Block[edit]

Hello. I have blocked editing from this account for Disruption on HTC Wizard. Basically we have resumed edit warring after the protection has expired. Please use the talk page for content disputes rather than reverting each others changes. To contest this block use the {{unblock|your reason here}} template on this page. Regards, Navou banter 04:04, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{tl:unblock|Despite several attempts at discussion in the talk page, the other user refuses to participate. Ironically, the anonymous user claims that any revert of his edits should be discussed, however he never participates. The only alternative I have is to revert the edit because this has already been discussed several times and there is a consensus among the other wikipedians that this shouldn't be there. I really want to discuss this, and have done so, but I can't help that the other user refuses to participate. }}

Regarding Third Opinions[edit]

Hi. Wikipedia:Third opinion is probably not the proper avenue for revolving your dispute with 122.160.82.88 regarding HTC Wizard, since more than two editors seem to be involved already and since the primary problem is that one of the involved editors is refusing to discuss the situation. As the page indicates, third opinion "requires good faith and civility on both sides of the dispute", and unfortunately you don't seem to have that. :/ I have left a message for the user at User talk:122.160.82.88 advising of our policies on Wikipedia:consensus and tendentious editing and requesting that he or she discuss these changes on the talk page before implementing them. If he persists without an effort to establish consensus, you may wish to follow the recommended steps at disruptive editing by considering Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts or Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct. (The requisite steps to follow prior to pursuing that are listed here.) Good luck with resolving this. --Moonriddengirl 15:50, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help on Windows Mobile needed ...[edit]

Dear Brian, we have some discussions with one wiki moderator and need help from independent Windows Mobile expert. May I ask you one question - what are popular Windows Mobile websites that you know? Thank you, Victor —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shab victor (talkcontribs) 18:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If we're talking about appropriate External links to include, we should look at Wikipedia's guidelines on external links sections. From these guidelines, we know that External links should be kept to a minimum. Thus, just because a site is popular, doesn't mean it should necessarily be included. Where is this discussion taking place? Which links are in question? Thanks! Brianreading 21:10, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:UH Fight Song.ogg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:UH Fight Song.ogg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:23, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: WikiProject University of Houston[edit]

Sure, I would be interested in participating. I think the most important thing is to define the scope of this project. Do we want a project for the University of Houston or the University of Houston System. If we decide on just University of Houston, then the project should clearly define that and guidelines should be set to state that other articles related to UH–Clear Lake, UH–Downtown, or UH–Victoria are not part of the scope. I prefer a project just for the University of Houston, but also see that this will be problematic as other editors will argue that three other UH System institutions should be part of the project as well since they bear "University of Houston" in their name.

I guess before moving forward, we need to decide what to call the project in accordance with the scope:

WikiProject University of Houston or WikiProject University of Houston System.

I think you should post on the talk pages of Houston and Texas so other editors will be aware of this proposed project.

I read your userpage and noticed that you went to Clements HS! I went and graduated from there as well.

RJN 18:06, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer a University of Houston only project also, but I certainly see your point! However, I'd honestly think it'd be a better idea to deal with those cases of editors trying to include the rest of the UH System in the scope on an individual basis. My reasoning for this stems from the fact that I don't believe we'll get a lot of these editors often because the other UH System school articles are seldom edited. So, with your willingness to join a UH project, I will get started on creating one. However, I will heed your advice and post on the talk pages for UH, Houston, and Texas. This will allow for more exposure of this project to those who would be interested but otherwise wouldn't know.
Clements was surely a great high school to graduate from. I'm proud to have my diploma from there.
Brianreading 19:26, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great! My only concern is that someone will start tagging all UH System articles with the WikiProject University of Houston template. I wouldn't want to get into an edit war over this by removing them and having to explain that other three UH System institutions are not branch/extension campuses of UH.
When did you graduated from CHS? I graduated in 2002 from CHS and 12/2006 from UH. —RJN 21:26, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I guess somewhere on the project page, we'll have to include a little tidbit about the scope for the project. That way, we can always refer back to something that existed before the editor started making changes. It's part of good WikiProject etiquette after all to have a well-defined scope.
Anyway, yeah. I gradated from Clements in 2003, so it looks like you were a year ahead of me. I'm planning on graduating from UH around late '08 or mid '09. —Brianreading 21:42, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brian, Thanks for the invitation to join the UH project. At this time I'm not sure I can put a lot of energy into this effort, but I will definitly watch the project page and may jump in to a few articles I spot needing work. Thank you for organizing this and putting time into the UH articles. I used to watch the UH pages closely but was turned off a bit when someone came through and nominated every image for deletion. I'll try to get interested again. --Rgb9000 16:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

UTSA[edit]

I don't know how much more "sources" you need for alumni like Devin Brown whos jersey is hanging in the convo, how much more do you need for something like that?

Someone running across a Wikipedia article doesn't know things like that. Putting things up that are contentious based on personal experience constitutes as original research. If these alumni are in fact from UTSA, it should be simple to find that written in an independent source somewhere. Luckily, another user has done this for you, and it has made the article much more credible now. By the way, I'm a UTSA alum too, so I'm not just picking on UTSA. Houston Cougars Football[edit]

Excellent work! You requested an updated assessment, and I'm happy to give it. The highest rating I can offer without a formal review process is a B-class assessment, but I'd strongly suggest adding more in-line citations and submitting this for GA review. It's very good in the prose department, as best as I can tell from a quick look. If you can add those in-line citations, there's absolutely no reason this article couldn't reach good status. Great work! JKBrooks85 (talk) 11:09, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind words. Adding in-line citations has been something I've wanted to do more of. It can be difficult finding sources for the early years of the team, if you know of any, feel free to add. Thanks again. Brianreading (talk) 16:01, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
With older items, off-line sources are usually your best bet. If there's a book or two detailing the history of the Cougars, that'd be the best way to go. Just throw the bibliographic citation at the bottom, then use a "Miller, p. 37"-type cite in-line. I've also found that academic databases have been a big help as well, particularly ones like NewsBank; those generally cover from the mid-1980s to the present day, though I'd suggest using clickable online cites for more current items. Good luck with it. JKBrooks85 (talk) 20:09, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As per other 2008-09 bowl game entries, the full name of the school (such as the University of Houston Cougars) is standardized in all stories such as the 2008 Armed Forces Bowl. After all, they are college football games. In the future, if you wish to avoid editing wars, may i suggest you take it up with moderators. thank you. NoseNuggets (talk) 5:48 AM US EST Dec 26 2008.

Well, to be honest, I just can't see a grammatical reason for it. The example template doesn't have italics either. Brianreading (talk) 18:23, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. It's no big deal. I'll probably just skip it from now on. →Wordbuilder (talk) 20:09, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Yahoo Messenger for Mac.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yahoo Messenger for Mac.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

For example, if you take a look at Template:NBA seasons or "Category:National Basketball Association season by team templates," you will see that each NBA season (and individual team seasons) all now use the long dash opposed to a short dash. I realize that most of the college teams are using the short dash for 2008-09, but there are also a handful using the long dash (e.g. 2008–09 IUPUI Jaguars men's basketball team, 2008–09 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team, etc.).

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Appstore?[edit]

Hey the other day you told be about using the logos from the appstore for iphone games. How do you get into sections of the store, im thinking that i need to install itunes but i aint going to do that. Am i doing something wrong here??? Main reasons im asking is because i was going to upload the infobox image for the game Metal Gear Solid Touch, but couldnt get the games page on the appstore. Thanks if you can help. Salavat (talk) 15:42, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is no hard and fast way to get the image. It is possible to retrieve a 512x512px '.png' icon from a game '.ipa' file by renaming it a '.zip' file, and then unzipping it. However, the icon that is retrieved this way does not have the rounded corners, nor the gloss given to icons on the App Store. The reason why is that this is all done on the fly by both the iPhone OS and the App Store/iTunes.
It is possible to manually add these effects to the icon, but just doing the smoothing on the corners is easiest. Basically, what I've done is, in iTunes snap a screenshot of the icon, by clicking the album art in the left side bar, and bringing up a larger view. Right-click the large image, and make sure it says "Actual Size" before taking the screenshot. Next, I import this image with a photo editor like Photoshop into a blank document with a transparent background, and crop the image to just the icon. I then use the smooth selection tool to get the make the rounded corners. You need a radius of 89px.
If you can find a game icon with transparent background out there on the web to use, it would be even easier. However, this is rare to find.
It was once possible to browse the App Store from third-party websites that had set up the ability to see that content, but I don't know if they're around anymore, and what their names are. Why so adamant about not installing iTunes? It doesn't contain any spyware or add-ons, nor does it interfere with Windows Media Player or whatever media player you use. Apple's software, in my opinion is some of the cleanest out there for Windows.

James Coney Island: First Houston Hot Dog Vendor?[edit]

You wrote "The original James Coney Island restaurant was the first major hot dog vendor in Houston." However, I can't find this in any of the sources cited, so I tagged it {{fact}}. Have I missed it? Thanks.—C45207 | Talk 07:43, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Check the source for the sentence previously before it. The article from the Chronicle claims that "the hot dog hit the big time here [in Houston] in 1923, when brothers James and Tom Papadakis opened James Coney Island on downtown's Rusk Street." I took that to mean that it was the first major hot dog vendor in Houston. Brianreading (talk) 07:46, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

David Dewhurst[edit]

Hi, I'm wondering why you reverted my edit to the David Dewhurstarticle, it said he was in office "2003-present". I believe that we are both veteran Wikipedians, who know that an an elected official currently in office should not have anything written next to the "term end" space in the info box. --71.235.32.22 (talk) 20:45, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! I'm not aware of any such format described in the template documentation. Can you refer me to this? The combination of a blank edit summary (especially from an anonymous user) and absent documentation on the matter made me think your edit was vandalism. That's why it was reverted. On a side note, upon examining your address, it appears that you've only made a total of 75 edits to Wikipedia all within a 6 month time span. Do you have a dynamic IP address or a registered account with Wikipedia? Not that it really matters, but it just appeared odd. Brian Reading (talk) 21:10, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you were to look at other elected official articles, you will see what I mean. I previously had an account, user:bobsmith319. I recently registered to a new account, user:matt319 because I purposely changed my password without looking out of a fit of frustration with another user.
Sorry, but other articles aren't a definitive standard for how to format an article. It's the agreed upon documentation that is available which dictates that. If Wikipedia were to go by the former standard, then most articles would follow a terrible format as most of Wikipedia is stubs, etc. Basically, I don't follow your logic. Brianreading,

Thanks for you message. I have actually done a study on this organization for school and wanted to post more information on it for others. I think it's an interesting organization, especially since it's based in Texas and concerns Human Rights. I don't have an relations to the organization other than the research I did on it for school. I'm glad you are open to help here on Wikipedia. After all, this is a community project. As someone who has been here a little while, I recommend that one of the first things you do with your article is cite reliable sources to establish notability. These are two of the most important concepts here, and most administrators will look for this when they decide an article should be deleted or not. Check out this section of the style guide to determine how to properly cite your sources in the article. As far as you having no connection to the organization, that is actually a very good thing here, as Wikipedia takes conflict of interest concerns seriously. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I'm here to help. Brian Reading (talk) 21:21, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony Ausgang[edit]

Brianreading,

Thank you for your comment "Delete. Huge COI, fails WP:BIO. Brian Reading (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC" in regards to the entry for Anthony Ausgang. In defense of "conflict of interest" I would just like to say that there was an entry for Anthony Ausgang for several years and it was removed at the beginning of this month for lack of references and copyright violations. That first entry was posted by an unknown agent, and not an employee Anthony Ausgang's or by the artist himself. The new entry has fixed these errors with the help of Anthony Ausgang. There is no hype involved in this entry and Wikipedia is not being used for self promotion. As you can see from the partial bibliography there is public interest in this artist and this is not a vanity entry. Thank you. Ausganger (talk) 07:11, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, but it was also deleted for a reason, and it's still a conflict of interest. Also, are you speaking in third-person? Brian Reading (talk) 19:20, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brianreading, why do you think the article for Pigeon Poo should be deleted? The game is available on the AppStore and has an official page on the software house' website. Thanks in advance for your answer. Billx (talk) 07:08, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Those two aspects don't qualify it for notability. If it's not verifiable through many reliable sources, then it just doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Thanks. Brian Reading (talk) 19:25, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Windows Mobile 6.5 Article[edit]

I was Reading you comments on the rolback history of WinMo6.5, while i agree with your rollback to the 6.1 home screen i wanted to clear some things up. Winmo 6.5 has reached the RTM phase, however there are two phases labeled as RTM in the windows world. Release To Manufacturers and release to Market. Right Now as it stands WinMo is only in the release to manufactures stage, it is expected to be released in September. I felt i should notify you of this image's status since i am the creator of the screenshot, and it seams as though you are the controlling user the windows mobile article. and no that screenshot dose not contain any major customizations what you see in that image is what will come out in September. Thank you for your time --Koman90 (talk) 01:16, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to leave me this message. I do not control the article any more than any other users, but I've also been discussing the changes in the talk page. My main reasoning for supporting the 6.1 screenshot is that the 6.5 screenshot should contain no customizations. This is to keep the clarity of the topic as much as possible. Please weigh in on the discussion on the talk page if you haven't already. Thanks again. Brian Reading (talk) 14:52, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

I suggest you go to law school before you start to dispense copyright legal advice. Since I don't know what the source material you believe is copyrighted, I can't determine whether the source was copyrighted. Next, you must determine who is the copyright holder and the relationship with the person posting to wikipedia. Assuming the source is copyrighted and its author is not posting to wikipedia, you must next perform an analysis to determine whether the use is a "fair use" allowed by the copyright laws. Since you claim that two different literary expressions are both copyrighted, I suspect that you are mistakenly assuming that copyright protects underlying facts — instead of just the literary expression of those facts or ideas. I suggest that the next time you find a passage that you feel is a copyright violation, you rephrase it. I also suggest that you review WP:OWN Racepacket (talk) 16:33, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but ripping word for word text from a news article for that purpose is a copyright violation whether you like it or not. It wasn't even very good information, as it even simply repeated some of the same facts. I needn't attend law school to understand how copyright policies apply here at Wikipedia, and I recommend that you remain civil. I don't care to own articles, and if I did, I wouldn't be contributing to Wikipedia. I support the goal of the project, hence why I care about enforcing its policies, including those regarding copyrights. Brian Reading (talk) 07:14, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Facts are not copyrighted, literary expression is copyrighted. Therefore of the two versions, one would not be a copyright infringement, by definition. Racepacket (talk) 19:59, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll discontinue this conversation now. The text has been reworded enough for a common ground. In the future I recommend that you work with the community, or if you have some sort of insight, add it to the WP:Copyrights page. Brian Reading (talk) 02:15, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestions. Again, perhaps it is time for you to do some soul-searching on the WP:OWN front. Racepacket (talk) 15:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What makes you think I claim ownership of the articles I contribute to? I'd do the same regarding copyright violations on any article I see on Wikipedia. Honestly, if I really felt like I should be the sole controller of content for an article, I wouldn't be writing it on Wikipedia. I have a bit more common sense than that. Again, I understand the goals of the project. Honestly, I think it's you who will need to get a better grasp of community skills, particularly WP:CIVIL. If a copyright violation arises, one that is certainly not cut and dry, you'll need to explain your reasoning for adding this back to the article. Copyright violations are to be handled seriously in this project. Brian Reading (talk) 17:58, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To answer your question, WP:OWN address emotional ownership of articles and states, "If this watchfulness starts to become possessiveness, then you may be overdoing it." I am sorry if I came across in any way as uncivil, but repeated deletion of different literary expressions as each being a copyright violation is not civil either. By the way, my source was another wiki, not the New York Times. Racepacket (talk) 22:31, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I would take the same action regardless of who wrote the content here. I've even done so in the past. Copyright violations certainly deserve to be repeatedly removed. Removing that which is disallowed on Wikipedia is not typically seen as uncivil behavior no matter how many times it is done. Adding such disallowed material back without explanation usually is. So, I'm still not following the logic you're using to claim that I'm being overprotective of the article. Also, Wikis are generally not reliable sources as per WP:SPS. That text was specifically a word for word rip from the New York Times. Brian Reading (talk) 03:06, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you feel that the subsequent, different versions were word for word? 08:47, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
I honestly don't know what you're talking about. When reposted, it appeared to be the same wording. Brian Reading (talk) 09:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They were different, hence my Aug 3 and 10 comments to you posted above. I have never argued that the material could not be copyrighted because it is factual, I have argued that given different literary expressions of the facts, at least one was not a copyright infringement. But I could not tell because you didn't identify what the alleged copyrighted material was. Racepacket (talk) 12:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Again, it was clear if the lone source was actually read. Honestly, I'm tired of discussing this issue. We've come to a conclusion as far as editing goes. Let's just leave it at that, because we're running in circles. Brian Reading (talk) 02:08, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile IE[edit]

Is there really any serious debate that Mobile IE is remotely comparable to Safari mobile? What source would be acceptable to show this? Eraserhead1 (talk) 20:58, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If by comparable, you mean there is an encyclopedic reasoning behind comparing the two web browsers, then maybe. However, I don't believe this conversation is altogether appropriate on Wikipedia in the Internet Explorer Mobile or Safari articles, as it is off -topic. That is, there is nothing that makes the two worthwhile to be arbitrarily compared when there are many mobile web browsers out there. I believe it would be much more appropriate to include comparisons in an article such as Comparison of web browsers instead. Reviewer opinions are unnecessary at that point. It allows for much less POV. Brian Reading (talk) 22:49, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My point in the article wasn't just comparing IE mobile with Safari, it also applies to all the other Webkit based browsers as well as Opera mobile - which together make up most of IE's competition on the mobile platforms. Eraserhead1 (talk) 18:48, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To add, comparing IE mobile to all of its competition seems worthy for the article Eraserhead1 (talk) 18:54, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it may be worthy to compare, but think about what it turns into. Making a generalized statement comparing IE Mobile to the majority of its competition (Webkit-based or not) takes some POV because it obscures objective facts. This is what reviewers do, but it's not what encyclopedia editors do. It doesn't tell the whole story, and if it did, it would end up being disproportional to the article's main topic. Hence the necessity for a separate article. I think if the information is relevant, but not altogether appropriate, it should be placed in a "See also" section. What's wrong with putting a link to Comparison of web browsers, and let the information be presented in a full, objective manner? Brian Reading (talk) 19:39, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 07:22, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously? You're giving me this automated-style comment within four minutes of me posting content. Are you a bot? Did you really look at my contributions, and think this was appropriate? Give me a break, I was in the process of adding the references when I got this message. I urge you to patrol new page creation from the bottom, rather than the top next time. Thanks. Your actions regarding my edits and others' edits on University of Houston related articles[edit]

You could have shown some courtesy by notifying me when you tagged File:Renu Khator.jpg for speedy deletion due to "copyright violation." The source to the photo contained the following: "These photographs of University of Houston System Chancellor and UH President Renu Khator are approved for public use. We request that the credit line 'Photo Courtesy of UH' be included, if possible." I did not engage in "copyright violation" per the website's message as you claimed in your tagging. You also did not show any courtesy by commenting in the edit summary instead of leaving me a message of the situation. You cannot expect people to "watch" or "patrol" every article they edit or every image they upload. I no longer engage in major editing projects on Wikipedia, and I do not care or have time to "watch" or "patrol" pages.

Instead of accusing the upload as a "copyright violation" regarding the image, you could have engaged in a dialogue with me and/or apply the correct copyright tagging with fair use rationale. The image in question is available for publicity use and it qualifies for fair use instead of requesting it for speedy deletion.

I do not care if the image is deleted even though it qualifies for fair use. I just wanted UH related articles to look good, and I know you would want the same. Moving forward, I would hope that you engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor first if/when you have concerns about the subject in question prior to taking actions on your own by accusing of "copyright violation" or marking it for "speedy deletion."

I have dismissed many of your past actions regarding my edits and others' edits on University of Houston and UHS related articles, but I will no longer tolerate that going forward. You have reverted a lot of my edits and others edits just because you disagree or do not like it for whatever reason. When you revert my edits, you make them look like they were malicious/vandalism by having the following in edit summaries: "Undid revision XXXXXXX by RJN..." In the future, please engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor when the edits are clearly not vandalism instead of leaving your comments in the edit summary. In addition, please refrain from making condescending and superiority comments/remarks in edit summaries when reverting non-vandalism edits. The dialogue or discussion of disagreements can be at the subject in question's talk page or the editor's talk page, instead of comments/remarks in the edit summary.

You have made significant contributions to UH and UHS related articles, and those contributions are much appreciated. However, this does not mean you own these pages and act condescending toward other editors. Your behaviors and reverts on UH and UHS related articles seem to imply that you take ownership of these articles by preventing others from editing.

I apologize if I gave the impression of being discourteous. I meant to actually give you some notification, but it slipped my mind. However, the image is not in public domain, and while I understand your argument of fair use, I don't think it's possible for us to use photographs of living persons under fair use with the current terms of Wikipedia's copyright policy because a free equivalent is possible, albeit difficult to obtain. I checked with the university's public relations department to clear this up, and can provide evidence of such from them if it's helpful. I would like to note that I definitely value your work here on Wikipedia, as you are one of the only other major contributors to University of Houston-related articles.
I also do not intend for my reversions of your content to be considered attempts at reverting vandalism, as I know you are not a vandal. I am simply following my interpretation of Wikipedia's workflow in that performing an undo is a standard practice regardless of intent by the author. This is my purpose for adding comments besides the default ones with each edit summary. I don't mean to imply ownership of these articles. I do understand that they are just as much yours and mine, as anyone else's.
Again, I apologize for any misunderstandings, and remain willing to discuss any edits in the future.

WIkiProject iPhone OS[edit]

Hello Brianreading,

There hasn't been much activity at WikiProject iPhone OS lately, and I saw your name on the list of active participants. If you are willing to jump in again, please consider helping to revive the project!

  • Put {{WikiProject iPhone OS}} on the talk pages of articles involving iPhone OS. This helps to categorize articles!
  • Write, cleanup, or expand an article about iPhone OS
  • Source a Biography of a living person living in, born in, or otherwise affiliated with iPhone OS
  • Help spread the word about the project
  • Update the project page or the portal
  • Watchlist or check the project talk page for updates

If you know anyone who might be interested in iPhone OS, please pass this message along to them! If you are still interested in the project but aren't currently active, please add yourself to the list of inactive participants at the bottom of this list. Thanks!

On behalf of the project, iBen 21:32, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. If you'll scroll up, and read my discussions, I was actually one of the first to propose the project. I do consider myself an active participant of the WikiProject, and will tag all articles I can, starting now. I really do think we need a more defined system to determine importance-level to the platform though. If you see my user page, you can see the contributions I've made to iPhone OS-related articles. I will make sure to communicate this better on the project page. Thanks for your interest! Brian Reading (talk) 23:19, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've since overhauled the importance scale for the WikiProject. Brian Reading (talk) 01:27, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

February 2010[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. iBen 23:47, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please don't spam my talk page with this. I've been here for five years, and it's obvious that I know this information. I purposely did not sign the talkback template that I used on your talk page because it is already inherently signed in the text. Thanks. Brian Reading (talk) 04:40, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

UH System and UHCLC[edit]

I just uncovered a long-standing misinterpretation regarding the history of the UH System. UHCLC was established by the Texas Legislature in 1971 as a "separate and distinct"[1] degree-granting institution since its creation.[2] So when the UH System was established in 1977, it had two freestanding universities: UH and UHCLC. Only Downtown College and Victoria Center were branch campuses of UH. I have made appropriate changes at respective articles and removed the UH System timeline image that I had uploaded. Hopefully, I can create another one similar since I don't have access to Visio anymore. Anyway, I just thought you'd want to know. —RJN (talk) 13:36, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I can't believe we missed that after all this time! Thanks for clearing that up! Brian Reading (talk) 16:01, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
