Miss Planet International is an annual international beauty pageant run by Miss Planet based in Cambodia. (MPI) is a movement to continue to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and for this reason they have developed a contest program that seeks out ambassadors for each country. To make changes in their society for a better future. To find the perfect miss to represent MPI's mission in conserving our beautiful planet Champion of Miss Planet of the world.[1][2][3][4]

The current Miss Planet International 2023 is Worawalan Phutklang from Thailand. This is the first time Thailand has won a crown and the third edition of Miss Planet International. She won the title on November 19, 2023, held at Koh Pich, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.[5][6][7]

History[edit]

Miss Planet International pageant was created with the common aim of promoting the salvation of the planet and human life in accordance with the common principles of the United Nations. The program has a mission to inspire and empower of the miss who aspire to be good role models for others in the community and around the world by bringing about social change, That will strengthen the cultivation of love for everyone and respect for the environment of the planet as well. The Miss Planet International Beauty Pageant was discovered by Miss Halley Amin as President, the producer and creator of Cambodia's International Beauty Pageant (MPI) in 2019, And Mr. Pedro Francisco as CEO.[8]

The first edition of Miss Planet International pageant was held at the Diamond Island Theater on March 1st, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, There are 39 member countries participating in this competition. Monique Best from South Africa was crowned as Miss Planet International 2019.[9]

Miss Planet International 2019 titleholder was awarded as Youth Ambassador by the Business Chamber of her city and she was recognized with a membership by the Seattle Latino Chamber of Commerce because of her international humanitarian labor.[10]

Miss Planet International During 2020 and 2021, due to the global crisis of the Covid-19 epidemic, MPI did not host the pageant until 2022, when MPI announced its intention to host the Miss Planet International pageant. Uganda, which has 68 member countries already registered during November 2022, but the tournament could not take place as many member countries announced their withdrawal for various reasons. Concerned for their own safety and security about the Ebola outbreak, many candidates withdrew just days before the event, which caused the entire event to collapse and cost about $ 5 million in costs and reservations. Over the cost of accommodation, the entire event planned to be held in Uganda was canceled immediately. The MPI competition moved back to Cambodia during January 2023 at the Diamond Island Theater in Phnom Penh.

Controversy[edit]

MPI 2022 Event Issues

The 2022 event, scheduled to be held in Uganda, was cancelled due to a lack of support from some countries. The originally planned coronation night on November 19th for the pageant was rescheduled due to tensions in Uganda sparked by an Ebola outbreak. These circumstances led local organizers to delay the competition, which Herlene Nicole Budol wasn't initially expected to participate in. The current national license holder of the pageant, Wilbert Tolentino from the Philippines, initiated the claim that MPI broke the agreement while he was the licensee holder at that time.[22][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35]
