Week 3 / Garnix L
[edit]I edited the Capital Market on Wikipedia by added a citation titled "capital market and long-term finance and saving of community" to support the explanation of capital markets and their role in financial markets. diff link is here.
Through this process, I learned about the importance of proper citation in academic writing and gained a deeper understanding of how capital markets function as channels for community savings to support various economic activities. Garnix L (talk) 16:42, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Garnix L Citations alone generally do not add value. Beyond adding a citation alone, make sure to provide a sentence or two within the article itself to express your contribution in context (which the citation will support). This will demonstrate how your addition adds to the overall knowledge in the article. Please add a sentence or two to the article you edited and then ping me here when done. FULBERT (talk) 22:37, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, professor, thank you for your feedback. I have added new sentence within the article, link is here: diff. Garnix L (talk) 02:11, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

Week 4 / Zhilin0321
[edit]Hi, this week I edited 2 articles. The first is Supply chain management and this is the diff link I added citations in Importance and Supply Chain Resilience. The content highlights that effective supply chain management is vital for organizations to compete in the global marketplace and can help a company improve efficiency to increase performance. Supply chain resilience is something that plays an important role for companies in managing risk.
The second is the designer YSL and this is the diff link. I added his early years, emphasizing the fact that he moved to Paris at age 17 when he won first place in a competition and officially began his career in fashion. This helped to link the context and add to the completeness of his early experiences. At the same time, I added the 2022 exhibition in the Legacy section to further emphasize his influence.
In the process of developing these two articles, I learned about recent trends that emphasize the importance of flexibility and adaptability in managing global supply chains, which involves strategies such as supplier diversification, increasing inventory buffers, and investing in advanced analytics to predict and respond to disruptions. At the same time, I also learned about Yves Saint Laurent’s significant contribution to fashion and the breadth of his influence, which highlight his lasting impact on both high fashion and everyday fashion. ~~~~ Zhilin0321 (talk) 23:35, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

[edit]This week I made two changes on two different articles. In first one Private equity in the 2010s, I added information around the integration of ESG criteria in company strategies which enhanced the discussion on ESG by emphasizing its growing importance in financial institutions' strategies worldwide. The new content highlighted the dual pressures from regulatory demands and investor expectations for incorporating sustainable practices, specifically within private equity and venture capital deals. Difference: [1]. The second article I edited was Egan-Jones Ratings Company, adding context on the relance of ESG scores provided by the rating company. Which stated that in the banking sector, credit ratings and ESG scores are interlinked, influencing banks' capital structure and financial stability. Difference: [2].
This week I learned about the Egan-Jones Rating Company and more about navigating within articles in Wikipedia.

Week 4 / Garnix L
[edit]In the first article, I edited the Economy of Hong Kong on Wikipedia by providing more details about Hong Kong's policy of positive non-interventionism and a citation titled “Negotiating Positive Non-interventionism: Regulating Hong Kong's Finance Companies” to support my explanation. The link is here diff. Through this process, I learned that Hong Kong's economic policy was more complex than pure laissez-faire and that historical context is essential for understanding the nuances of economic policies in practice.
In the second article, I edited the Stock exchange on Wikipedia by adding a sentence highlighting the increased reliance on private equity and venture capital funding for early-stage high-tech companies due to changes in market expectations and provided a relative journal as a citation. The link is here diff. This editing process demonstrated the importance of connecting new information to existing context while maintaining coherence. - @Yz10411 Both of these edits are a bit dramatic with the use of language. OK for now, but in the future remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia WP:ENC, and as such it is important to maintain a neutral point of view WP:NPOV that avoids jargon, opinions, exaggerations, and any claims that are not represented fairly and proportionately. Week 4/ Ryan1232378
[edit]I added two new citations to the Wikipedia page on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The first addition was under the "Common actions" section, where I described the importance of supply chain management in CSR. This includes ensuring responsible procurement practices, avoiding child labor and forced labor, conducting regular social and environmental audits of suppliers, and supporting fair trade practices. These measures can enhance transparency and ethical standards throughout the supply chain. Here is the diff.
The second addition was in Socially responsible investing, under the "In higher education" section, highlighting the University of Edinburgh's responsible investment policy adopted in 2013. This policy made the University of Edinburgh one of the first universities in the United Kingdom to commit to divesting from fossil fuels and increasing investment in renewable energy and sustainable technologies. Here is the diff.
Through this process, I learned the importance of integrating ethical considerations into investment strategies in higher education. This not only aligns investments with institutional values but also sets a precedent for other organizations. Additionally, I discovered the crucial role of supply chain management in ensuring that CSR practices are upheld throughout the entire supply chain, promoting transparency and ethical standards. [edit]In Week 6, the first article I edited was about Denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. Here is the diff. In the History section of this article, I added information about a significant DDoS attack that occurred in early 2024 targeting an Asian hosting provider. The attack, utilizing a Mirai-variant botnet, reached a peak traffic volume of 2 terabits per second (Tbps), highlighting the increased capabilities of modern botnets and the substantial threat they pose to critical infrastructure.
The second article that I edited was about Real Estate bubble, added content about post-COVID-19 U.S. Real Estate Market Trends. Here is the diff. In this article, I discussed the significant rise in home prices following the pandemic, driven by a supply-demand imbalance and increased borrowing costs due to Federal Reserve interest rate hikes.
I learned about the importance of addressing regulatory issues and the challenges involved in summarizing complex market trends while ensuring the credibility of the information by citing reliable sources.

- @Ryan1232378 Please remove the link to the DoS website you added and move that edit to a more appropriate spot on the article as it does not belong on the lead per WP:LEAD, which states that the top, or lead, of an article should identify the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points of the article, without including new information that is not covered in the remainder of the article. Ping me here when done and I will review. FULBERT (talk) 14:53, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
Week 8/ Ryan1232378
[edit]In Week 8, I edited two articles on Wikipedia. The first article I edited was the Real Estate Trends article under the "Buyer Agency Growth" section. Here is the diff. I added content discussing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the real estate market, emphasizing the increased importance of buyer agencies post-pandemic.
The second article I edited was the Superannuation in Australia article under the "History" section. Here is the diff. I added information about the significant updates to the superannuation system in 2023 and 2024, highlighting the gradual increase in the Superannuation Guarantee (SG) rate to 12% by 2025 to enhance retirement savings for Australian workers.
During the process of editing these Wikipedia articles, I learned the importance of providing reliable and up-to-date information, especially in rapidly evolving fields such as real estate and financial regulations. I also improved my skills in citing credible sources and ensuring that the content added is neutral and encyclopedic.
Through this editing process, I learned the importance of presenting information in a clear, concise, and neutral manner appropriate for an encyclopedia. I gained an understanding of the rigorous standards Wikipedia maintains for content accuracy and the necessity of citing reliable sources.
Overall, my experience with this Wikipedia extra credit assignment was educational and rewarding. It allowed me to contribute information to the public domain while developing my research and writing skills.
I learned how to effectively summarize complex information and present it neutrally and concisely. Additionally, I gained insight into the standards Wikipedia upholds for accuracy and reliability in its content.
I intend to continue editing on Wikipedia as it is a valuable platform for sharing knowledge and contributing to the collective understanding of various topics. The process provides ongoing learning opportunities, keeping me informed and engaged with current developments in my areas of interest.

[edit]Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version available to beta wikis. We will conduct an A/B test at our pilot wikis using the new Metrics Platform. We still welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.
Future work
[edit]Increase constructive activation on mobile
As part of the Growth team 2024/2025 Annual Plan, the Growth team will explore various ways to increase the percentage of newcomers who successfully start editing.
Editing a Wikipedia page requires too much context and patience. It means many trial and error for newcomers to contribute, meaning a steeper learning curve and potential discouraging reverts. To support a new generation of volunteers, we will increase the number and availability of smaller, structured, and more task-specific editing workflows (E.g. Edit Check and Structured Tasks). The Growth team will primarily focus on Structured Tasks, while working closely with the Editing team to ensure our work integrates well with Edit Check.
Stay informed
[edit]Growth team weekly updates are available on wiki (in English) if you want to know more about our day-to-day work. If you want to receive more general updates about technical activity happening across the Wikimedia movement (including Growth work), we encourage you to subscribe to Tech News.

Week 5 / Garnix L
[edit]In the first article, I edited the Institutional investor on Wikipedia by adding information on how institutional investors' unique organizational structures and regulatory frameworks enhance their ability to enforce better corporate governance practices and a citation titled “Institutional Investors and Corporate Governance” to support my explanation. The link is here diff. Through this process, I learned that institutional investors' roles as financial intermediaries not only position them differently from individual block holders but also provide them with distinct advantages in influencing corporate governance through their size and expertise.
In the second article, I edited the Shadow banking system on Wikipedia by adding a sentence highlighting the increased reliance on private equity and venture capital funding for early-stage high-tech companies due to changes in market expectations and provided a relative journal as a citation. The link is here diff. From this editing process, I learned that shadow banking in China is intricately linked to commercial banks and is subject to weaker regulatory oversight compared to traditional banking activities, which underscores the complexity and unique characteristics of the Chinese financial system. - @Garnix L Nice edits. Current with Week 5. FULBERT (talk) 13:20, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
