Criticism

[edit]

This template is, frankly, a mess.

Several of these entries were never independent states -- they were, as far as the historical evidence shows, provinces of Ethiopia. Examples include Bugna, Delanta, & Wolqayt; in fact, these links do not connect to articles on the historical unit, but to articles on the modern geographical location sharing that name. (I'm unsure if there is enough information about the historic unit to be a stand-alone article.) Further, a number of these links are duplicates -- we have three links to the Kingdom of Damon, & two to the wars of conquest by the Imam Gragn. Lastly, a lot of these groupings tread upon controversial grounds where zealous but under-represented groups fight over what Wikipedia should say. While a good idea, there is little I would defend in this template; it is only a matter of when -- not if -- this becomes fodder for a Arbcom case, if they are bold enough to take on a content-related dispute. And, IMHO, only a body like the Arbcom could enforce a consensus on how this template should look & what it should contain. -- llywrch (talk) 01:00, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
