I'm not sure all of the localities mentioned actually exist. Looking on Google Maps, I could only the find the ones highlighted in green:

Glenburn - A road (Glenburn Pl) in ChCh Glentui Horrellville - Doesn't appear as a (minor) town in gMaps, but several businesses have it in their address, i.e. Elite Asphalt, 2448 Tram Rd, Horrellville 7475 Kairaki Beach Lees Valley Loburn Loburn North - Listed in gMaps as part of Loburn

The Waimakariri District's border goes along the edges of (from North, clockwise): Lees Valley, Okuku Range, Loburn, Sefton, Waikuku Beach, Waikuku, Pegasus, Woodend Beach, The Pines Beach, Kairaki, Kaiapoi, Clarkville, Swannanoa, Eyrewall Forest, Burnt Hill, and View Hill. The towns in the middle are Glentui, Okuku, Fernside, Rangiora, Ashley, Tuahiwi, Woodend, Flaxton, Ohoka, Cust, West Eyreton, Oxford, Coopers Creek, and Starvation Hill.
In alphabetical order, they are:

Ashley Burnt Hill Clarkville Coopers Creek Cust Eyrewell Forest Fernside Flaxton Glentui Kaiapoi Kairaki Lees Valley Loburn Ohoka Okuku
Okuku Range Oxford Pegasus Rangiora Sefton Starvation Hill Swannanoa The Pines Beach Tuahiwi View Hill Waikuku Beach Waikuku West Eyreton Woodend Woodend Beach

I will be creating the pages for these towns {if they don't have them) in the next few days, then changing the template to just these towns after that if no-one disputes the change. File:Waimakariri District - towns on the border.png

New parts

[edit]

After doing the editing above, I will add schools, facilities, and locations, such as Rangiora High School, Dudley Park, Rangiora, and Ashley River / Rakahuri. Ollieinc (talk) 02:11, 28 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Ashley Estuary appears to be missing, or do you not think that it's notable in its own right? Schwede66 18:14, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've added that in. Thanks for the tip --Ollieinc (talk) 20:49, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Shall we team up for writing an article about Ashley Estuary? I could get my hands onto good photos, I think. Schwede66 01:00, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No thanks - I'm doing too many other things at the moment. Ollieinc (talk) 01:50, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest that primary schools be removed from the navbox. They are generally not notable and none of the ones listed here has its own article, but they all redirect. So what is the point in having them in the navbox? Schwede66 18:51, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Categories in infoboxes

[edit]

Please do not force articles into categories by linking the cats on infoboxes! It makes the subcategorising of articles a very long, tedious process. Case in point - I have just made a category for Rangiora. In order to take articles out of the Waimakariri category and put them in the subcategory for Rangiora, I had to remove the category from the template, then edit every article in the Waimak category, adding in either the Waimakariri District category or the Rangiora category by hand, rather than simply change the category on the ten or so Rangiora articles. Thankfully, this was not a big category to do this to, but if it had been for a category with, say, 200 articles, it would have been a nightmare. Also, it categorised every article marked with the template as being in the Waimakariri District category - some of them shouldn't have been in there (e.g., bios of individual mayors of Waimakariri), but there was no way of removing them without removing the template. Grutness...wha? 13:25, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

sorry! Ollieinc (talk) 03:43, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New separate template for Waimakariri placenames

[edit]

I don't want to meddle around, but I believe that the part that displays populated places (major towns & settlements and minor rural localities & communities) within Waimakariri District deserves its own separate template; while the rest remain the same, but just under a new name or sub-name. Any thoughts or ideas? jlog3000 (talk) 18:42, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me. If the same list of names gets called by two templates, then that list should be a template itself so that there's just one file to maintain. All the NZ by-election templates are set up like that. Schwede66 19:12, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Sounds understandable. Heck, I even like recently re-edited the populated place parts by current ward & sub-division; just to slowly start my process of organizing every template of each & every territorial authority unit within New Zealand. I also sort of re-modified a bit on others such as of Hurunui District; and have in mind on re-modifying on other similar T.A.U.s in the future. The hardest challenge for me would be involving the ones with the populated places within current wards & local boards of the current super-city of the Auckland Council; as well as those in their former state as separate territorial authority units within the Auckland Region before the November 1 2010 amalgamation. jlog3000 (talk) 19:44, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Johnluisocasio Thanks for your email, but as it's not private in nature, I shall engage with you via talk pages. This may not be the right place to have this exchange. I suggest you post something in Wikipedia:New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board if you'd like broader input. Schwede66 18:19, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Schwede66 How can I exactly do that? I just need a head start. Because my intention is not to ever spam or cause malice in regards to based on what I explained on my previous responses. jlog3000 (talk) 18:27, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
