Sana Makbul Khan (born 13 June 1993), known professionally as Sana Makbul, is an Indian model and actress who mainly works in Hindi television along with Telugu films and Tamil Films. She is best known for her role as Dr. Aliya Kothari (née Sanyal) in Colors TV supernatural drama Vish.[1] Makbul made her film debut in 2014 with the Telugu film Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya. In 2021, she participated in the stunt-based show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 11, and emerged as a semifinalist.[2][3] Makbul is currently a contestant on the reality TV show, Bigg Boss OTT Season 3.[4]

Early life

Sana Khan (later Makbul) was born on 13 June 1993[5] in Bombay, Maharashtra.[6] She completed her schooling from Mumbai Public School, and she pursued graduation from R. D. National College in Mumbai, Maharashta. Her mother is a Malayali from Kerala and father from Mumbai.

In 2022, she posted on her official Instagram account that she had undergone surgery following a dog bite to her face.[7][8]

Makbul began her career in modeling, which led to opportunities in advertisements and TV shows. Her first significant television appearance came in 2009 with the reality show MTV Scooty Teen Diva.[9] She then transitioned to scripted television, appearing in the teen musical series Ishaan: Sapno Ko Awaaz De produced by Red Chillies Entertainment Idiot Box for Disney Channel India. Her television career continued to flourish with roles in popular shows Kitani Mohabbat Hai (Season 2 she portrayed Shefali.

From 2011 to 2012, she appeared in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, where she played the role of Lavanya Kashyap. This popular television series aired on Star Plus, and the crime series Arjun in Star Plus which she portrayed Riya Mukherjee opposite Shaleen Malhotra. In 2012, she participated in the Femina Miss India pageant, winning the Femina Miss Beautiful Smile title.

Her film career began in 2014 with the Telugu movie Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya for which she adopted the screen name Sana Makbul.[2] In this debut film, she played Samhitha, an aerobics trainer caught in a love triangle with a father and son.[10] She then signed on for the Tamil crime thriller Rangoon directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, expanding her presence in the South Indian film industry.[11] In 2019, she worked alongside Vishal Vishishtha in the show Vish in Colors TV.[12]

Makbul has also made a mark in the music video industry, showcasing her versatility as a performer. Her foray into music videos began in 2019 when she appeared Khelegi Kya? featuring singer Gajendra Verma, followed by Psycho with Dev Negi. She was also a part of the Mumbai Warriors team in the first season of the reality show Box Cricket League, and in 2016, she was in the Chennai Swaggers team in the Box Cricket League second season.

In 2020, she expanded her music video repertoire by starring in Gallan, a song by Ishaan Khan. Her presence in the music video scene continued into 2022 with her appearance in Ek Tu Hi Toh Hai, performed by Stebin Ben[13]

In 2021, she made her reality TV debut through participation in Colors TV's popular stunt-based show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 11[14] filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, where she emerged as a semi-finalist.[15]

In 2024, she entered Bigg Boss OTT season 3 house on 21 June 2024.[16]
