The 1949 Summer Deaflympics (Danish: 1949 Sommer Deaflympics) officially known as the 6th Deaf Olympiad[1] (Danish: 6. DøveOlympiade)is an international multi-sport event that was held from 12 August 1949 to 16 August 1949. This event was hosted in Copenhagen, Denmark.[2]

The 6th Summer Deaflympics Games were originally scheduled to be held from 30 August to 11 September 1948 in London, but was decided to host it in 1949 due to the schedule of 1948 Summer Olympics. London last hosted the 1935 Summer Deaflympics.

This Deaflympics was held after 10 years since the last edition of the Deaflympics(1939) due to World War II.

Basketball and water polo were added as events for the first time in Deaflympics history.
