Battle of Lepanto
[edit]Shouldn't the battle of Lepanto be near the end of the template, seeing as how it is the least significant in this series? -- LightSpectra (talk) 02:53, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Some argue that Lepanto was crucial in establishing the Marian prayers in general, and rosary along with them. The Lepanto page itself is too short on details. If you see the RC Mariology article, Lepanto gives a background. That is a point often missed about Marian devotions. See Our Lady of the Rosary for importance of Lepanto, which was the start of the feast day.
I have to go offline now.... Let us talk tomorrow. My suggestion:
- A background section: BVM, Lepanto, Lady of Rosary.
- Mysteries spelled out, maybe Methods along with it
- Beliefs and promises: together
- Rosary-based and Methods
- The writings probably needs two sections: papal and books
- People and orgs need to be separate, e.g. OLRM is not a person.
Given that Rosary of Holy Wounds is one of several, why does it get special treatment. I actually created teh Holy Wounds Rosary page, and I like that rosary, but some may say, why is it different, e.g. chaplet of divine mercy? Same for Seraphic....
Anyway, I think you did well to start teh template. I hope yu don't mind my suggestions. Cheers History2007 (talk) 03:04, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm concerned that making this template too long will disrupt all of the articles the template is in. Though I think the Holy Wounds Rosary should stay, since it's a modification. I'm good for deleting the Seraphic item, though, since it's technically not a part of the Rosary but a whole new prayer. -- LightSpectra (talk) 03:35, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- No worries, it can even take less Real Estate if we make the lines closer and the font like the Marian Prayers template. Please see how that template managed font size and lines to get more into the space. And as in the Mariology templates we can always group items without lines.... Reminds me of my semiconductor days... Also please see the discussion page on the template for Roman Catholicism. The same issues were discussed there, including optometry! Please do look at that template as well and the talk page as an idea. Anyway, I have to go now... until tomorrow... Cheers History2007 (talk) 04:10, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Efficiency/Space Optimization
[edit]Hi, I made a test version here on the talk page. It has the same info, but is slightly narrower and about 20% or so shorter, so it should fit better on all pages. The only item I did not add was Lepanto, because I realized that you were right in that the Lepanto Wkiki article is sadly inadequate. I plan to add a whole new section to the Rosary page about how Lepanto made the feast happen and teh feast implied papal approval and gave both the rosary and Mariology a springboard. However, until that happens the Lepanto entry leads to nothing of significance, as you said. Please comment on this lower footprint reshuffle. Thanks. History2007 (talk) 09:51, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- A few things; the font seems too big now, and the writings need to be italicized. The mysteries should be in the same section as "prayers & promises". I also thought maybe that the top section could read something like "Our Lady of the Rosary (Battle of Lepanto)", since the two are related. -- LightSpectra (talk) 19:25, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- No worries, I can reduce the font. I tried 13 and seemed too small, so I will use 14 now, it was 15 before your comment. But I have found that some older users find the smaller fonts and pictures too hard to see. So if those are the only things, I will test that on the real page now. I will soon beef up the religious section on the Lepanto page. It will probably be a battle in itself, so please do feel free to say a rosary or two for its success. Cheers. Adjustment of rosary photo caption
[edit]It currently reads: "A Catholic rosary."
Per WP:CAPFRAG, because it is not a complete sentence, it should read: "A Catholic rosary" (in other words, without a period.)
I could make this change, but have never edited a template before; given the importance of this template I would not want to cause any unforeseen problem.
It doesn't seem like it's any more difficult than editing any other caption, but if it is, could someone please make the edit? If not, just let me know and I will be glad to make the edit.
Thanks! 1980fast (talk) 01:52, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
