Agano Jipya

Agano Jipya ni sehemu ya pili ya Biblia ya Kikristo, ikifuata Agano la Kale: Agano Jipya limefichika katika lile la Kale, na Agano la Kale limedhihirika katika lile Jipya.

Linakusanya vitabu ambavyo Wakristo wote wanaviheshimu kama vitakatifu na vilivyoandikwa baada ya ujio wa Yesu Kristo hadi mwisho wa wakati wa mitume wake.

Vitabu vyake 27 vinaleta habari zake, za mitume wake na za mwanzo wa Kanisa lake.

Vinatakiwa kusomwa kama kilele cha ufunuo wa Mungu kwa binadamu kadiri ya Historia ya Wokovu.

Jina lilitungwa na nabii Yeremia (Yer 31:30) alipotambua kwamba kwa kiasi fulani lile la mlima Sinai lilikuwa na dosari (Eb 8), lakini Mungu kwa uaminifu wake asingeweza kukubali likome tu.

Injili nne zinasimulia habari za maisha na mafundisho ya Yesu na kutangaza hasa kifo na ufufuko wake.

Kuna maandiko 13 kati ya nyaraka yanayomtaja Mtume Paulo kama mwandishi. Wataalamu wa leo hutofautiana kama kweli nyaraka hizi zote zimeandikwa na Paulo mwenyewe. Jina "katoliki" halimaanisha madhehebu ya Kiroma, lakini maana asilia ya neno la Kigiriki "katoliki" ambayo inaweza kutafsiriwa pia "kwa watu wote", au "zilizokubaliwa na wote".
