of Divizia D – Botoșani County, 8–2 on Emil Alexandrescu Stadium in Iași. The squad coached by Nicolae Zaharia was composed of: Simionaș (46 Ionuț Nacu) - Costin, Claudiu Martin (40 Marius Tofan), Viorel Mocanu, Cristian Vizitiu - Corneliu Codreanu, Lucian Zaharia (82 Colobanea), Lucian Cozma, Gabriel Țapu - Bogdan Vizitiu, Ciprian Țigănuș.[2]
The pipefitters achieved two successive promotions, winning the Series I of Divizia C in the following season, under the leadership of two coaches, Nicolae Zaharia in tour and Ioan Radu in retour, surpassing Chimica Târnaveni by 11 points.[3][4]
In the first appearance in second division, Laminorul finished 5th at the end of the 1998–99 season, the club's all-time-highest place. In the following season, after a strong debut, the pipefitters managed to finish 8th at the end of the championship.
Daniel Iftodi became player-coach of Laminorul in July 2006, guiding the team to finish the 2006–07 Liga III season on 13th place. His assistant, Dan Dosan, was put in charge for the following season, leading the club to 15th place narrowly saved from relegation.[5][6]
In July 2008, Costel Enache was appointed as the new head coach of Laminorul. Enache led the team for three seasons, finishing each time at the top of the league table; 6th in the 2008–09 season and 3rd in the 2009–10 and 2010–11 seasons. During this time the club changed its name, in the summer of 2009, from FC Laminorul Roman to SCM Petrotub Roman.[7][8]
In the summer of 2016, the club changed its name from SCM Petrotub Roman to CSM Roman.
On 31 October 2018, it was announced that CSM Roman withdrew from Liga III due to poor results.[9]
The football section was re-founded in 2021 and enrolled in the Liga IV – Neamț County.
