Colón is a town in the Venezuelan Andean state of Táchira. This town is the shire town of the Ayacucho Municipality and, according to the 2001 Venezuelan census, the municipality has a population of 48,982.[1]
Climate[edit]
Colón has a tropical rainforest climate (Köppen: Af)[2] with consistently warm temperatures throughout the year. The average high temperature for the year is 26.1 °C (79.0 °F), and the average low temperature is 20.2 °C (68.4 °F). Colón experiences significant rainfall throughout the year, with a peak in October and November, amounting to a yearly average of 1485.9 millimeters (58.50 inches).[3]

Demographics[edit]
The Ayacucho Municipality, according to the 2001 Venezuelan census, has a population of 48,982 (up from 41,404 in 1990). This amounts to 4.9% of Táchira's population.[4] The municipality's population density is 262.1 people per square mile (101.20/km2).[1]
Government[edit]
Colón is the shire town of the Ayacucho Municipality in Táchira. The mayor of the Ayacucho Municipality is Gabino Paz Guerrero, reelected in 2004 with 47% of the vote.[5] The last municipal election was held in October 2004.
