Specific notable Intamin rides with existing WP articles
[edit]Is there any reason why this template should not include specific notable Intamin rides which already have existing Wikipedia articles (as well as notable Intamin ride types which already have existing Wikipedia articles)? 92.40.210.226 (talk) 21:31, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- If you start adding notable rides, the template will start getting too long. The point of the template is to just have the models. This link, for example, [[Sky Whirl|Triple Ferris Wheell]] would be ok, but the name that appears should be Triple Ferris Wheel because that's the point of the template, to show Intamin models. A link to a specific rides article is only good when it's the only of its kind because there would be no other page for it. Do you understand what I'm saying?--Astros4477 (talk) 22:02, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Disagree it would be too long. How have you determined that it would be too long? Suppose someone made another template for specific notable rides - surely the obvious thing to do then would be to merge the two. 92.40.210.226 (talk) 22:08, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- Intamin has hundreds rides, many of them very notable. Making them into a template would be pointless. All it would be is notable rides. A notable rides list would be ok on the Intamin page, but does not serve a purprose in a template. There is already a notable roller coaster list on the Intamin page, I would support a notable rides list on the Intamin page if you wanted to do so.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:12, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- List of Intamin rides only has 100 bluelinks. That's clearly not too many for a template. 92.40.210.226 (talk) 22:21, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- I don't want to keep arguing but my point is, that does not serve a purpose in a template. The current Intamin template has a link at the top to get to the List of Intamin rides. A template just for notable/all Intamin rides does not serve a purpose. If you still think that a template would be ok for notable/all Intamin rides, I can get a users opinion that is very familiar with stuff related to this and I'll have him post here on what he thinks.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:30, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- This navigation template is titled "Intamin". There are WP articles for Giant Wheel, Mickey's Fun Wheel, and Sky Whirl - and no dedicated articles for those ride types. It makes no sense that the Intamin navigation template does not provide easy navigation direct to those pages. 92.40.210.226 (talk) 22:37, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- I said we could use this, [[Sky Whirl|Triple Ferris Wheell]], to link the articles. I think I understand what your saying. I have went ahead and added specific links, is that what you were talking about?.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:45, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- No, that's not what I'm thinking. It shouldn't be necessary to obfuscate the target just to fit in with unhelpful limitations. Seems you've decided in advance only to list ride types, but haven't allowed for the fact that that's not a helpful limitation in all cases. You've also named the template "Intamin", not "Intamin ride types", though I think the name is correct and it's the limitations you want to impose that are wrong. 92.40.210.226 (talk) 22:59, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
I believe to include all of the links on List of Intamin rides would be too much, however, I could see a selection of notable rides included in the template. For starters you could have the following:
- Formula Rossa - world's fastest coaster
- Kingda Ka - world's tallest coaster
- Colossus (Thorpe Park) - most inversions
- The Giant Drop - world's tallest drop tower
- Tower of Terror II/Superman: Escape from Krypton - world's fastest reverse launch
- Thirteen (roller coaster) - first coaster with a freefall drop
