Canadian mixed martial arts and Lethwei coach
Patrick Marcil (born June 2, 1975) is a Canadian mixed martial arts and Lethwei coach.[5] He is a sifu (師傅 traditional ) in Fangshendo , a modified form of Jeet Kune Do .[6] His students include Lethwei World Champion Dave Leduc [7] and UFC middleweight fighter Marc-André Barriault .[8]
Background [ edit ] Marcil's coaching was featured in Jet Li 's defunct website,[9] VICE ,[10] Le Droit ,[11] Myanmar Times ,[12] Asia Times ,[1] La Presse ,[13] and Ici Radio-Canada .[14] He trains numerous professional MMA fighters in Gatineau , Quebec, Canada.[15]
Martial arts career [ edit ] In 1994, Patrick Marcil along with brother-in-law Stephane Patenaude opened their first Kung Fu school in Orléans [3] and shortly after, their second school in Gatineau , Quebec .[16] [self-published source ] [17]
In 2003, Marcil fought at World Extreme Battle in Laval, Quebec [6] winning his fight with a TKO at 2:17 in the first round.[6] At 165 pounds, the 26-year-old Marcil was set to fight in the 160lbs category, but instead faced an undefeated 180lb opponent.[18]
Notable students [ edit ] In 2009, Patrick Marcil began teaching Sanshou to Dave Leduc [19] at Kung Fu Patenaude in Gatineau .[2] In the Myanmar Times , Leduc explains how Marcil[10] got him ready for Lethwei [12] [7] by teaching him the principles of Jeet Kune Do .[20]
In 2016, for his fights against Too Too and Tun Tun Min ,[21] Leduc underwent his training camp in Canada with Marcil.[22]
In 2018, Marcil traveled to Myanmar for the first time to corner Leduc against Diesellek TopkingBoxing [23] and returned in December of the same year for Dave Leduc vs. Tun Tun Min III fight, where his student successfully defended his title.[24]
