Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lean years.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lean years.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:32, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I haven't looked at the page in a while, but I'd be interested in helping. I'll put a couple suggestions on the talk page, because I don't think I know the terminology to write about animation. ike9898 (talk) 15:12, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

June 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to KDVS, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. It is the responsibility of the editor which adds (or readds) material to provide references. See WP:PROVEIT Rtphokie (talk) 16:11, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal discussion resumed[edit]

Hi.

I'm contacting you because you were involved in the discussion concerning the renaming of the lists of basic topics.

I ran into resistance when I attempted to rename the set.

Therefore, the name change hasn't been completed, because the previous discussion wasn't widespread enough, nor announced in enough places.

I've submitted a new proposal at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Proposal to rename the pages called List of basic x topics to Topic outline of x.

Curtis, Bok, etc[edit]

I noticed you making some good contributions to these articles. It would be helpful if you could add references to the sources you are using for the information. ike9898 (talk) 00:51, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I have just begun with this group because the history of several of these people is interwoven in different sources, most of which already are cited in a couple of the articles... my first step requires assembling the data for each individual article. I plan to add the references later, where they will be most functional and avoiding constant repetition. I'll be working on these for quite a while and will place the references when I begin to polish. -- 83d40m (talk) 22:20, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will review those associated articles as well, because I like to see all related ones in agreement and contributing to the knowledge of a topic for our readers. 83d40m (talk) 22:48, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dubbo Terraced Houses[edit]

Any reason why you would want to delete my photo "Dubbo Terraced Houses"? I took the photo last year and added it to the page for Dubbo New South Wales, then also posted a copy to "Terraced House" in the Australian section as it is of interest to terraced house enthusiasts in general. Please explain. Cheers MichaelGG - --MichaelGG (talk) 12:47, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You mean " Image:Terrace in Dubbo New South Wales.jpg "? It's still there. A while back there was a group project that I participated in that eliminated duplicate pictures, meaning that there was more than one copy of the exact same picture uploaded. The intent was to only eliminate duplicates that were not used in any article. It's possible I goofed. ike9898 (talk) 16:08, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, Ike - I had received a 'bot' message no doubt generated by your project. Obviously a good idea to remove 'dead' material clogging up good ol' Wikipedia's hard drives. Will keep an eye on the two pictures involved. Cheers mate --MichaelGG (talk) 01:17, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:FFA logo.jpg)[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:FFA logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Number of attributed deaths to swine flu in Mexico[edit]

I changed that number back to 152 because there is no mention of 126 anywhere in the refs listed. The newest one says 152 attributed deaths in Mexico. Nskrill (talk) 21:17, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All I did was change the number of attributed deaths in Mexico to 152 after someone changed it to 126 without backing up the change. And yes, you did change it back to 126 after I changed it, see here. Nskrill (talk) 21:24, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You changed a lot more than the number on that edit. See this diff. Since you made so many unconstructive changes without providing a rationale, I reverted your whole edit. That's the only time an edit of mine changed one of the numbers. ike9898 (talk) 21:32, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That is very strange, I did in fact only change the number. You probably made an edit while I was editing the number and the software did not pick up the conflict. I will now change the number back to 152. Nskrill (talk) 21:37, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Underground comix[edit]

Hi. You may recall me from some exchanges a few years back, mostly about comics and Kim Deitch. Flu template unprotection[edit]

Hi there, the decision to protect rather than block was based on reading the talkpage, rather than just the article history. See the repeated MfD discussions on this template - this has been a long-running controversial issue. Thankfully the current RfC seems to have come to a clear consensus, so I have closed it and would have unprotected the article this morning anyway. It would have been nice however for you to drop me a note on my talkpage telling me that you'd unprotected the page - but hopefully the problem has been dealt with for now. All the best Tim Vickers (talk) 16:58, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that's fine, but I think it is a useful courtesy to tell another admin whenever you reverse their decisions, but as you say that's possibly not so critical with page protection. Anyway, enjoy your weekend! Tim Vickers (talk) 18:52, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 873 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. License tagging for File:Tounge.xcf[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Tounge.xcf. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Ike9898,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)

The article Hedonism Resorts has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Was proposed in 2006 to be DELETED when there were two resorts for nudists in Jamaica. Hedonism III is now closed and has been re-branded to Family Fun Resort. Logic for keeping an advertisement for SuperClubs no longer seems valid.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File:Tounge.tif missing description details[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Tounge.tif is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 03:03, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Hopalong Cassidy -30.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Hopalong Cassidy -30.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.  — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:40, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for November 26[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Phosphate buffered saline, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Isotonic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection[edit]

Hello, Ike9898. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers[edit]

Hi Ike9898.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Technical news

  • A recent query shows that only 16% of administrators on the English Wikipedia have enabled two-factor authentication. If you haven't already enabled it please consider doing so.
  • Cookie blocks should be deployed to the English Wikipedia soon. This will extend the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user after they switch accounts under a new IP.
  • A bot will now automatically place a protection template on protected pages when admins forget to do so.

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
  • The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
  • An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
  • After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.

Technical news

  • After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.
  • Cookie blocks have been deployed. This extends the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user if they switch accounts, even under a new IP.
