Welcome, Kchishol. May I call you Kc for short?

I have a question for you about genocide in East Timor, which you compared to Cambodia. Would you please add some detail? Number of people killed, number of people in the country? This will enable the reader to compare percentages. Or you could even calculate these for the reader, and include them in the article. --Ed Poor

I'm afraid I don't know the exact numbers at present. My main knowledge of it comes from the film, Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, where the focus is on the apparent media complicity with this atrocity. I thought it would be enough for me for now to enter the case and let those more knowledgable about it fill in the details. If you want, I can look it up.

Re Khan Noonien Singh: someone once told me I had my "NPOV meter turned up to eleven." I don't feel so alone now. Thanks for that. <g> - Hephaestos 03:39, 6 Oct 2003 (UTC)

You added the name Ken Taylor to the Medal of Honor page but there is no such person listed on the DOD website as having received that award. Who were you refering to? Rmhermen 17:24, Oct 16, 2003 (UTC)

 • Ken Taylor is a Canadian diplomat who sheltered a number of American Iranian Embassy personnel who escaped being captured by revolutionaries during the Iranian Revolution of 1979 by hiding him in the Canadian Embassey. He then cooperated with the CIA to smuggle them out posing as the mastermind behind the operation. Apparently, he was awarded the Medal of Honor as a reaction to that.
I checked -what he received was a Congressional Gold Medal.[1] Only Americans and foreign "Unknown Soldiers" recieve the Medal of Honor. Rmhermen 14:27, Oct 25, 2003 (UTC)

Hey, K. I see you deleted from Pierre Trudeau my observations about double jeopardy and the presumption of guilt in libel cases as "blatantly right-wing" POV"> As a blatantly left-wing person I am puzzled. I'm unaware of any debate over whether double jeopardy or the presumption of guilt are restrictions on civil rights, or of any right-wing agitation against them, but I'm open to argument if you'd care to explain your reasons for thinking that way. Trontonian 22:52, 27 Oct 2003 (UTC)

I have restored the points, but in the second last paragraph, where their (unjustifiably) contentious nature is more apparent. As a socialist I believe in a mixed economy and individual civil rights. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms' glittering words have not removed the most serious impediments to Canadian civil rights -- as I said above, no one considers double jeopardy or the presumption of guilt in libel cases to promote individual Canadian civil rights. To point that out is fair comment. Many do believe the Charter has chiefly benefited corporations, so I included that observation -- now that's not right wing.
At any rate, these observations are now in a section of the article where it is clear that they may be interpreted differently by different people. I also attempted to balance the blatantly right-wing POV about the War Measures Act. In general, I think it's clear that Mr. Trudeau's reputation won't be settled for some time, and including criticisms of Mr. Trudeau is not necessarily POV. I'm sorry if my mention of the sad state of Canadian civil rights offended you, but it was not right-wing and it was not POV. Double jeopardy and the presumption of guilt survive unfettered by Mr. Trudeau's Charter. As do the notwithstanding clause and the Supreme Court decisions about the practice of a legal trade (prostitution) and mandatory retirement. The glowing statement about the CHarter in the last paragraph is clearly right-wing POV and needs to be balanced by some assessment of the actual success of the Charter. That is fair comment. Trontonian 14:58, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)

One thing we can probably agree on. That article really doesn't give much of a picture of Pierre Trudeau or his achievements. It didn't even mention the Foreign Investment Review Board. Nor did it mention the Just Society, an important them in Mr. Trudeau's first term. I've added something about those topics. And I found out that "right-wing spin about the War Measures Act" I mentioned was probably the most reasonable statement about it so I restored it. My left-wing interpretation was still right, of course. Trontonian 13:51, 29 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Hiya.

According to news reports, Robert Stanfield died on Tuesday (i.e. not on the 17th). I didn't spot this myself till I added the entry to Recent deaths only to find that it was already there! It was added by Wik, which may explain why he has reverted a previous attempt to add it to the front page: this is not Recent Deaths.

Recent deaths v. Current events[edit]

I removed your listing of Julius Schwartz at Current events. It should be listed at Recent deaths instead.--Jiang 19:29, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

As you are known as the resident expert on comic books and cartoons, I invite you to contribute to new entries on Superman (1940s cartoons) and Doomsday (supervillain).  :) --Modemac 18:38, 19 Mar 2004 (UTC)

 • I am flattered, but I don't know how I got to be known as this kind of expert and I don't how much more I can contribute to the above articles, but I'll see what I can do.

Hello!

I don't know how to change the title of an article. You started one on Van Horne, the famous historical president of the CPR. The trouble is that it should be William Cornelius Van Horne instead of Cornelius Van Horne. I can see where this error started, on the CPR page. I was going to put in the correct birth date and add a few things, since I have studied Van Horne in the past, but I don't know if I should given the wrong title. Maybe the way to go is to delete the whole thing and start over again, but I am not sure if then the route would be to put it in the votes for deletion page. AlainV 09:26, 2004 Apr 23 (UTC)

I suggest using the Move Page function to move it to William Cornelius Van Horne. This should preserve the content and automagically create a redirect page. --Joe Sewell 15:47, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I saw your remark on Ebenezer Scrooge in the Miser-article. I see you were right, but I altered the definition a bit so he fits in (after all, he is the archetype of a miser) without the comment. Do you agree? Djadek 14:31, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Jolly Roger[edit]

Nice addition - but I'm curious... if the pirates showing the red flag take the ship by force and "without mercy", who is going to be left to spread the word? :)   -- Solipsist 16:16, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I don't know, "without mercy" could include the use of torture and sexual assault of prisoners which they could leave alive for publicity. If you don't approve, edit it to your taste.
No no, its nice - just my over-literal mind kicking in. -- Solipsist 17:58, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I see that you added the text about bodyguard dogs for detection dogs. Can you provide any references or pointers to more information? -- DSurber 00:30, 08 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I'm afraid I would have to look for that book about working dogs again that I read from the library.

Adminship[edit]

Recently I did some analysis of contribution history for Wikipedia, the fruits of which are at Wikipedia:Another list of Wikipedians in order of arrival. As I reviewed the list, I noted that there are about a dozen longtime contributors who have not been made administrators. You are one of them. Accordingly, I would like to nominate you for adminship, with your permission. If you would appreciate such a nomination, please let me know on my talk page. If you do wish to decline, a note so saying would also be appreciated, though not necessary. Kindest regards, The Uninvited Co., Inc. 20:42, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

 1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
 2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. It's important to know, even if you choose to do anything so I don't keep asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk) 14:23, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

collaboration of the week[edit]

Hi- I've nominated American comic book for collaboration of the week. This if it is selected it will bring a many good contributors to work on the article. If you don't mind, please give your vote of support here (near the bottom of the page). Happy editing! ike9898 18:16, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Superhero[edit]

Thanks for your edit to superhero. I'm a little hesitant to call "Gargoyles" a superhero show - at least, not as readily as "Spider-Man" or "Batman." It's been such a long time since I've seen it - do they spend most of the show fighting crime? Are there supervillains? The reference just seems somewhat out of place in context of the rest of the article.

Yes, the characters fight crime as their main activity in Manhattan, especially considering their human companion is a police detective. This includes gangsters like Anthony Dracon, mad scientists like Anton Sevarius, a supervillain team called the Pack who have codenames, costumes and special skills that are further enhanced by bionics, genetic manipulation and power armor. That does not include Demona, a hateful renegade with grand plans of human genocide. Doesn't that sound like a supervillain collection to you?

BTW, you can now get the DVD set to find out for yourself.

Anyway, I also wanted to invite you to Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics. Feel free to join and add to the discussions on the project's Talk pages. :) -leigh (φθόγγος) 09:00, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)

Thank you for your edits on your this page. It is always helpful to have people add more information clarifying things. However, the text you added is almost a paragraph, which would be too much for a disambiguation page. I would suggest that you make a page for your character, Matrix, and then just link to it from the main Matrix page, with a short description. What do you think? Thanks! --Oleg Alexandrov 05:26, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Frankly, I don't think it would be worth it. That Matrix appears in only one episode, as does I believe The Doctor Who Matrix. Mind you, the producers intended it to be a recurring character in a spin-off, but that didn't work out.
In other words, this matrix is too minor to warrent its own article. -- Kchishol1970
I see. I wrote that message because that little character was taking more space on the Matrix page than any other entry in there. I think it is fine if you just keep it there. However, if at some point in the future you get more info about that character, and maybe a picture, then probably a page dedicated to this character might be a good idea. This is just a thought. --Oleg Alexandrov 21:16, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Robin (Batman)[edit]

Hello,

You modified an entry of mine with the information RV blanking. It seems that I accidentally removed all of the content of the page, and that you reverted to an earlier version but also deleted my entry about John Fiorella

"Amateur filmaker John Fiorella released in 2004 a professionnal quality trailer for a fictional movie, Grayson [2]"

Can you confirm that the reason for deletion was purely technical? Reply to Vrykolaka

I don't know if you realized this, but your user page here was the subject of a vandal. I removed his nonsense but given that it had been there a few months, maybe you should use it to tell us a little bit about yourself. =) --Ricky81682 (talk) 08:00, Mar 7, 2005 (UTC)

TAS canon[edit]

Do you have a source that says Yesteryear is officially considered partial canon? Last I heard there was no exceptions, even for Yesteryear, and the only reason elements of it are canonical now is because they were mentioned a couple of Enterprise episodes. If you can cite a source, it might not hurt to do so otherwise someone might revert what you've added. (BTW the Encyclopedia and Chronology, being printed matter, are not considered canonical so they, unfortunately, don't count). Cheers. 23skidoo 17:01, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Actually, those were my sources. Do what you want.--kchishol1970 17:41, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

lots of edits, not an admin[edit]

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 16:59, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

Nice addition. Having been to London once I was very impressed. Just missed it this year, though, and they had an impressive line up. But it's worth a mention or a link here, should be on the musical map more broadly. Bruxism 01:53, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Family.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Family.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. --cohesiontalk 22:28, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for edit summary[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 4% for major edits and 14% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 04:08, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Piggy[edit]

Do you have any source info for Miss Piggy's role being expanded from what was originally intended?

We're trying to keep breakout character tightly referenced, since it evolved from a deletion discussion in which the nominator argued of the predecessor article that it attracted a lot of debatable, unsourced fancruft and would be inherently detrimental to Wikipedia in the long run. So our resolve when that page was started was to demonstrate that such articles can be closely watched and need not be that way.

I'd like to keep it if I could, so a source (it sounds like something that came from an interview with someone involved with the show) would be helpful. Daniel Case 02:21, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please use the edit summary[edit]

I have noted that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Orphaned fair use image (Image:Martian manhunter.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Martian manhunter.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gman124 20:35, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for something to do? WikiProject Furry is improving articles on furry and anthropomorphic topics, and we'd like to have you on board.

Our current goal is to raise Anthrocon, furry convention and furry fandom to good article status and beyond - but if that doesn't take your fancy, there are plenty of other articles to work on. Give it a go and let us know how you're doing!

You received this one-time invitation because of your activity in Category:Furry comic books. GreenReaper 05:41, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:OMAC6.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:OMAC6.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:31, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:Teen Titans 50.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Teen Titans 50.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tales of Suspense42.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tales of Suspense42.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:03, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Captain_America_350.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Captain_America_350.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 18:56, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Characters from Kung Fu Panda[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Characters from Kung Fu Panda, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image copyright problem with Image:Havoc2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Havoc2.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

 • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
 • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
